The Tides of War
117 posts
Your name is Dirk Strider, and you are a god. The God of Fire and Virility, to be specific. The stories told about you paint you as strong and fierce, guiding those who battle under your name and observing the wars of the mortal world as often as you direct the throes of passion and emotion as you freely see fit. You are the embodiment of ecstasy, an otherworldly effigy of tenacity, and your vehemence has forever gone unmatched. (Independent rp blog for Dirk Strider of the Mixed Blessings Au. All interactions are to be in-person. Will be NSFW.)

"He better hope I won't be needed," Dirk scoffed, though there was a playful edginess to his tone that rendered his words less malevolent. "I doubt he needs to be told an angry god is a bad god. I wish the best for the two of you nonetheless, Jake."
"Dirk…" Jake turns to meet eyes with the god of fire. He smiles in return, beaming appreciatively at the assuring grip at his shoulder. “Thank you. I appreciate it greatly. You’re truly a good friend, but I doubt you’ll be needed for breaking anyone on my behalf any time soon."

Dirk removed his arm from the man's neck and gave him a shove, gaze stern as he shot him a glare, before craning his neck to look at Dave. Practically the instant he locked gazes with the blond, the fire in his eyes died to a gentle glow, the harshness of his features softening, the tension in the set of his shoulders lost as he sauntered the few steps toward Dave and began addressing the ropes.
"There was a lot of risk involved," he replied calmly, undoing the knots and watching as the rope fell to the ground, before his gaze flicked back up to his face. "I could get in considerable trouble for talking to you, even now, though I didn't have much choice."
The fire god's expression grew somber as he looked over the boy, the fondness in his eyes replaced with worry, tone low as he continued. "Why did you leave the temple? I understand you don't like feeling caged, Dave, but it's too dangerous to be wandering about out here, especially at night. Alone, of all things." A sigh escaped him as he said this, and a hand lifted to rest on Dave's shoulder.
"I do regret not being able to tell you earlier... appearing to you now was pushing it enough. Not to mention John's reaction if he were to find out," he uttered, "but nonetheless. It's great to finally meet you in person." A subtle smile graced his features and Dirk squeezed the younger man's shoulder. "I hope the wait hasn't been too agonizing for you."
Wrongly Right
When Dirk disappeared, it caused all three men to stand there, dumbfounded. Dave’s gut wrenched just from knowing, but he also felt safe. He felt butterflies welling and distributing through his body. As the man in the middle gasped in sheer terror Dave felt his heart catch. Shit. Shit, shit, shit. This was really him. He was a god. Dave’s god. Taking even closer looks as how his body held the struggling man against him, the younger blond took note of his quick movements, and his feet as well. The way black burned to a smoldering red. Newer, if they had to be described. New marks of war, anger. A new mark of fire.
The two men had enough of seeing what Dirk could do after he’d asked his second question. They both shook their heads and scampered off. Even drunk idiots knew they couldn’t stand their ground against a God. And Dirk had proved himself enough already. The man in the middle continued his squirming and Dave finally piped up from behind them both.
”..You’re really..Well..A god?.. My god, I mean.." His voice fell to a mutter. The other had proved himself. Why didn’t he say so sooner, though? Why hide it for such a long time? Frowning, Dave looked up to Dirk, shifting in the ropes.
"You met me before, though.. Why didn’t you just tell me from the start? Why hide it?" Especially stay away all this time. He knew Gods were busy, yes, but he could of taken Dave with him last time! Dave probably wouldn’t of even felt compelled to  go for a walk had he been told Dirk was at least his God. It would of kept Dave at the temple, waiting.

"Sometimes I truly wonder if he'll ever grow out of it... most of the time I truly doubt it," Dirk sighed in response, moving to place his palms flat against the earth at his sides.
He stared at him for a few moments, and then lifted a heavy hand to clamp down on his shoulder. "Jake, as your friend, it's my duty to be wary of whoever you may be with. Someone has to be." The grin he offered was subtle, a mere twitch of the lip, and he gave Jake's shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "I have no qualm with you having feelings for him. So long as you don't forget to remind him I'll break him if he hurts you."
"Then I’d be sure to keep a watchful eye on him. John can be impetuous and impulsive, as I’m sure you know. It’s a volatile combination, though that’s not to say he should be without fault." Jake bites his lip at Dirk’s words of warning, a little weary on the matter. "I love him." Jake murmurs, and it’s the truth. He does love that demon more than he ever would have thought possible. “You may not feel him trustworthy, but you’re narrowed, honed to one person of interest, and he happened to step on that territory…" Jake glances away. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet."

Dirk was loathsome to admit it, but Jake was right. He'd already been told what was going on, and he was on the line just as much as the fire and wind gods were, at least until all of this would, assumably, get worse. "It's... difficult. And he still has two seasons before he's even of age. I don't know how much longer I can wait, much less how much longer John can. If he's already blown this, there's no telling how bad it could already be..."
The god's glance was uncertain as he looked to his companion, sucking in his bottom lip to chew in thought. "Just be careful with the demon, alright? I don't particularly trust him as it is, I don't know what I'd do if he were to do you wrong..." His words dissolved into irritable utterances under his breath, practically unintelligible, save for a few choice words marked in a sudden rise in tone, only to sink back down as the fire god continued to brood.
"I think it’s safe to say I’m already fairly involved, Dirk." He takes his hands from the other’s back to move around and face him proper. “You’re having a problem with just visiting and not touching, aren’t you?" He quirks a brow. "I can’t say that demonology is mine either. But with my recent escapades well.. It’s becoming a knowledge that I need."

A barely audible, nonsensical grumble was Dirk's only response as his hand lifted to comb fingers through his hair, and a frown crossed his features. "You said you'd try to stay out of this, Jake... and I suppose it isn't really a lack of ideas. Maybe I'm just coping with this wrong," he uttered.
The fire god's shoulders heaved in a shrug at his second prose. "Don't the souls just go to hell? And the human becomes a demon? I can't say demonology is my forte..."
"Relax yourself, Dirk. I’m not going to hurt you." He continues rubbing his shoulder blades softly. He can’t come up with ideas, huh? “Do you need help with that?" Jake was a proverbial idea man after all. A thought crosses his mind and he wonders if he might be able to get some information. “By the way, do you know what happens when a human soul becomes a demon?"

Dirk froze, tensing up for a moment under Jake's touch, but soon forcing himself to relax again, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Both, now that you mention it."
The gesture was comforting in its own right, though the uncertainty bogged down in the pit of his stomach was a more stubborn thing, not to be so easily willed away. "There's just so much coming into play now... I'm running out of ideas."
"The night Dave was created? Or the night he chose you and John as his patronage?" He watches Dirk’s hand wipe over his face and moves to sooth him with a gentle rub to the shoulder blades. “Does it stress you?"

"Thank you."
A lighter sigh escaped Dirk as he glanced at his companion, a certain weariness to his expression that defined his face in a whole new light. "I suppose so... I can't say I expected all of this to unfold this way, that night seventeen years ago," he muttered, eyes sliding shut as a hand lifted to drag down his face slowly, as if wiping away the tiredness from his features.
"Alright. I’ll be sure to be cautious around him and keep him to the minimal dreaming of humans." He glances over at the other curiously. “What’s so funny? Is there something about his embodying flame that is some sort of ironic twist?" Those sort of things did always seem to get the god of fire. A soft spot in his otherwise battle worn heart, Jake would refer to it as.

Though he knew it was only a suggestion, Dirk could feel his mood sink a little at the proposition. Dave enjoyed those dreams so much... "Not until we know more. I don't want to take chances. I'm sorry," the fire god murmured before continuing. "It would be wise to consult with her, yes... when he surpasses his status as a fledgling, he will be the embodiment of literal fire." The boy of literal flame, who sparked a fire in a god's heart... a hollow chuckle rumbled in Dirk's chest and escaped his throat at such a thought. Who would've guessed?
"So no more helping him out with dreams, then?" He asks with a curious glance. “You really ought to ask Maryam for help. You’re going to need it, if you plan to bring Dave up. What would he have control over, if I my ask?"

"They don't see a person when they look at you," Dirk uttered, something resembling... sadness? Remorse? There was an emotion, just hanging on his words, one he wasn't used to feeling, and for a moment, the sheer audacity of the thought that a human could cause it was difficult to comprehend...
But then Dirk looked at him, and met his gaze, and he knew. He knew it wasn't that unbelievable. Dave was... truly, something special.
It took the fire god a moment to wrack his brain for an acceptable response, something appropriate but not too revealing, something that would satiate his need for an answer without making him too curious. "You would know him as you know me, I believe," he answered deliberately, "you would probably remember him. Everyone does." He paused and gave a chuckle at the boy's next statement. "I wouldn't be surprised if he did. Where I go, he usually isn't far off. He's close to me, that one, one of my greatest friends."
As Dirk listened to Dave speak, he felt a warmth in his chest, a nice, fluttering feeling; he felt the temptation just to sweep him up right there, but he had to restrain himself, he just had to. If the time to appear to him, as no less than a god, was any time soon, that wasn't it. It wouldn't be appropriate, or fair. "It's called faith, Dave," he answered, head rolling to the side to meet his gaze, and an almost fond smile graced his features. "You have faith. Is there any real need to question it, or any real need for explaining? You have someone to believe in... that's great."
Another laugh left Dirk at his continuation, one that sounded slightly more forced but natural enough for his tastes, and he ran a tongue over his chapped lower lip. "A flame?" he questioned, without hesitance, a level tone suggesting he'd heard this before, and he definitely had. Fire was the only word accurate enough to describe the emotions that made his eyes glow with happiness, or burn with rage, or dim with the sadness that rarely chose to plague him. It was him.
"Stay unexplained, you mean?" Dave muttered, before a long sigh escaped him. “That’s what the priests tell me sometimes.. I feel like such a goddamn kid.. I’m almost an adult, damn it. They don’t seem to see this, though." He then laid by Dirk, making sure the distance was reasonable, now on his side as he continued to speak.
"Old friend? What old friend? Do I know him now?" Dave then thought for a moment, before smirking just slightly. “Is he going to randomly show up to chat, too?" His laugh was light, but it was how a teenager should laugh. It wasn’t restrained, and Dave didn’t have to try hard to make it his own. It just was. As his eyes continued to look over the person he lay next to, he noticed certain… Features. For one, his feet were awfully dirty. Almost black. And his hands looked rough, from what he’d glanced at. His eyes were most catching, though.
Still, so much fire..
"Hm? Ah.. I’m 17 now.. I’ve been waiting from them since I was born.." He smiled. “I’ve done everything I was told, and everything that I could to be sure I was doing as much as possible for both my Gods. I mean, I’m still waiting, but.." He shrugged, closing his eyes, breathing going gentle as he began to rest his eyes. “They’ll come. I know they will. It’s just a feeling, you know?.. Hard to explain." The boy gave a dry laugh, before red hues flickered open again.
"I think a lot about you is captivating, actually…" He opened his mouth, going to say something, before thinking for only a brief moment. Should he say it? It may make things awkward… However, Dave felt like it was something he could bring up, so… “I really like your eyes. They kind of remind me of something.. Not sure why, though."
