Last year I took English 1010 and to be completely honest I didn’t learn a single thing. We would write tons of essays on random topics that we were assigned to do and had no interest in. We would never talk about them or what we were working on. It was more of I am supposed to give you guys assignments so here is a bunch of random busy work. Oh, and by the way we won’t ever discuss anything about it. Also, it better be exactly how I want it if you want a good grade. Good luck with that. So yeah, I would say English 1010 did not help my writing skills or research literacy unfortunately.
Then in high school, well it was high school, so I am sure that you know that not a whole lot of people take it all that serious. Then I didn’t write another essay or do any English related work for 3 years until taking my first English class in college. I didn’t even go in with high expectations, yet my expectations of what I would learn and do were not even close to being met. But hey sometimes that’s life for you and you just have to learn to roll with the punches and move on.
When I came into this class the first day I was a little nervous. Nervous I would be way behind and not be at the same level that all the other students were in their English and writing skills. I thought that I was going to have to fake it til I made it. Well thankfully I wasn’t the only one in the same boat. A few other students in the class had similar experiences in English 1010. Then you started asking what we learned in English 1010 and I was like “ahhh crap” and then started talking about stuff I had no idea about and hadn't learned. I thought this class was going to be a living hell and I would never understand anything. Well I can honestly say that this class taught me a lot. I was able to learn how to better my writing skills and was able to use them this semester. I know this sounds like I am kissing butt it is the truth.
I had never really done a large research project where we would spend more than two weeks working on it. Until this semester that is, we worked on our topic for the whole semester. To be completely honest when we started the first project I had no idea that the topic we picked was the one we would be working on all semester. I thought it was just for the first little project. Well turns out I was quite very wrong. I guess you could say at this point I am quite sick of my topic and quite ready to be done with it. It was cool to learn about and study, but I need to be done with it.
The topic I have been researching is technology and how it has changed how we live today. Technology is a part of our daily lives, we use it pretty much everywhere we go. Technology has changed how we live. We use it so much and often we probably wouldn’t be able to function without it. Everyone pretty much has a smartphone that they have with them at almost all times. A phone holds a person's life together. They have everything on their phone and don’t go anywhere without it. You now hold more information at your fingertips then you would ever need. “a phone is not for making just calls; we can check emails, order weekly food shopping, take photographs, listen to music, watch hours of videos; the list is endless”
Technology for a college aged student is used not only daily but hourly if not more. I am currently using technology to do my homework right now. Without technology I wouldn’t be able to turn it in unless in class. We rely on technology for so much that we do every single day of our lives. We use it in for our education, work, personal and social life.
The use of technology in the classroom in college is only increasing. It is more common to have a class that uses technology over paper then have a class primarily done on paper. Technology has added new ways to learn and participate in the classroom. “Technologies can enhance learning by requiring interaction and active responses by students Cell phones, tablets, computers, and clickers can be used for students to respond to classroom activities. In this way the entire classroom is participating, and learning can be enhanced, especially compared with standard lecture.” In my experience I have noticed that when professors use technology in the class to teach the students are more engaged rather than just listen to a lecture. It is much easier to follow and stay focused when you are doing something when learning in the classroom.
Students are going to use their phone in class so we might as well make it useful. If they are participating and using their phone for class, they are less likely to use it for other purposes because they need it in order to participate and follow the lesson. Doing this can distract them from their usual in class phone habits. We live in a world where all college students have a phone and 95% of them bring it to all their classes. We know that they will have it with them it is just up to the professor to decide how they want their students to be using their devices.
Technology has changed the way we learn in school. We now use the internet for just about everything school related. I can’t think of the last time that I turned in an assignment that I didn’t use any technology for. We use it for everything we do at school. Before technology students would have to haul around books for each of their classes. If they had to do research, they would have to go to the library and find a book that they could use to try and research whatever it was they needed. I can’t even imagine doing school like this. I am so lucky to have access to anything information I could ever need and have it right at my fingertips and be able to access it instantly.
Some schools are completely paperless now and they aren’t allowed to do anything on paper. This is becoming a more common thing in schools today to help push technology education. It also is better for the environment since we are no longer needing to use paper for every assignment, test, quiz, textbook etc. I know that for me I am a fan of the forward movement in becoming paperless in schools. I love doing my homework on the computer. I much rather carry around a laptop then stacks of books and tons of papers for each of my classes. It sure makes for a much lighter backpack which I am a fan of.
I don’t understand the people who try and fight the use of technology. This is the way the world is moving and being able to know how to use it is going to be crucial in order to get by. Technology is a part of our everyday lives and will be from here on. Technoloy is becoming more common and only getting better and faster than ever. Technology is here to make our lives easier in a sense. Things that used to be done by hand are now able to be done over the internet. We no longer need to put in all this effort to do something that can so easily be done in just a few moments. We can be way more efficient with all the resources available to us.
The younger generation which I believe to be the generation I belong to is pretty tech savvy for the most part. All my friends and most people I know my age own a smart phone and use social media daily if not quite often. We understand that technology is something that we are going to have to use for the rest of our lives and in order to get by you need at least a basic understanding on how to use it. More and more jobs are requiring that you are knowledgeable in the technology field. The better you are at using technology the better off you will be in life. I love technology and look forward to continuing to see the advancements we have ahead. It is growing so fast and we are constantly being amazed on all the new changes that are happening all around us.

sood, Shruti. “How Technology Has Changed the World?” Thrive Global, 7 Feb. 2019, https://thriveglobal.com/stories/how-technology-has-changed-the-world/.
In this article it talks about how technology has changed the human race. We use it so much and often we probably wouldn’t be able to function without it. It talks about how we used to read books, now we just use google for just about anything and everything. Remember the days where phones were made to call people? Now the phone holds a person's life together. They have everything on their phone and don’t go anywhere without it. You now hold more information at your fingertips then you would ever need. “a phone is not for making just calls; we can check emails, order weekly food shopping, take photographs, listen to music, watch hours of videos; the list is endless” You would think that the phone in today's world has it all, nope we are constantly looking for ways to improve it and add more ways to use it.
Technology has changed the way we now communicate with others. We now can send a tweet and the whole world can see it instantly. We can now talk to a friend on the phone over video chat. Social media has opened the doors for so many new ways to communicate. We have technology now that even children can use and often use more than their parents. Give a kid an iPad and trying to get it back from them is near impossible. They could spend hours on those things.

This article discusses the pros and cons to social media. I think that most people can agree that there are both pros and cons to social media. Everyone seems to have an opinion on it and whether it is more beneficial to have it or whether we are better off without it. I personally think that the pros outweigh the cons in this case. There are some amazing things we are able to do with social meida. It has truly opened up the doors for us. But on the other hand, there is a lot of bad things about it and cons.
It is really up to you to decide for yourself what your viewpoint on social media is. Over the past few years it has gotten bigger and bigger and will only get bigger as time goes on. It is an industry that is constantly growing. It has even started to become more popular with older people than it used to.

As a teenager in high school you do a lot of stupid stuff. My Mother new this and would always tell me to be careful what I put out on the internet and social media. Once it is out there you can’t undo it and anyone and everyone can see it. She would talk about how when it comes time for me to get a job my employer is likely to look at my social media before hiring me. I was usually pretty careful about what I would put out there thanks to my Mother.
Growing up in my teenage years I thought it was weird and not right for employers to base their decision of whether to hire you from your social media profile. But reading this article it brought up how the employer typically doesn’t know you and has a very short amount of time to try their best to get a read on you. They have to act fast and decide whether or not you would be a good fit for their company and if hiring you will benefit them.
There are mixed reviews on whether employers should be able to view someone that is applying for a job with them. Some people are fine with it and don’t really see the problem in it. Usually these people are the ones who don’t have anything to hide and are chill on social media. The people who tend to be a bit more out there and wild are the people who don’t want their employers to see their social media profile, at least that is what I have noticed.
Smith, Aaron. "Smartphone ownership–2013 update." Pew Research Center: Washington DC 12 (2013): 2013.
The rise in smartphone ownership is currently at an all-time high. It is now rarer to see someone without a smartphone. I can think of 2 people I know that have a regular phone instead of a smart phone. Now you have little kids walking around with a fancy smartphone in hand. I remember the time when kids didn’t even have phones for the most part. I remember getting my first phone. It was a phone that slid, I thought it was the sickest thing ever. Then I got my first smartphone and it changed my life, I could never go back to not having a smartphone.

Technology is a part of our everyday lives and will be from here on. Technoloy is only getting better and faster than ever. In this article it talks about how technology has changed how we live our life. We have so much information and tools right at our fingertips ready to be used. We have so much we are capable of doing on this device that is so small we can fit it in our pocket.
Technology is here to make our lives easier in a sense. Things that used to be done by hand are now able to be done over the internet. We no longer need to put in all this effort to do something that can so easily be done in just a few moments. We are able to be way more efficient with all the resources available to us.

When people think about the advancement of technology they often think that it will take over all the jobs. Well in this article it says that there will be more jobs than before with the advancement of technology. “The advancement of robotics and artificial intelligence will make 75 million jobs obsolete by the year 2022, according to a new report. Sounds dreadful, but the same report goes on to predict the creation of 133 million new jobs over the same period.”
This brings me hope for the future knowing that not all the jobs will be taken over. There will just be new jobs available. I am curious to see how the jobs change from now until the time I have children of my own.

At the beginning of this class I had quite different views on writing then I now do. In all my years of school I have never felt free to write whatever I want or however I want. Writing an essay meant that I needed to write what the professor wanted me to write or how they want it to be written. This is something that had been beat into my head for years and years that’s what I thought writing was. I never knew what it was like to be able to write what I want to write or how I wanted to write. Doing this was a foreign concept to me. I never would’ve imagined that I would be able to do this in school.
At the start of this class you told us that we could write whatever we wanted to write about. When you first told us this, I was like yeah whatever Fish you know that isn’t true. This is just going to be like any other English class. We are going to write about whatever you tell us to write about and how you want it done. So many teachers say that their class is different, and it always ends up being the same as any other class. They always say it on the first day of the class and it'll last a little while, but then once the drop deadline has passed they begin their wrath.
This class has taught me to write for myself. I had the freedom to write how and what I wanted to write. I never had to worry about my professor telling me I couldn’t write about this or that. Didn’t have to worry about if something was perfect. You encouraged us to explore and try something new. This all sounds like fun and games until you try to do it and realize you are so used to faking it on all your writing that you don’t even know how to write as your own person. It took me some time to really get used to write freely without thinking about whether you would get an A. But once I was able to move past that it was a whole new world. I am a different writer than I was when I started this class. I now write for myself rather than for some professor who feels the need to have complete control of every little thing.
This semester we didn’t even have any due dates for class. We could do our work when we wanted to. We had the freedom to choose when to turn it in without using the scare tactic of giving us a 0 on it or taking points off. Yeah this might have bitten me in the butt a bit at the end of the semester when I realized I was screwed and needed to get to work. But hey now I know that putting it off to the end was a stupid idea. I can’t blame anyone else but myself for my hobby of procrastination.
One goal that I am setting is to not let myself get so behind on my work like I did in this class this semester. I knew I would regret falling behind and not staying caught up but yet still let myself do it. I think I saw that everyone else was also behind and slacking off a bit, so I justified it to myself that is was okay. Why would this be the determining factor of me deciding to slack off? If everyone else decided to fail the class would I justify failing as well? I shouldn’t hold myself to the standards of others and let other people's actions effect mine so much. I am setting the goal to be my own person more. Hold myself to my own standards and not the standards of those around me. I know what I am capable of and should set expectations for myself.
The free writes were not exactly my favorite thing to do at the start of this class. I dreaded doing them because I was so stressed on what to write about. Just having to go straight into something without really giving it any thought was not my thing. I like to be able to think about it a bit, then do a little research and then write. Doing these free writes have helped me just put words down and type whatever I feel. It has also been nice to just write about what is going on in my life, what is on my mind or even get some emotions out.
One thing that was new to me that we did this semester was writing a bunch of different drafts before reaching the final draft. In the past I would just write one final draft and turn it in. There was no rough draft usually unless the teacher required one beforehand for us to turn in. In this class we would write a free write draft, this pretty much just gets you to throw some ideas out and get thinking about your project. I liked this because it got you thinking and fine just throwing together a bunch of thoughts that you might want to write about. Next we would do a rough draft which was about half the word count of what it needed to be at. Then the formal draft and lastly the final draft. This process I just felt like was able to help you pace yourself and allow time to think and revise before just turning it in. It helped me actually get into what I was writing and not just bust through it to get it done.
All in all, I feel like this semester has helped me become a better writer. I now know my writing style. I have been able to learn how to take time for revision when working on a project. I learned how to put ideas out there to use and brainstorm from. I have learned that our mind is a brilliant thing and the possibilities are truly endless. No Growth in The Comfort Zone, No Comfort in The Growth Zone.

Older people I feel like tend to have a lot of opinions on how the younger generation spends their time on in today's world. They often are so against technology and social media and how it is such a big part of our life for the younger generation. All they see is us on our phones or devices all the time and don’t understand what we may be doing. There is so much that can be done on a smartphone or laptop now. You can be reading, working, studying, communicating with friends and family etc. I feel like since it is something they didn’t grow up with they just don’t fully understand or want to accept that this is the way the world is going. We are in a world that is constantly growing, and new innovations are happening all around us. We no longer live in a time were you can just ignore technology and not use it. So many jobs require you to use and be familiar with technology. In school especially college the use of paper is almost nonexistent now. Everything is done online and on the computer. All tests, assignments, quizzes and registration for classes is all done on the internet. We live in a different time today and it’s just something that can be hard for the older generation to understand. Often they just don’t get the point of it and see that it actually makes our lives easier in a lot of ways.
I think as sad as it is a lot of old people don’t want to learn how to use technology because they know they don’t have much longer to live and don’t care to spend their time learning how to use it. A lot of them are also retired and no longer working so don’t need to know how to use it for work. I know that my grandparents often rely on us grandkids or their kids to help them with technology when they need it. We finally got my grandma a iPhone hoping she would use it and for the longest time it was a real struggle trying to teach her how to use it. She would go to take a picture and not realize it was on the camera facing her and would be taking pictures of herself really close to her face. Eventually she started to get the hang of it and now she is an emoji Queen and loves her emojis. I think once they learn how to use it they start to like it but getting past those growing pains of learning and getting familiar with it is difficult for them.
The middle-aged generation has mixed views on technology. You have some that are all for innovation and the forward expansion of technology that is going on all around us today. They have recognized the advantages to having technology from what it used to be. It can help be more efficient, organized and many other pros to it. This group encourages those younger to become familiar with technology and use it in their everyday lives. We also have those who wish that it was how it used to be when their parents were growing up or how it was when they were younger. They think technology is a waste of time and that doing it by hand is better. Typically, these are the people who aren’t very good with technology and just don’t want to spend the time to become more familiar with it and learn how they can use it in their life. They have their basic devices and refuse to expand out.
I can kind of see one reason for them not wanting to move everything to computers, because that means that all records that have been kept on paper for many years are now needing to be transferred into the computer. This would be quite frustrating knowing that all that hard work has been done all over again and they have to transfer it into a system that they are not familiar with. I have had to do that at once and transfer years of records of paper to the computer and had to do it all manually one by one. It took months to do and in all honesty was quite frustrating and caused quite a few headaches. But once it was all done it was nice and was very convenient having all those records at your fingertips and easy to find and access.
From a young age we were using technology. If you hand a little kid a tablet or phone they can work it and use it better than a lot of their parents. It is something that is normal to them. From a young age we are taught how to use technology in school. Some schools are completely paperless now and everything is done on a computer.

What I like about Nike is how they have different styles within their brand. They have all different types of shoes. They have basketball shoes, running shoes, casual shoes, etc. All the shoes are very different and I think that is great because I can always get something new. Even the clothes are like that too. Nike is always making new things and getting new customers to their stores. My favorite thing about Nike is there sportswear but then I can wear their casual clothes too. Nike is there sportswear but then I can wear their casual clothes too. Nike can be kinda expensive but all their products are worth it. They are good quality clothing and shoes that can last for a really long time.

I really enjoy having Apple devices. I have an Apple Watch and an iPhone. I trust Apple over any other company. Apple has trusted warranty and has pretty decent prices. Apple usually has great deals too. I can usually get a discount or a deal in some sort of way. The other companies are fine but I just do not like them. Maybe because I have never tried using another company like the Galaxy phones. I do not like the size of it or how the shape of those kind of phones. Apple has great customer service and are always willing to help in any sort of way possible.

Subway sandwiches do not get the credit they deserve. Subway is a good place to eat but I feel like it does not get much attention anymore. The thing that is so cool about Subway is how you can make your own sandwich. You tell the workers exactly how you want it to be made. You can pick what bread, meat, toppings, and sides. There are so many options and you can receive as many toppings as you want. You tell people how it is made and then you can receive your sandwich. It is a great place to eat and a creative way on how to order.

That’s a sassy sandwich.

You need to do the work to get there. You can not just sit around to become success. In life, if you want something then you need to fight for it. People have big dreams but do not accomplish those dreams because they do not try hard enough. Sometimes it takes longer than what people want it to take. What people need to do is trust the process. Although this is not so easy. You need to be mentally prepared to work every day for something and not expect it to come right then if you put a little effort into it.

This describes my life sometimes. I feel like a bad thing happens and then more and more bad things keep happening. Sometimes challenges in life are so hard to get through because there can be so much pressure. Either pressure from people or pressure from worldly things. The best thing to do in these situations is to take things step by step. Growing older, I have been faced with more challenges. This is a perfect example of how adults feel sometimes. Although it is not the same feeling as a kid not being able to get up from the trap.

“We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.”
http://ifttt.com/missing_link?1575439884 (via ryleimoon)
I totally believe in this quote. A smile can do a lot of good for someone’s day. One simple smile can change a person’s mood around. It does not seem like it would because it can overseen as a too simply of an expression. Although a smile can speaks volumes to people. I believe a smile or saying hi to someone is always a positive thing. People should always try to smile at people because you never know what someone is going through. they may be having a hard challenge in life and a little smile may even boost their spirits up.

Do what is right, not what is easy.
(via motivated-mindset)
I think this can be a serious problem into todays world. People can be selfish and do the things that are easy. Our society is also very lazy sometimes. I think everyone should have a reminder of this quote every so often. People need to remember that doing the right thing is better in the end. Not all things are going to be easy but we need to try. People like to give up when they do not think they can accomplish it. We need to keep striving to be better. I really like this quote because it serves a good message.

I just finished the series of the show Friends. I really enjoyed and thought there were some funny parts to the show. What I mostly enjoyed about the show was how much it reminded me of my friend group. All of us are together most of the week. We get a long so well with each other and like to do fun things. We have a friendship where we can be honest with each other and have serious conversations but also mess around and tease one another on dumb mistakes that we have made. It is a good relationship where I can lean on my friends.

This brought two thoughts to my mind as I read this. I do agree that communication is key in life. There are many situations where it has been a misunderstanding and talking through it usually can resolve things. People feel better usually after talking to someone about a problem. It can help them calm down. I think that can be some of the best advice for people. Also, I remember getting locked out of my house as a teenager and I had to climb through the dog door. Try to avoid getting locked out of your house and avoiding conflict with people.
If you ever get locked out of your house, talk to you lock calmly because

This reminds me of how one of my old roommates would eat their food. None of the food he was normal. Everything looked gross and did not smell appetizing either. One thing he did was but A1 sauce on bread with ham and cheese. I think the A1 sauce was not needed. Maybe if it was a rib sandwich then it could be good, but sliced ham from the grocery store did not seem like a good combination. Luckily that story is not his worst. He would also dip string cheese in a glass of chocolate milk. I thought that was a strong snack choice.

This is funny to me because I can relate to this so much. I do not enjoy shopping as much as my sisters do. I usually find myself sitting in a chair and waiting till they're done. Shopping just takes too long. When my sisters go shopping, they are there for hours. It is too long. They have to look through all the racks for clothes, then they try all the stuff on. After they finally decide the check out line is too long. I can maybe go shopping for a little but not like my sisters. When I go to the mall it is a quick in and out of the store and know exactly what I will be getting.

I enjoy baking very much. My favorite treat to make is either a fruit pie or a pumpkin pie. I enjoy baking because my mom taught me how to do it. She has this special recipe on how to make this tasty crust. It is buttery but also not too crumbly. When I started baking I was not very good at it. I would either burn the desserts or would not cook it longer. It was a learning process. To me now, it is a fun hobby to have. When I go to family parties, I like to bring something homemade rather than store bought.

I hope one day I can travel the world. I want to see new and interesting things that I have not seen before. I want to change people’s lives in other countries that I have never been to. While they change my life for the better as well. I hope I can help the world by making donations people need. I want to meet other cultures and learn things about people. It is a good thing to branch out away from home and get out of our comfort zones. We should strive to take an adventure and learn about our world. There is so much to see when I have only seen very small parts of the world.
