Connor allowed himself to be guided towards the couch, sitting down with a little less of his usual grace, his posture slightly curved as he hung his head. His brain was whirring with logic vs emotions like an old computer system trying to run with a hundred pop-up ads. Every logical process was met with an illogical emotion.
âIâm just struggling to understand. Why would they program this- This isnât useful to my purpose. Iâm supposed to be immune to deviancy so this doesnât make any sense. Maybe it was because Iâve been interacting with deviant androids or...â He looked at Gavin for a moment. You. He then huffed a gentle sigh, glancing away with narrowed eyes.
âI have 23 hours before Cyberlife expects me to go back and I have to go back... Iâm not a complete deviant. Iâve never disobeyed an order I donât even know if I can.â He looked down and then plucked Murty up from the ground, cradling the cat to his chest with both hands. He turned back to Gavin with confused blue eyes.
âWhy arenât you more upset with me? Iâm faulty. Why would you hope for a broken machine?â Connor asked, tilting his head to the side. It was an odd notion to the android that anyone would want him around now that he was showing such obvious signs of deviancy.

Connor RX900 stepped confidently into the Detroit police station, casually scanning every face he passed by as he searched for his new assignment, moving further in. He was specifically looking for a certain individual by the name of Gavin Reed who had made quite the reputation for himself, with multiple disciplinary warnings and a record for inappropriate behaviour towards androids, not to mention an almost blatant disregard for his superiors. RX900 had been sent in to fix this.
âHey, can I help you-â A police officer tried to ask helpfully but Connor walked right past him, his eyes locating and locking on Gavin. He took a moment to take the manâs appearance in, staring coolly at the way he was sat at his desk with his feet resting on top of it. The android could already tell just by his expression that this was going to be an interesting assignment.
âGavin Reed.â The RX900 greeted the man with a neutral expression, sticking out his hand. âMy name is Connor, Iâm the android sent by Cyberlife to assist you on your cases from now on and assist you with your behaviour.â

Connorâs face was tense as he impatiently waited by the door and when it opened he stepped inside, closing it behind him with his foot. He took a second to make sure Gavin was alright after he had listened to him presumedly hurt himself in some way. When he was satisfied he was fine, Connor leaned his head down and pressed his face into Gavinâs shoulder, his hand lightly gripping onto his shirt. It was just a small act of physical contact but everything meant a lot more when it was coming from the android.
âDonât move.â He mumbled before adding as an afterthought âplease. I need... reassurance.â His voice was quite calm but he wasnât. Or at least he hadnât been about 20 seconds ago. He just needed to stop thinking for a moment and this was a good start. He could focus in on Gavinâs heartbeat and the way he gave off subtle heat and the familiarity he now associated with his natural scent. âIâm sorry this isnât... Iâm not supposed to...â He said hesitantly, his hand tightening on Gavinâs shirt. Heâd need to explain himself.... He lifted his head back up to look at his partner.
âCyberlife is planning on wiping my memory and assigning me elsewhere. Apparently Iâm better off higher up.â His tone changed from bitter to something more akin to tired. Emotions were tiring. âBut I donât want that. I know I shouldnât want things. Itâs not- Iâm not programmed to... But youâre right. Youâve been right about me, Iâm not... I want things and I feel things. And theyâre just going to take that away from me.â His mouth pulled into a small guilty frown, his blue eyes looking over Gavinâs face for any sign of anger or disgust. This was a dangerous thing he was admitting to afterall... His model was supposed to be immune to deviancy and yet here he was, wanting to stay with his partner instead of do what he was told. This didnât look good. His led flickered between amber and red. He was overthinking. âI donât know what to do.â

Connor thought about Gavin absently as he arrived at the police station, just thinking about his partner when they were alone was enough to make him smile even if it was faint. It was really nice seeing the good side of the detective... And the way his heart had raced when the android had moved closer was still on his mind... He patiently sat in Fowlerâs office, listening in as his fellow employees talked about him to another android sent by Cyberlife.
âHello Captain Fowl-â He began to say politely but the captain immediately shut his greeting down.
âListen android, thereâs no denying youâre good at what you do here. Youâre the fastest and most efficient worker we have, hell, you even make the other tin cans look lazy in comparison. If it were up to me, Iâd let you stay but I donât think thatâs what Cyberlife intends for ya. Youâre too good for this place.â
âThank you, Captain. If itâs all the same, I think I should stay working here.â Connor kept his face neutral but if the captain thought he was too efficient here then so would Cyberlife... On his way out of the station, one of the officers that had taunted him before roughly shoved his shoulder against his as he walked past.
At Cyberlife he was escorted to a little debriefing room where a human woman and two androids ran a few tests on him. His answers were flawless but when he found out they also wanted him to leave the station because they had a âbetter opportunity for the android elsewhereâ...
âNo... Iâm needed at the station. It would be inefficient to use my model for other work now.â He tried to argue.
âRK900 this isnât your call. I think itâs for the best if we wipe those police station memories from you after all. However Iâll let you first collect all the work youâve done. Iâll expect you back here tomorrow. These two will escort you back outside now.â
Connor stayed cool as he walked out of Cyberlife and ordered a taxi... But he wasnât going to the station. He needed to calm down and he needed his partner to do that. When he reached Gavinâs apartment, he rapped his knuckles a little heavily against the door.

Connorâs led was a constant whirring amber as he carefully listened to Gavin. He had to admit, he hadnât expected him to say... any of that. And especially not to his partnerâs face. If anything, Connor looked a little dumbfounded for half a second before he composed himself again. He reached over and looked as if he were going to pet Purcy but instead gently rested his hand on Gavinâs cheek.
âHm... If you keep this up, I may be inclined to think youâre a good person instead of just an asshole.â He allowed his smirk to melt into a sincere smile, glancing over the otherâs face, distracted by the little scars painted across it. The android wanted to remember this moment, for some reason he felt like it was important.
âIâll see you later, Detective.â He smoothly promised, spinning on his heel and walking out of the room. It was time to prove his worth to both the station and Cyberlife whilst remaining as undeviant as possible... And it was better if Gavin wasnât there because Gavin had just made him feel very unlike a machine. Software instability^^^

Bryan/Neil Interview Recaps
These are just gonna be for Gavin because I think those were the most interesting
Gavinâs a dog person (unless youâre like me and absolutely reject that but thank you Neil â¤ď¸)
His scar likely came from a bar brawl because he canât keep his mouth shut
He likes to drink a bit too much
Heâs a very insecure person
Heâs very accepting of humanity (gender, sexuality, race etc) he just hates androids
Phck!

Connorâs eyebrows tugged together as he carefully looked at Gavin, opening his mouth to say something before changing his mind.
âI-... Thank you, I think.â He took a step towards the door before hesitating and turning back to his partner. âI admit I donât really need to go... Itâs not like I can change anyoneâs mind about myself or androids in general.â He sighed, gesturing vaguely with his hand as he thought about what he wanted to say versus what he should say. It was difficult to fight his programming but he was visibly making an effort.
âI appreciate that you treat me better than everyone else Iâve worked with. I know you donât have to but Iâm glad you do.â He looked down at his tiny cat as Murty pawed at his ankles and he welcomed the distraction. âI know Iâm not supposed to say stuff like this.â

âHmm.â Connor hummed unresponsively, sort of taking in Gavinâs words but also silently sorting through all of his whirring thoughts inside of his synthetic skull. He was thinking of what he should say to Amanda, how he should say it and how convincingly he could lie to her.
âIt would be fine if it was just about whether Iâm helpful to the police but I know itâs not. Its also about whether Iâm well integrated, whether Iâm liked, my ability to solve cases and my risk of...â He didnât continue. Saying the word deviancy aloud made him feel even worse.
âI just need to do and be better.â He murmured, looking at his partner and the contented cat. His fingers twitched. He could feel another wave of emotion trying to crash over him but he ignored it the best he could. âI should probably go now.â

âCuriosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back.â Connor replied swiftly with a small sly smile. âAnd anything would look vicious in comparison to that precious baby of yours.â Connor added sweetly, looking at his partner and Purcy with an almost fondness. His eyes then suddenly fluttered closed and his expression turned neutral. He didnât even notice Murty attacking his hand as he carefully analysed his new instructions. Make a thorough report to Amanda. Your usefulness to the Detroit police is currently under review.
His eyes opened and rose to look at Gavin before towards the door. He looked... unsettled but in a lot of subtle ways; his jaw tensing slightly, his eyes becoming more guarded.
âI need to make a report to Cyberlife... Iâm being reviewed for my work and usefulness...â He announced vaguely, standing up and glancing down at Murty. Maybe he shouldâve been nicer to the people down at the station... They wouldnât have nice things to say about the android if Cyberlife asked them about him, he knew that much... And his own partner didnât exactly like him either...

âI donât know what you mean.â The android lied, looking down at his partner with a singular raised eyebrow before silently stepping past him and towards the door. He slowly opened the door as to not startle the cats and his lips curled into a smile at the two sat patiently waiting in the corridor.
âCome on then.â He murmured, the kitten rushing in to rub against his ankles affectionately. âYes, hello again.â Connor raised one of his feet to carefully walk away from the doorway although he was closer than heâd like to tripping over because of Murty.
âI donât see how theyâre like me.â He sighed, finally perching on the edge of Gavinâs bed and then lightly tapped and smoothed his fingers against the duvet to attract the cats attention. Murty clawed his way up, trying to catch his hand but Connor was always quicker. After a while though he did let Murty pounce on his hand just to see what heâd actually do. The tiny cat curled up around his hand and bit it before pressing his nose against Connorâs fingers.

âGavin, whats keeping you up right now? Other than me talking to you, of course. Why are you still awake?â Connor asked quietly after a moment of watching him, his mouth stretching into a soft frown. He reached over and tapped two fingertips lightly against Gavinâs temple just to make sure he was paying attention.
âYou look and sound exhausted. Not to say that I donât love this new look you have going on right now. And that grumpiness to your tone? Wonderful.â The android smiled to himself, a little of his smile evident in his voice as he turned his head away to look towards the door. He could hear one of the cats scratching at it from the other side at a lazy rhythm.

âYou could injure yourself further by hitting the fire escape and then the cold hard ground.â Connor not so helpfully pointed out with a small sly smile. His led flickered amber as he shifted back a little and debated whether he should tell the truth or not.
âI heard... quite a lot of it. Or at least a lot of what you said. It took me a moment to focus on your fathers voice... You have a few similarities with your speech patterns that I found interesting.âHe admitted truthfully, looking Gavinâs face over carefully for his reaction. Itâs not like Gavin could tell him off for it since his eyes were closed so Connor stole the opportunity to really look at him. âI promise I started off listening in by accident.â

âI suspected my tiny cat would be too interested in the open window and decided to shut them outside the room in case he got any deadly ideas.â Connor answered swiftly, glancing back towards the door before looking back down at his partner. The android found it difficult to understand the thinking behind Gavinâs logic with his unhealthy habits but he knew he couldnât stop him from smoking so he didnât push it. He did however begin to eye the window up, carefully resting his hand on the windowsill and leaning over Gavin as if he werenât there for a second. He measured the height from the ground to his bedroom window and hummed in a tone which could be described as mildly concerned.
âYou should be careful... Thereâs a 5% chance of survival if you fall out of this window. Maybe 12% if you relied on my fast reflexes to stop you from falling to your demise.â

Connor glanced down at Gavin again with a small frown, lightly blowing a trail of smoke away from his face. âAnd smoking those arenât a very good way to start your day either.â The android sighed in return, his face breaking out into a small smirk as he crossed his arms over his chest, shifting his weight slightly to a better position for looking out of the window.
âBesides I think youâre highly experienced in being a pain in the ass, Iâm sure you can handle her for the duration of her visit... and if not, Iâm also sure you could annoy her enough to make her leave.â He said, subtly complimenting the other in a snide sort of way, his blue eyes playful. He was just trying to make his partner feel a little better about his situation. The fact that he had previously lost his temper at Gavin was also constantly pressing on the back of his mind and he was hoping he could somehow consolidate their relationship again.
