JOHN

“ Cuppa tea would be lovely, Sherlock, thank you, ” John muttered to the room at large as he turned another page in the paper, loud enough to ensure his sarcastic tones would carry well into the kitchen. Not that it would make much of a difference, but was it really too much to expect at least an inquiry when the kettle was boiling already anyway?

“ Sleep well, then? ” he continued, eyes traveling over the headlines. “ When I left for bed you seemed a million miles away. Didn’t even notice I’d gone, did you? ”

Sherlock couldn’t help the sigh that escaped him as John broke the room’s silence, though he did ensure it was loud enough that John would hear it in response. He pressed his palms against the kitchen counter and leaned against them, eyes intently fixed on the kettle rather than John.

“I was thinking, John. I needed to think,” he retorted sharply, frustration evident in his voice. A glance over to John prompted  Sherlock to roll his eyes. “Oh- don’t act like you’re not used to this by now.

However, the obvious frustrations hanging in the room didn’t stop Sherlock from silently placing a mug of tea next to John as made his way to the couch.
