How do you get "Sherry/Sherri" from Sherlock/Shelby
It was a nickname for him in one of the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games and I honestly just loved it???? And I made me sad that it didn't catch on as a nickname for Sherlock. I adore Sherry being a nickname for him so I added it here as well as John being the only one allowed to call him that

I haven't thought about Reichenbach beyond that btw. I hate how it's the ONE THING people latch onto like. Can we not enjoy the ride? Can we not focus on the here and the now and not what's GOING to happen?
I only have that thought out because I want him to realize he loves this man and he can't bear to see him leave again

Their first kiss is after Reichenbach btw
Like yeah they've become nicer towards each other up until that point like not completely friends but more than just roommates tolerating each other but as soon as Sherlock comes back, John is breaking down, he's grabbing him and shaking him and wanting so bad to be so fucking angry with him but he can't because he's here now, he can see him, he can FEEL him he's there and he's real and he hugs him and won't let go and when Sherlock tries to speak he grabs his face instead, getting him to shut up before kissing him. It's not great tbh. He's been sobbing so it's wet and forceful because he just kinda grabbed him and forced him into it. He's cursing the man out afterwards but none of what he's saying matches what he's DOING.
It takes a while for them to talk about it. Not because they're avoiding it intentionally just. There's so much heavy shit going on that it's not the most important thing at the moment.

They literally start as roommates that barely tolerate each other and act nice on camera
Viewers ABSOLUTELY NOTICE when things change and they laugh and are more open and friendly towards each other in videos and on stream

Sherlock talked to this cat the whole time he was at the crime scene and it hung around! He talked it through his deductions and methods and it's just chillin. He asks the cat questions but ofc it's not gonna answer besides meowing at him which is why he called it "Unreliable Witness" Takes the cat with him
When he moves in with John obvs the cat comes too and first John is like
Fine but I don't want it in my room/recording office. That doesn't last long. Johns the dad that says he doesn't want the animal but he loves it and Winnie loves him. John is also the one that's like you can't call the cat unreliable witness, it needs a name. So he's actually the one that called him Winnie! Winnie loves everyone tbh, doesn't know a stranger but like most animals ofc has a good read on people so if Winnie doesn't like someone?? You KNOW something is up
Winnie starts coming in while John is streaming. Viewers LOVE Winnie and Winnie loves the attention he gets. Sometimes Sherlock comes in to get Winnie and that's how the viewers realize they live together now. Sherlock is the kind of guy who just casually goes about his day without a care that John is live so when he makes an appearance the chat goes nuts.
It's through John talking to Winnie that Sherlock starts to see the softer side of him. The side that's not defensive and argumentative and some hardened military man. He listens to what he talks to Winnie about and in turn John watches Sherlock and Winnie. He doesn't talk to Winnie as much or like John does, John has full conversations with Winnie. Sherlock will greet him and that's about it or do the "you don't say" "tell me more" when Winnie is especially vocal.
Seeing John love on Winnie, he's the kind of guy to pick up the cat Simba style and make kissy noises or put him in his hoodie with the head popping out just under his chin while playing a game. Sherlock becomes less hostile and starts making the moves to become cordial with John
THIS IS HOW A FUCKING CAT PLAYS MATCHMAKER
EVERYONE SAY THANK YOU TO WINNIE

Honestly I set this in the 2010s because that's when I feel like Streaming and YouTube especially was PEAKING
Like everyone was jumping on this, BIG names were becoming big, everyone was having fun and making their own content, it was grand.
Unfortunately that means style wise they dress painfully 2010s😂 John has more of a "Casual/Urban Military" style thing going, Sherlock has more of I think it's called "Dark Academia" style. John cares a lot about his appearance. Sherlock dresses to be comfortable. Both have those Jeans that are little too long so you roll up the cuffs?? Yeah. Yeah that style.
John might wear cargo pants tbh?? But I think jeans for both of them for sure. John dresses in layers, button ups on top of shirts, again very 2010s military casual aesthetic kind of look with the olive jacket, he has a messenger bag with his name patch from his uniform, he wears boots, ect. He has a modern "gentleman's cut" which is the shorter but not buzzed sides and longer middle, all of it tucks behind the ears. He'd have a decent amount of facial hair I think but he keeps well groomed like never clean shaven but never a full bushy beard.
Sherlock I think is largely the opposite of him? Sherlock likes comfortable clothes like sweaters and sweater vests and cardigans but also in layers. Very loose almost baggy button ups, same thing with the jeans the overly long rolled up cuffs. He'd wear converse or vans or smth tbh. Comfortable flat shoes. He's unkempt as hell. His hair is probably a little on the longer side like a "you should get a haircut soon" kinda thing, he's clean sure but he doesn't style his hair it's just kinda everywhere. Same with the facial hair, he probably looks a little "scruffy" not fully clean shaven but not trying to fill it out like Johns either just very scraggly. Like a wet cat but in a good way?

Sherlock and schooling
So this is also partly based off my experiences. I'm autistic and have dyscalulia. (Dyscalulia is like dyslexia but with numbers. I'm my case I struggle with numbers greater than 3 digits, I'll get them swapped and confused, I can't do "easy" mental math, I have no concept of direction or time and I struggle with patterns and groups. Like here's a handful of blocks, eyeball count how many there are) I did NOT know this until after school, I dropped out because I was so far behind but later got my GED and I'm currently in University!
How this relates to Sherlock. We know Sherlock has a wide net of knowledge in areas like chemistry, botany, ect. I like to imagine that like me, formal schooling was difficult since a lot of proper school is remembering information then reciting it back onto paper during tests, do you remember dates, did you understand the subject matter, things like that.
I imagine Sherlock works significantly better with APPLIED subjects. So like in chemistry it's a very cut and dry, you do this, you get this. This is a set fact, these are set variables. You apply it to something, it's not vague or hypothetical or "Book" studies. I imagine he struggles with "book smart studies" if that makes sense? But he's not stupid by any means. He's smart, we know that but he applies that knowledge DIFFERENTLY on tests he looks dumb, but if he can apply that knowledge to something, it's clear he understands the subject matter!!! It's just the way he shows he understands it isn't on paper.
My Sherlock has gotten a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. He barely barely barely got it though. Lots of retaking courses, lots of retaking tests if able, lots of setbacks and if he weren't able to show in other ways he knew the subject matter and knew what he was doing he wouldn't have passed at all.
Still, he tried to pursue criminology and forensics and understands the subject matter!! But in formal schooling cannot show that in a way that's required and eventually he gave up on any formal degree but continued PERSONAL studies and schooling by himself.
So he's very vocal and very combative when it comes to it because he feels like he needs to PROVE himself all the time that he knows this!! He's not stupid because he doesn't have it on paper that he knows this! He feels the need to constantly do things to prove to others that he knows what he's talking about and demands to be taken seriously. Which is also why he's SO INSISTENT to Lestrade and them that he can help on active cases and is good for more than reopening cold cases

What happened to John
In almost every adaptation Watson is injured in some way to account for the honorable discharge and get him to London in the first place.
My John was stabbed like. A bunch. His whole upper left side, his shoulder area, upper arm is covered in knife wounds, stabs and slashes. Most The scars are barely there anymore but The larger injuries are still pretty obvious and visible. The aim was to hit the subclavian artery or aim higher for his neck but there's no injury above the collar bone. One of the wounds is near the elbow and clean through his forearm which damaged like A TON of tendons and ligaments in there.
There's a surgical scar now running the length of his forearm from surgery in trying to fix the damage done but ofc that can't fix everything so. He's weak on his left side, there's nerve damage to his arm and hand meaning there's no super fine motor skills anymore.
His hand is "tight" in a way like when you close your hand to make a fist, it's difficult for him and the grip strength just isn't what it used to be. He could hold a glass but a mug handle is iffy and he sure as hell can't thread a needle.
Unfortunately his left side is his dominant side. Fortunately however, he's right eye dominant.
That means in terms of shooting weapons or batting at the plate and things like that, he's going to be looking through the scope using his right eye not his left. He shoots right handed as well!

Mrs. Hudson, Mycroft, Moriarty all here, yes
Mrs.Hudson is the only one I've really fleshed out so far tho??
Mrs. Hudson. Julia "Hudson" Howe. Screenname/Username "Hudders" John jokingly calls her "Mrs.Hudson" because her Screenname sounds like "An old granny name" according to him. She's younger than both John and Sherlock and works in computer science! She's Johns video editor and stream mod and overall internet consult. No super hacker or anything like that but she knows computers and Internet guidelines better than anyone and can advise them on what needs to be cut and avoided, what they should look for while on cases, things like that

Sherlock has a cat btw
He found it at a crime scene and tried to talk to it. Like when people have full conversations with their pets??? Like that. In the end he took it home. His name is "Unreliable Witness" because he was NOT at all helpful in saying what it saw or any contribution to the case he was investigating.
John calls it "Winnie" for short. Sherlock has Winnie before meeting John and Winnie quickly becomes the bridge between them warming up to each other

I think I'll do a proper rundown of each character individually later but for rn this is just me getting my ideas down onto paper kinda
So John Wattson(not a typo originally I was wanting his username/Screenname to be a play on Watts) returned from a short army service with nerve damage in his dominant hand so can't return to his line of medical work either decides to indulge in games for a while. Games are a nice distraction from the real world. He plays online games with Stamford! Eventually that leads to him streaming and slowly building up a proper setup since it turns out he's not the only one that enjoys his streaming.
His username/screenname is "RenegadeDoc"
Later later on he decides to actually DO something again and since he has a setup decides fuck it, let's record scripted videos and put his degree to use. So he starts recording videos going over big medical malpractice cases, insane studies and drug trials, or strange cases(think Chubbyemu for this one) he breaks things down in ways for average people to understand. He makes friends, has an editor to help and everything!
The channel itself is called "Content Warning" since almost everything medical especially with cases like this hit SOME kind of sensitive topic even if it's just being generally unsettling. All the videos are titled with it as well. I.e.
"Content Warning: The Surgery Mixup" "Content Warning: The Case of Doctor Death pt.1" so on and so forth. THAT IS HIS BIG FOCUS. Sometimes on streams now instead of games there's a lot of just chatting where he answers questions, elaborates and talks more about recent videos or what he should look into next.
EVENTUALLY
Someone is showing up in his streams, commenting on his videos telling him off, correcting him, overall getting a rise out of him. Joh stops his mod from banning him from the streams since. Nobody has ever done this before and it was funny at first in the way people mess with telemarketers and scammers. But it becomes a regular thing and his streams start becoming One on One arguments and long heated discussions with this person, Username/Screenname "LockeNBee"(It's a play on Lock and Key. So original, I know. I'm sorry) and the chat doesn't seem to mind! They're actively engaged and interested in this person John argues with since it's always in depth discussions that they'd originally be there for anyway.
One time on Stream he decided to have him join a call with him, have him on in real time as a "guest" in a way and they talk properly. Still mostly arguing. Both of them are SO FUCKING STUBBORN but the SAME KIND of stubborn so neither one is backing down.
This continues for a while until Stamford and Julia(Julia is Johns editor and stream mod, Julia "Hudson" Howe. Screenname/Username "Hudders") realize. The shouting has an echo. They live in the SAME BUILDING as each other. Finally they meet in person and the tension is THICK like hate at first sight except they don't REALLY hate each other? Again it's some elaborate pissing contest because they both want to be right and neither one is willing to back down.
LockeNBee is revealed as Shelby Holmes(Sorry but Sherlock is just not feasibly a COMMON NAME anymore) he goes by Sherlock however.(John is allowed to call him "Sherry" later :3c) So Shelby "Sherlock" Holmes. Chemistry major(barely scraped by), left school before completing anything proper for criminology or forensics since he just didn't do well with formal schooling and it's a miracle he has a degree in anything at all. He's far from stupid but his knowledge is better applied than it is by the books and judged by tests and repeating back retained knowledge kind of thing
Johns streams become having Sherlock over so they can discuss and argue topics in person with input from the chat. Off stream they learn more about each other. John learns how he knows so damn much about the cases and things he covers on the main channel, Content Warning. Sherlock also admits to wanting to make a bigger name for himself to "prove" himself to the police in a way so he can get his foot in the door to help on ACTIVE cases instead of being allowed to look at older cold cases.
Sherlock moves from joining him on streams to joining him on the videos, talking about/with him about the cases he covers and provides a criminology and legal perspective while John covers the medical side. Slowly these old medical cases branch out into "True Crime" cases, then it goes from cold cases to ACTIVE INVESTIGATIONS. Johns streams become less games and more following Sherlock around town, live streaming their adventures that are later recapped on the channel. Video names become the case names I.e.
"Content Warning: The Resident Patient" "Content Warning: The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" ect.
It becomes a "Hate you" kind of love, very competitive still but deep down it's not really and slowly they soften up around each other and they move in. It's like enemies to lovers except they weren't REALLY enemies just two very stubborn men who wanted the last word and fought over it haha
Yes they love each other. I can't write a fucking Holmes adaptation and NOT have Johnlock in the end.

So
It's the start of Covid and I thought I'd start a project to keep myself busy. I adore Sherlock Holmes in any and every form.
I think a lot about this Tumblr post I saw here like 80 years ago, BBC Sherlock about how John has a YT channel documenting his time in the army and Sherlock has a channel as well where he does ballet then gets distracted and goes on rambling tangents and John comments on one of his videos one day and they connect over it
(if anyone knows that post, I'll love you forever if you can find it)
AND BECAUSE MY MIND WONT LET IT GO
I've started creating
My own adaption surrounding that idea of Videos/Streaming as the documentation of telling the stories.
I've decided to call it "Content Warning" since I feel like a lot of true crime walks a very fine line of what's allowed to be shown/talked about before being taken down and needs a surplus of content warnings haha
So
Welcome to the blog documenting my Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Content Warning
