This is Shirahoshi, and here’s the full journey. From lines I wasn’t sure about, to colors that didn’t feel right, and finally, to something that clicked after taking space.Every step counts, even the messy ones.

This week I’m drawing mermaids that stayed with me. I had to include Disney’s Ariel, but cuter.
I’ve been trying a new way to blend colors. After years working with solid vectors, soft transitions feel like a whole new world.
Still figuring it out. Does it feel smoother?

I struggled with this piece. The colors didn’t feel right, so I stepped away for a few days. When I came back, something shifted, and that’s when she finally came to life. Sometimes, it's not about the drawing. It’s about the mood you're in when you face it.

I used to wait until everything felt perfect before sharing. Now I’m learning to post even when I’m not 100% sure about the final result. Not every piece needs to be flawless, sometimes, just being honest is enough. And sharing it is part of the process too.

This one is Anger; a deep, hidden emotion. She lives in the shadows, but her presence is sharp and undeniable.

This one is Anger; a deep, hidden emotion. She lives in the shadows, but her presence is sharp and undeniable. I restarted this piece twice until it finally matched the vision I had in mind. It wasn’t easy, but it came out exactly how it needed to.

This is Joy, part of the series for Mermay, where each mermaid is based on an emotion. Blue tones, yellow details, and soft twin tails. She came together naturally, just as I pictured. Swipe to see the steps behind her glow.

Continuing Mermay with a new theme: emotions. This one’s Joy. She turned out exactly how I imagined: light, calm, and quietly glowing. More feelings coming soon.

Another emotion-based mermaid for Mermay, this one’s Melancholy.
Soft blues, still water, and a lot of quiet space. I struggled with the pose at first, but it ended up just where I wanted it. Swipe to see the full process.

It took me time to understand that drawing isn’t just about getting better at lines or color, it’s also about listening. Listening to what your art is quietly asking for, or what it’s trying to tell you back.
Learning to hear that voice hasn’t been easy. But like the hand, the ear for your own expression is a muscle. And the more I train it, the more I draw in a way that feels true, even when it’s not perfect.

This seahorse didn’t ask to be a mermaid, but here we are. Swipe to see how he went from sketch to smug sea creature.

Just a few seconds of me shading this jellyfish mermaid, because who needs more time to overthink? She’s soft, glowy, and mildly unsettling… just like the real thing.

Axolotl but make it mermaid. She's cute, the real animal… questionable. Swipe to see the whole process – from messy lines to full shine. 🎨🖤

Tried to give this seahorse mermaid a serious face, but he turned out… surprisingly chill. Short process video, same overthinking. 🐚

From flat colors to final glow, here’s the jellyfish mermaid in all her weird-cute glory.
The tail gave me a moment, but we survived.
Swipe through the stages and pretend I didn’t stare at her for too long while rendering.

🎥 WIP time – Mermay mood on. Shading this little axolotl-inspired mermaid 🐟✨ She’s cuter than the real thing… but don’t tell the axolotl that.
This week, I’m turning sea creatures into mermaids—stay tuned for more odd ocean hybrids. 🌊🖤

Keep creating, even on the quiet days. Every line you draw is a step closer to the artist you're becoming.
Every day is truly a new chance to move closer to your goal. But don’t pressure yourself, you’re already on the path the moment you begin working toward it
