reblog this if you’re jewish or your blog is a safe space for jewish people
in light of recent events as well as a new rise in creating nazi ocs I think this post is an important one to have on your blog if you stand behind your jewish followers or are jewish yourself.

Woah. Timothy Zahn, are you me?
I often hear the argument that having major characters die is more realistic than having them always come through unscathed. Of course it is. But I personally don’t want my fiction to necessarily be “realistic” – I want my fiction to be entertaining. For me, that means watching engaging characters I care about get into and out of dangerous predicaments, working and thinking together in order to defeat the bad guys. While some authors (and readers) like the tension of wondering who will live and who will die, I prefer the tension of seeing how the heroes are going to think or work their ways out of each difficult or impossible situation they find themselves in. If I want realism and the deaths of people I care about, I can turn on the news.

Sächsisch (Raum Meißen/Dresden): Schbrache is Gunst, is Scheenheid, is Idendidäd. Schbrache gibbd uns ne Seele un blähsd och n Geisd in uns nei. Nurn Troddl denkd, Schbrache sei bloß n Gommunigationsmiddl. Mir gloobn, in ne Zugunft dor Mehrschbrachischkeid, nisch in ne einheidlische Schbrache.
It’s translate-and-reblog-time - the endangeredlangblr way
You may have spotted those chats where a text gets translated in a whole bunch of languages. We will do this now, too. Yay! Except that only regional or minority languages are allowed. Give the name of the variety and translate the text to the best of your knowledge, you don’t have to be a mother speaker and mistakes are also no big deal. Happy translate-and-reblog-time and I will start by throwing in the few endangered languages that I know! :)
English: Language is art, is beauty, is identity. Language is how we see the world and it carries the heritage of the world’s history. When a language dies we lose another perspective on the world that can never be replaced. We may communicate through speech but we think, we live and we thrive through language. Language gives us soul and breathes spirit into us. Only the fool thinks of language as a sheer way of communication. We believe in a future of multilingualism, not language uniformity.
Low Saxon: Spraak is Kunst, is Schöönheid, is Identiteet. Spraak is, woans wi de Welt seet, un se driggt dat Arv vun de Welt eer Geschicht. Wenn een Spraak doodblifft, verleert wi een anner Sicht op de Welt, de nich meer torüchtohalen is. Wi möögt döör Snackeree kummenizeren, man wi dinkt, wi leevt un wi diegt döör Spraak. Spraak gifft us een Seel un puust us een Geest in. Dat is man de Narr alleen, de dinkt, Spraak wees bloot een Manier vun Kummenikatschoon. We glöövt in een Tokumst vun Meersprakigheid, nich vun Spraakeenheid.
Sater Frisian: Sproake is Kunst, is Fluchhaid, is Iedentäid. Sproake is, wo wie ju Waareld ankiekje un et drächt dät Äärwe fon ju Waareldgeschichte. Wan n Sproake uutstärft, ferljoose wie n uure Sicht ap ju Waareld, ju wie nit moor touräächhoalje konnen. Wie muugen uus truch Baale meedeele, oawers wie toanke, wie lieuwje un wie däie truch Sproake. Sproake rakt uus n Seele un hauchje uus n Gäist ien. Et is alleene die Naar, die toankt, dät Sproake bloot n Oard fon Kommuniezierje is. Wie leeuwe in n Toukumst mäd Moorsproakegaid, nit Sproakeenegaid.
Scots: Langage is airt, is brawness, is identity. Langage is hou we see the warld an it cairies the heritage o the warld’s historie. Gin a leid dees we loss anither perspective on the warld that can niver be replaced. We mey communicate throu speech but we think, we live an we thrive throu langage. Langage gies us a saul an braithes speerit intae uur lifes. Onlie the daftie thinks that langage is naething mair than a wey o communication. We trou in a futur o multilingualism, nae langage unifurmitie.

the politics of light and dark are everywhere in our vocabulary…psa to writers: subvert this, reveal whiteness and lightness as sometimes artificial and violent, and darkness as healing, the unknown as natural

Conversation
why writing takes forever
writer: *stops mid-sentence* damn what's the word I want?
writer: *spends 25 minutes on google trying to figure out the right vocab word*
writer: *gets a paragraph done*
writer: *starts another sentence, stops* what is that really specific fact I need?
writer: *spends an hour trying to figure out this obscure thing that probably doesn't actually matter*
writer: Wait what's that thing called again?
writer: *has no idea how to search for what I need*
writer: *ends up digging through blogs and other archived websites for details*
writer: *needs to reference source material for fact checking*
writer: *has to eat and sleep at some point*
writer: should it be "she regards him with disdain" or "she glares at him with disdain" ??? (hint: it doesnt matter but gunna go back and forth over it for an hour)
writer: *gets distracted by the internet in general*
writer: HOW IS THIS ONLY 800 WORDS???????
writer: fuck proofreading
writer: okay fine i'll proofread.
writer: holy shit this is awful.
writer: *reworks entire sections*
writer: *doesn't think I'm good enough as a writer and stops for a few days*
writer: repeat process as needed.

Watch: This awesome dad set up a free hair-school for men so that dads could learn to do their daughters’ hair, too
Also paramount? Remembering what’s important: quality time with his daughter. His tagline, which he often repeats, is, “It’s about the braid; it’s about the bond.” Based on the way he speaks to other fathers, you can tell this isn’t just another low-bar dad.

Heard similar comments last year. Like 'you're only eating vegetables what is wrong with you' or another one 'you need to stop eating so many sweets it's not good for you' although sweets were my comfort food when I had an ED as child. Hope your housemate shuts up soon. <3
One of my housemates always feels the need to comment on what I eat every. single. time. He’s always like ‘what? You’re having oatmeal now?’ Or ‘omg you’re having dinner this early??’ Or ‘OMG we get it your sooo healthy’ when all I’ve done is bring my bowl of food to the table and not said anything. I’ve never told them about my eating disorder but like??? He doesn’t do it to anyone else in the house I wish he would leave me alone
