Tumblr media
starting off this week with a pretty interesting bug fix. and you wanna know why it's interesting? it's because it doesn't actually change anything!
these blocks already had their IDs flattened ages ago. using their new IDs in blocks.json in a resource pack has worked perfectly since the IDs were changed in the first place. vanilla using the old IDs didn't cause any issues at all.
this change solely exists to make looking through the vanilla files slightly more intuitive, which would be a fascinating place to spend development resources even in a hypothetical version* of minecraft that didn't already have vanilla's readability so low down on the priorities list.
*(the joke is that i don't respect java edition enough to count it as real.)
Tumblr media
apparently split screen doesn't count as multiplayer. unrelatedly, i've decided i'm going to eat some rocks out of a sudden bout of frustration with humanity.
Tumblr media
yayy i luv text shadow :3:3:3
Tumblr media
is this a change or are you just like. saying this.
this line is completely by itself in its own section of the changelog. there isn't any other point for it to be elaborating on.
Tumblr media
if custom blocks were not meant to support multiple render methods, then why require pack artists to specify the render method for every object in material instances??? that sounds like some very misleading design at best.
Tumblr media
why are glow berries exempt from being food????????
Tumblr media
this is literally two lines later. the glow berries not being properly listed as food thing is literally already causing problems. why are we doing things like this??????????????????
Tumblr media
absolutely unnecessary.

oh btw i will not be going straight from music fixer to texture fixer. after finishing up the music fixer update, i'll probably be doing slightly better foliage colors since it's going to be a lot smaller. like, probably only going to do bushes and the mers textures. i think i've finally decided that i don't really like the pack that much, so i don't think i'm even gonna do leaf litter. idk. maybe.

i tagged this post as Cornbread's Music Fixer and Y'all It's Winter 'cause i thought this change would have made these two packs needlessly incompatible where they weren't before, but i think i just figured out how to make them work together without the need for a compatibility pack. and it's like, really simple. >_<
like, i could literally just copy the relevant parts from Cornbread's Music Fixer into Y'all It's Winter and have users load Y'all It's Winter above. chat, why am i stupid?
*siggggghhhhhhhhh*
i knew they were going to do this. i knew and yet i stayed in denial anyway. i hoped, that if i could just hope enough, then maybe it wouldn't be so.
client-side biome definitions cannot merge data between packs anymore. you used to be able to change one aspect of a biome while leaving the rest up to the other packs in the stack. but you can't anymore for literally no reason. if you want to change a biome's music, then you physically cannot leave the biome's grass color for another pack to define. the game just does not let you anymore.

wasn't really anything i wanted to comment on last week, but now it's this week, which means there is! such as:
Tumblr media
armor toughness is now shown on tooltips! really obscure mechanic (i actually don't even rememeber what it does off the top of my head), but it's nice that it's now shown like on java edition. (not sure why it also lists the regular armor value as being new. it's not new.)
Tumblr media
i usually don't comment on completely new gameplay features 'cause like- that's what everyone else is already talking about, but it's interesting that we have a dedicated binary encoder now. kinda sucks that it's three bits instead of four or even two, but i understand that the binary stuff comes second to its interactions with the hotbar.
Tumblr media
oh fucking finally. can we also fix the way outlines are clipped or did we already do that?
Tumblr media
yay!!! as long as this doesn't put me inside the floor like on java edition, this is an entirely welcome change!
Tumblr media
didn't realize this wasn't already a thing, but custom items can now be made fireproof the way vanilla netherite items are.
Tumblr media
oh shit, they killed poly meshes?? literally when?

the amount of detail that should go into any given minecraft model isn't super set in stone. it's not like the game has a set limit on the number of cubes each one uses. but like, just as a general guideline, if you're angling the cubes weirdly or overlapping them, that's too much.

it's like.... actually humorous just how obviously current minecraft boats are designed for touch controls. like, the way the other input methods attempt to replicate their control is downright jank in comparison. and probably worse than how boats controlled prior to their 2016 overhaul.

anyway, here's a stupid thing minecraft bedrock edition recently did. well, one that stands out. this isn't about them breaking the ui 'cause they do that all the time. this is about them breaking the sun.
yeah, they broke the sun. vibrant visuals comes with a bloom setting that's set to max by default, so they removed the built in bloom from the sun's texture. even if you have vibrant visuals turned off.
the sun has different textures for when using and not using vibrant visuals, but they're exactly the same. i can picture pretty easily how this probably happened, but that doesn't make it any less stupid.

i think i liked the new music before i actually heard it in game. which i guess isn't actually that uncommon for me. but something about the Chase the Skies music is bothering me in a way i can't quite describe. something about the tone....
maybe it's just that its more in-your-face than Volume Alpha or Watcher. recently watched a playthrough of an SM64 romhack called "The Patchmaker's Workshop", and the Chase the Skies music kinda feels like it'd be more at home there. maybe my issue with it is just that it's in Minecraft.
Cornbread's Music Fixer talk: i wasn't planning on keeping C418's menu tracks each having a weight of 2‚ since the number of Chase the Skies tracks is so similar. but i think i'm going to.

it feels so weird to have new minecraft music that's almost a reasonable length. only one of the new tracks is longer than 4 minutes, and one of them is shorter than 3! gives me hope that maybe one day, in the far, far future, we might even have a composer that actually sounds like they've listened to the minecraft soundtrack before.

damn why does minecraft on pc feel the need to hide the update button in a whole other dimension? what's up with that.
anyway, minecraft ability re-acquired. probably gonna take a few days to start on my resource packs while i just play the game normally-ish. the last few updates have been pretty major in the game's overall vibe and i need to re-acquaint myself. gonna start with Cornbread's Music Fixer since it's currently locking users out of vanilla features.
kinda wanted to post some smbx stuff since i have a few old projects that never really went anywhere presentable (and i've also just been playing a lot of smbx just in general). might still do that. maybe after music fixer though.

1.21.100.24
Added a new camera effect when facing and climbing blocks such as Ladders and Vines to reduce eye strain and improve accessibility
please elaborate. this doesn't tell me much of anything.
hmm. i probably could have merged this and the last few posts. oh well. i think i'd rather keep the 'one log per post' thing consistent anyway.

Released the particle count field for the block destruction particles component out of experimental
oh cool. >:)
i say ">:)" like i have any intention of using this lol. but it is still cool that block breaking particles are getting so customizable, even if only (i assume) server side.

1.21.100.22
Fixed bug where an Enchanted Book with Fire Aspect could be used to light Campfires, Candles, and activate TNT (MCPE-100021)
1. didn't they already do this? 2. :(
Updated "minecraft:grass_appearance" component with "grass_is_shaded" variable if true it adds a shading effect to the grass as if there was a roof.
i assume this refers to the effect used in dark forests. if true, 1. didn't realize this wasn't a thing yet. and 2. why is it called that? it's not called that on java edition.
Fix incorrect destruction particles on blocks that do not have a "minecraft:destruction_particles" component on the base block json definition, it will now fall back to the "minecraft:material_instances" component's definition for that permutation like it used to
still no idea why you didn't just do this in the first place. fuckers.
Reduced the alpha value from 60% to 25% for hurt color overlay on entities to aid in accessibility
literally why????? how does having less visual feedback help anyone????????? i mean, this can be fixed via resource pack. but it would be tedious and absolutely destroy the pack's compatibility.

When loading a chunk that used a removed custom biome, the removed biome is now replaced with the dimension's default biome, which is Ocean in the overworld
didn't they already implement this? isn't this like. the thing that caused the issue where certain biomes would get fucked a few versions ago?

woopsie. i just noticed i haven't been doing these. gonna just do 'em all at once, staring with 1.21.100.20. also i'm gonna start putting the changelog's version number in the post itself instead of hiding it in the url lol.
Leash Knots now immediately disappear when the block supporting them is destroyed (MCPE-163558)
i really hope this comes with some technical change that makes this not require the leash knot to check the block it's on every tick.
not entirely sure how exactly they could go about doing that. maybe by making leads actually tieable to blocks and changing leash knots to blocks? maybe by making entities susceptible to block updates?
okay, let's be real. they're not doing that. this is gonna be unoptimized as fuuuuuuuck.
Leashed mobs can no longer be attached to Walls (MCPE-187041)
Mothered. FUCKERS!!!!!!! this is going to be the worst update of all time.
Emoting players will no longer get stuck in a boat
hi. can i get some elaboration on this? 'cause i have no idea what this could possibly mean.
Fixed flipbook textures not working with variations textures (MCPE-190531)
yayy!!
Removed trailing spaces from the Tears music disc description (MCPE-219554)
why are there so many trailing space issues so often? literally one of the first things in the file is a note telling people to not put trailing spaces.
Fixed a bug which could cause the bed screen to not be removed properly when being disconnected from a server.
damn i hate ore ui. json ui would never have done this to me.
The audio default volumes have been updated.
to What?!?! What Values Are Now Default? Please Tell Me, Multibillion Dollar Company's Offical Changelog.
Audio settings have been refreshed with a brand-new look!
so, the bad news is that audio settings are ore ui now. damn. but, at least the good news is that they've finally been split from the main settings screen. the entire reason the settings screen takes so long to load is that the game has to load the whole thing all at once, so any lightening of this load is a good thing.
or it would have been if they didn't optimize the shit out of the json ui engine last year. even the settings screen loads significantly faster than literally all ore ui screens. damn, this sucks.
The spawn point can now be set in The End through a command
oh coolio! it's probably only for command parity, but it'd be nice of this meant custom dimensions were in the works. wait a minute. since when have they given a shit about command parity?
Certain sprites rendered in the world are now scaled and offset to be in parity with Java, and to better match their collider
Affects Snowballs, Ender Pearls, Ender Eyes, Experience Bottles, Splash Potions, Lingering Potions, and Ice Bombs (Minecraft Education)
now, i'm not an expert, but i'm fairly certain the minecraft education exclusive items aren't in java edition.
Trees now generate more sparsely in Groves
Trees now generate more frequently in Snowy Plains
y'know. just in case you wanted these biomes to be less distinct from each other.
The color of water and underwater fog in Swamps when has been updated to match the intended look of the game (MCPE-63460)
shit. Fucking. DAMN IT.
for anyone who doesn't know (which is everyone, 'cause i never told anyone) swamp water being accidentally made more transparent in an earlier version of the game is one of the first bugs i ever reported. it got incorrectly closed as 'works as intended' despite being so obviously a bug that mojang actually fixed it a few versions later. but i guess they changed their minds!!!!
this 'bug report' actually links back to mine btw. in the 'relates to' section. in case you wanted to look at that.
i think the current version of cornbread's texture fixer actually still has a fix for the transparent water 'cause i never got around to removing it. i probably will if i ever get the chance. not sure if i'm gonna move the feature to conglomeration. i probably will, but i do still want to give the incorrect opacity a chance. if i ever get the chance to play current versions of the game again.
hey wait a minute. i just realized. the bug report id is that of one relating to opacity, but the actual line on the change log only refers to color. if they only changed the color, that might actually be worse than if they made it transparent.
Mega Pines and Mega Spruces now always generate with Podzol beneath every block of their trunk, instead of appearing suspended over air (MCPE-140517)
Increased the size of the Podzol patch generated beneath Mega Pines and Mega Spruces
This change affects both world generation and trees grown by players
One-block-deep water puddles now generate in Swamps and Mangrove Swamps (MCPE-137029)
yayy!! i'm happy again! i mean. this doesn't quite make up for whatever the fuck they're doing to swamp water, but still nice changes.
Biome identifiers must now be namespaced (ex: "minecraft:plains"). Client biomes with a format version lower than 1.21.90 will have their identifier automatically prefixed "minecraft:" when loaded if no namespace is already specified.
yay biomes are finally namespaced!
Allays can no longer be given Leads (MCPE-186435)
killjoys.

i just realized i never made a post about this on this blog, so i guess i'm going to now: due to technical issues, i will not be able to update my resource packs for an indeterminate amount of time. this will be most noticeable with Cornbread's Music Fixer, which will disable the playing of any music from the Chase the Skies drop until i can fix it. sorry and apologies. :(
