Needle Palms (Rhapidophyllum hystrix) at the bottom of a ravine. 

Despite being found only in the southeastern US, this palm is one of the most cold hardy palms there is. It has been known to survive temperatures of -20F! It the only member of its genus and likely was more widespread before glaciers pushed it south.
