Steve has always known he wasn’t 100% straight. He’s known it since he hit puberty and understood why his heart did funny little things when certain people looked at him. He known he wasn’t straight when Tommy used to call him “Stevie” and it reduced him to a flustered mess. He never said anything, though, how could he? He lived in a small town in Indiana, in the 80′s.
Steve’s attraction has never been solely based on one’s gender. His attraction came from the way other’s treated him. Tommy, for being his best friend through thick and thin. Nancy, for being the first person to give him the type of love and attention he craved for so long.
Even Billy H.argorve. Steve would never admit it out loud but yes, he did have a crush on the blond who enjoyed getting under his skin and pushing him around. Something about the man made Steve feel things he’d never felt before. (He won’t admit outloud but he liked it when Billy called him a Pretty Boy)
Later, Steve would come to learn that he identifies as Pansexual, thanks to Robin.
