In all seriousness, today is seriously one of my favorite entries, there's a reason I quote it in my banner hehe. It's really important in terms of establishing and developing some key stuff about Renfield, and about Seward as well of course, and even if you don't see the vision in the ship, I think we all agree it's a fascinating little snapshot of who they are to each other regardless.

I fucking LOVE writing dead characters as ghosts. Because you can keep all the narrative importance of their death while still letting them do stuff and have interactions, and it gives you a ton of new conflicts to play with too! You can do forced proximity with the concept of a ghost being tethered to a person or place, you can do an exploration of grief and change, you have an excuse to make them go through whatever changes and arcs you want because really, who knows how someone would realistically react to their own death?

Ghost aus are honestly probably my favorite fanfic category to write, and it applies so well to Renfield in particular because his death was such an important moment for the original story but having him be stuck in a limbo and invisible to the people around him also works so perfectly with his character. And of course we get all the fun of that whole new layer to his dynamic with Seward... Seriously I will never get sick of Ghost Renfield as a concept I love you Ghost Renfield I will write you forever
