I mean you ditched William, didn't even go to Steuben's funeral, and had sex with women who you didn't care about. You have issues with emotional intimacy.
I most certainly do not!

im writing an 18th century style letter to my girlfriend, do you have any advice ?
Calligraphy. If your penmanship is crisp and elegant any shortcomings in language will be overlooked. Your signature is one of the most vital portions of the letter, practice it well.
Many people practiced the capitalization of nouns, if not all then the ones you wish to emphasize. Any emphasized words that are not nouns may also be capitalized. Longer sentences were popular. If you wish to take it an extra mile, use language that has since fallen out of use, and no words that had not been developed. Here is a list of phrases and terms that you may find helpful. Your vocabulary should be vast, and flattery should not be paltry - speak of your admiration deeply - but not to the point of adulation lest you appear insincere.
If you wish you may enclose a small personal trinket - such as a locket or glove spritzed with your perfume - or a lock of your own hair tied with small ribbon or twine as a symbol of your fondness.
I wish you the best of luck in your courtship, friend.

You say that Peale's work hardly capture's William's likeness. Can you describe his appearance for those of us who'd like a more accurate depiction of the man?
Peale’s portrait should serve as a basic image of my Billy, but I do believe he is well known for being… less than accurate.
Billy has a thin, oval shaped face, framed by the palest, straightest locks I’ve ever seen. He hardly had to powder it. His features are delicate - he looks every bit like a little china doll with his pale, smooth skin - with a thin, just barely upturned nose and high cheekbones. His frame is lithe, almost like a dancer. His eyes are not nearly as deeply set as Peale implied, but instead rather round and slightly upturned, large, always shining - the right is a lighter shade of brown than the left, and both the most winsome tint of cognac. He skin is largely unmarred despite his battles, and any body hair is sparse and thin. All in all his appearance is somewhat childish, just enough fat on his body to soften his edges, and he is only just taller than myself. He is absolutely beautiful. I think even if Peale had painted him perfectly I would find fault, as nothing could possibly compare to his true presence. No artist can capture the glint in his eyes, or the way his lips part when he sleeps, or the flush that washes all the way down to his shoulders when he is being coy.

If you loved North so much why didn't you take him up on the obvious offers to move to New York City with him?
Do not ever insinuate that I do not love William, and do not assume you know what prompted my actions.
Things were complicated. How would it look if I reacquainted myself with him mere months after the death of my wife? I wanted to. I planned to reunite with him one day, and rest assured my dying thought was regret that I had entertained the thought of visiting England over seeing him. To hope, however, that we would reunite in some glorious blaze as a pair of blithe lovers, would have been nothing short of absurd. Life is more than what we saw when we first met in the war. I think he knew that as well, deep down.

Have you ever met any of Mr North’s children?
A few times I was able to meet them, yes, while they were still small. Polly did not much care for me to come around, nor to let William out of her sights for long.

Can you tell us more about Molly?
I would rather not. In fact I would like to cease discussion of the topic immediately.

don't you think she deserves to know?
No, I don’t. It would break her heart to know that the man she devoted her life to was not enamored with her as she thought. She loves me, I only care for her. Place yourselves in her footsteps, which would you rather have: knowledge or peace?

No. I haven’t the temperance for fatherhood, and they would have only served to mock and remind.

Do you keep in contact with her?
Somewhat... She has asked repeatedly to be introduced to everyone, but I think it would be better for everyone if she remained in the dark - I do not wish to hurt her. I fear her suspicions, tho. Two hundred years may well be enough for her to find the link to our lack of passion and a mysterious group of men she must not meet.

So... did your wife know?
I can only assume you are asking if she knew I am a sodomite. She did not, does not, and will not. The entire point of our marriage was to cover any tracks.

you were MARRIED?
Indeed I was, unfortunately so, to a young woman named Molly. Rest assured I did not love her. Women are fine for a night, but for a life? I would much rather have married my Billy.
