i just… i need a moment to wax poetic about Ana Amari

i’m so fucking happy that not only is she 60, but that she also looks 60. She has white hair. She has wrinkles. She has bags under her eyes. Her character model is that of an older woman, but she’s not ever depicted as frail or unable to handle herself. She’s still 100% a badass.

On top of that, she’s a mom and a mom that obviously took an interest in her daughter’s life and wanted the best for her. Not to say that Pharah and Ana have a perfect relationship, but I feel like a lot of the friction between them comes from the fact that Ana wanted the best for her daughter and wanted her to be safe, whereas Pharah wanted to be like her mom (or wanted to be like the Overwatch heroes she saw growing up). Those two goals obviously clashed.

But even their narrative is refreshing because it feels so different than what I’ve seen mother/daughter relationships be. So often in media their focused on finding the daughter a husband and making she’s in a “stable life” (if mom is around at all, but that’s another thing). Their relationship is more focused on Ana just worried about her daughter and the danger Pharah puts herself in. Its not about men at all.

I also really really love that Ana (in her origins story vid) talks about the weight of being in a war, of being a soldier, but still fighting to protect those they care about. Women often don’t get that narrative, if they get to be soldiers at all.

There’s so much about Ana Amari that makes her a refreshing character after all the years of what seems like the same old stories about women over and over again.

They introduced Ana with her standing on top of the archway at the beginning of Temple of Anubis, but according to her stats she has no movement abilities? Are there definitive abilities for her yet?

A few notes about Ana

Her rifle holds 6 bullets

They heal and damage depending on who they hit. No other button to push.

Right-click zooms. Shots cannot crit.

Damage is done over a small frame of time, rather than all at once. 

Same with healing.

Lshift - Sleep dart

12 second cooldown

Interrupts ultimates.

Lasts about 5-6 seconds unless enemy is attacked.

E - Biotic Grenade

Burst of healing followed by 4 seconds of regen for friendlies.

Burst of damage and about 4.5 seconds of heal blocking on enemies

Debuff can be cancelled by Zarya’s shields

Q - Nano Boosts an ally.

Increased speed and damage, reduced damage taken.

Their kills give you credit.

She has no running boost/mobility abilities.

200 HP. Standard for a hero.

No shields/armor by default.

No passive abilities.
