The only downside to talking to small children like they’re normal people and treating them like normal people (as per my mom) is that as they develop into bigger children they are viscerally aware of every single moment in which they are pandered to like stupid little accessories (as per my dad, my teacher, the special ed aide, every adult in my middle school) and you end up getting a lot of phone calls from people reporting your kid for (checks notes) “undermining authority”, “disrupting the classroom environment”, “disobeying elder peers”, and “unionizing the grade eleven gym class with intent to incite a mutiny” (as per me) and you end up with a Grown Adult who will absolutely encourage and enable other people’s children to fuck the sustem

i love my YouTube watch later list - got some time to kill? pick something that caught my eye months or years ago
but occasionally this happens

it evokes a timbre of loss i don't think i've felt anywhere else. something i know for sure i wanted is gone forever, but i can't even remember what it was.

Unfortunately, too many mainstream Jewish institutions frame their involvement with Black communities as, "Look at all the wonderful things Jews did for The Blacks (TM)," which flattens the more complex reality. For instance, Jewish institutions talk a lot about Jewish involvement in the civil rights movement — itself more complicated than the dominant narrative claims — yet say very little about HBCUs as a refuge for Jewish scholars fleeing Nazi Germany.
Not to mention, the utter failure of mainstream Jewish institutions to meaningfully engage with Black Jews specifically and Black communities in general, as shown in the tendency to emphasize elite spokespersons and celebrities on social media over everyday connections with Black people from all walks of life, particularly in the places where Black culture and community actually happen. (For real, barbershops and beauty salons are an untapped resource for Jewish engagement with Black communities.)

Entry level jobs haven't existed since the 2008 crash. 90% of hiring managers won't hire recent graduates. A quarter of job listings are ghost jobs. Companies hire part time so that they don't have to give benefits. Federal minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009. The True Unemployment Rate is 25%. Master's are the new bachelor's. For most the job search takes over a year. 75% of resumes are never. actually seen by the hiring team.
#it took me 9 months to land a full time job as a recent grad w a bachelors and masters from a top 25 US university#everyone said my education was impressive and i interviewed well. i was just a recent grad and they wanted someone w more experience

I guess a more general version of the point is that in the last 50-ish years, everyday language has borrowed more and more of both the terminology and structural features of technical language. This happens for a lot of reasons. But I think it's mostly not a good thing. For one, being abstract and technical is not actually very useful in the messy real world, where concepts are fuzzy and vague and most things of importance are not quantifiable. For another, if natural language borrows too much of the authority of science and the law, it might find that there's not enough left afterwards for science and the law to do what we need them to do.

Mega Flygon has always been that golden goose of the fandom, spurring countless designs and iterations on the idea that while spectacular, I never felt quite hit the mark.
Flygon finds success in its simplicity: just the right amount of color and just the right amount of shape balance. Adding too much paradoxically takes more and more away from what made Flygon such a stand out.
To do the Mega justice, I feel like it needs to be bold and surprising, even derailing the english name "Fly"gon as it brings back a part of itself long forgotten. Something reminiscent of the fact that the pre-evolution Trapinch has the exact same base attack total as its final stage with a whopping 100, and in need of more power it calls back to that stage of its life once more.

Until humanity learns how to overcome the cgi baby uncanny valley, I say no one should be allowed make movies that require cgi babies, lest they be put to death via the giant clapperboard themed guillotine the government is building with YOUR tax dollars. FUCK you
