why does the sentiment of “working out kind of sucks” draw out condescending and/or vitriolic comments from everyone under the sun . sometimes something is boring and painful that doesn’t mean someone’s lazy or a bad person or not trying hard enough or they dont really care about their health etc. obviously a lot of it is fatphobia and ableism but.

specifically the way people get abt disability/chronic illness when it comes to exercise. seeing the rhetoric of “exercise will help fix/treat every problem ever” (especially from other chronically ill people!) pisses me offf. exercise isnt a one size fits all solution to everything actually! and there are very much disorders that are worsened by exercise. for instance post exertional malaise is super common in me/cfs + fibromyalgia + long covid and trying to push urself to exercise more can make u Worse and not better bc the damage is cumulative. and if ppl who experience pem take ur advice and just keep exercising they’re pushing way past what their body can handle and it’s going to hurt them !

and there are different types of pain and of Course exercise is painful for everyone at first but there’s sore-muscles pain and then there’s Something Is Wrong pain and i promise if someone is in something-is-wrong pain every time they work out that is absolutely a sign that they should not be working out. at least not without guidance from a competent doctor. and the Insistence that Exercise Makes U Feel Better and U Just Have To Keep Trying ranges from like. annoying and condescending to genuinely dangerous and harmful advice

“well obviously nobody means disabled people” people only ‘dont mean disabled people’ bc they dont think abt us at all, but also yes they absolutely do, this is specifically sparked by someone talking abt how ppl w chronic illnesses need to exercise and stop complaining. “if u really wanted to u could do it” buzzer noise. define disability. “did u even really try” yes. “you people cant do anything” WHAT DO YOU THINK DISABILITY MEANS!!!!!
