donker nag en dit was laat sy het my wakker gemaak en gese: ek moet hier ver weg gaan ek kan nie meer in vrees lewe nie ek kan nie meer agter die toe deure nie en my huis het in n tronk ontaard

en kom jy saam of laat jy my jou verlaat

en sy se: ek het jou lief en al die vrugte van my bestaan is joune as jy saam sal kom kan ons opnuut begin voor ons alles en mekaar verloor kom ons begin elders van voor

ek het gevra dat sy moet wag wag op n nuwe dag dat ek oor my antwoord kan besin toe die afrika oggend in die ooste breek het ek my antwoord goed geweet en met sorg in my hart lig ek haar toe in

ons almal weet die waarheid maak soms seer

en ek se: ek het jou lief en al die vrugte van my bestaan is joune maar ek kan nie saam weggaan nie sonder my wortels in die grond waarvandaan ek kom kan ek nie vrugte dra nie ek kan nie doen wat jy my vra nie

sy se toe vir my: dan moet jy alleen hier bly

hierdie land het ons liefde verongeluk hierdie land is my moeder en my pa en my beminde

My final assessment piece. It doesn’t have a title yet. Normally I have a title ready, but today nothing came up. I think that I am still processing what I have made and have questions about it. The outcome was exactly what i had in mind. It was a great feeling to see it as I pictured it. I learnt a lot from the working with the material and it gave me new respect for it. In some ways cardboard is fragile and in other ways quite strong. I would like to explore this in different ways and look at the opportunities this work offers. The performative or the imaginative space.  When I think of this work, it is the containment of the memories. The preservation.. Inside this space all is possible but outside is dark and uncertain. It is floating and not quite grounded. It hovers without any anchor. Is that how I will always feel about my sense of place? Or am I infact connected to multiple places? Could I explore this in a more abstract way?

It is confinement, it is modular, it is constricted yet free, it is limited yet open..
