i’ve been thinking a lot about how the NCIS team would handle the Criminal Minds cases
or how the SVU team would handle the NCIS crimes
or how the Criminal Minds agents would be during the law side of SVU cases

Flowers
Detective/law student Sonny Carisi x gf reader
Fluff, angst, comfort
Word count: ~850
(A/N: YAYYY I finally finished this. 🙏 First time writing Sonny x reader, and now I remember how terrified I was to post my very first fic on here LOL! 🩷)
You’ve been dating your law school classmate Sonny for six months now, but, really, how long can this last?
“Sonny?”
“Hmm?”
He was standing at your stove, making dinner—a regular occurrence these days, whenever he wasn’t working nights.
“Sonny.”
He turned to look at you and smiled. “Nice sweatshirt.”
You tugged the sleeves of his well-worn Fordham hoodie over your hands and tried not to smile.
“Sonny, this is serious.”
He froze, spoon suspended above the saucepan.
“Okay, not that serious, just…” you sighed, walking up behind him. “It’s getting a little ridiculous, isn’t it?” You wrapped your arms around him and leaned into his back.
“What is?”
“The fact that I now live in a botanical garden.”
Sonny snorted and glanced around your apartment—at all the bunches of flowers he’d brought you over the past two weeks. (“My father would smack me for even thinking about showing up empty-handed!”)
“But you like flowers!”
“I do like flowers! But we’ve been together almost six months now, and you’re gonna go broke.”
“Oh please,” he scoffed, stirring the sauce once again. “I promise you, I am not worried about bankruptcy by bouquet. Come on! You like flowers, and I like giving ‘em to you, so where’s the harm in that?“
The flowers had actually been a big help in the beginning. Sonny had been so flustered when he asked you out that you weren’t sure if it was a date or just two classmates getting to know each other.
But when he came to pick you up, he was holding a bouquet of flowers in your favorite color. You weren’t a lawyer yet, but you could recognize evidence when you saw it.
You couldn’t stop beaming as you opened the door. “What the hell is this?”
“I don’t know, I guess they’re for the other girl I’m taking out tonight,” he’d shrugged.
(You later learned that his father had brought his mother flowers every time they went out until they got engaged—and that he'd only stopped because they had a wedding to save up for.)
Sonny hummed to himself as he cooked. You, meanwhile, paced behind him.
“Okay, what’s wrong?” He asked, without even turning around. “What’s this really about?”
You sighed. “I don’t know. You shouldn’t be spending all this money on me. I mean, do you know what guys bring their dates these days?” He stared at you blankly. “Bad attitudes! Communicable diseases! Not flowers, and certainly not six months of flowers!”
“Well, last I checked, it was my money and my choice.”
“Sonny….” He was such a sweet, trusting guy….
“What? What's the problem?”
You sigh-groaned. “No, it’s just that… ugh. You know that my track record with relationships is not great. I don’t want you to end up regretting your... botanical investment.” You glanced up sheepishly.
He smiled softly at you. “I don’t regret my botanical investment.”
“Okay, but….” Your voice was beginning to tremble, “you will sooner or later.” Like every other ex-boyfriend of mine.
“Oh, will I? Do you have a crystal ball I don’t know about?”
You usually appreciated his humor, but, Jesus, did you have to spell it out for him? “Ugh, no, I mean… I’m going to disappoint you sooner or later. You’re just okay with that?” You don’t want to get out now? You could feel your face flush with embarrassment.
He set down the spoon. “Hey.” He tilted your chin so you had to look at him. “Last I checked, we’re both human beings—meaning, disappointment is inevitable. And, hate to tell ya, but you’ve already disappointed me.”
Your stomach sank and you looked at him with alarm.
“You think I wasn’t disappointed that time you ignored me in the law library?”
“Oh, come on!” You groaned, lowkey relieved. “That, again? I thought you didn’t know who I was! Our first class together was huge!”
“Ah, but I did know you,” he said, still smiling. “And you knew me. And even though we didn’t talk that day, we’ve made up for it since, huh? That disappointment is way in the past.”
You leaned against him with a sigh.
“Look. My parents have been together forever, right, and if I’ve learned anything from them, it’s that you can’t avoid the hard times, the disappointments. But you stick together. You move through it all, together—that’s what really matters.
Your heart did a little flip. “And you would want to do that with me? Potentially?”
He turned back to the stove. “Well, yeah, but I can’t, I’d go broke.”
You punched him in the shoulder. He laughed and turned back around.
“Work reminds me every day that life is short. So if something feels right, I don’t want to question or worry about it. Why should I hold back on getting you flowers if it’s what I want to do and they make you happy?”
You shook your head in disbelief. “How do you make everything so simple?”
“Some things are simple, honey. I like you. Do you like me?”
You pretended to think about it. “Yeah, you’re all right.” He laughed and you smirked at him.
“Then that’s all that matters. Now, are you going to set the table, or do I have do everything around here?”
