By: Nivedita Bhattacharjee and Anuron Kumar Mitra
May 7, 2021 12:18PM
Raul Gandhi, Indiaâs main opposition leader, warned the Indian public and the world on Friday, April 30, 2021, that if the second sweep of Covid-19 isnât brought under control that it would threaten the lives of many Indians and people across the globe. Gandhi takes proactive precautions to inform Prime Minster Narendra Modi. To prepare for the impact of the second wave of Covid-19, he advices for a nationwide lockdown, mass vaccinations, and to scientifically research the tracking of the virus and how it is mutating. He later explains how India is particularly vulnerable to the impact of the second wave of the virus for its size, genetic diversity, and complexity. Unfortunately, Indiaâs highly infectious version of Covid-19 has spread to other bordering countries, which has resulted in many countries to have restricted movements from India. India has reported 1.5 million new fictions, since the pandemic India has repotted 21.49 million cases and 234,082 deaths. For many the solution to slow down the impact of virus on the Indian population would be easy, issue a nationwide lockdown. However, the Indian government is reluctant to do so because of the possible negative impact it my have on the economy. As Vaccines have be distributed, many worry that they will not be strong enough to defeat the impact of Covid- 19 in the Indian public.
This is the time that we value humanity and selflessness to other that are vulnerable. Covid- 19 makes it clear to all of us that horror that it brings isnât quite over. I hope that the world can come together to help aid those that are suffering with the virus in India. The significance of this article is that even though vaccination are being pushed out to the public world-wide, vulnerable places in the world are still being threatened by wrath of Covid-19. I chose this article to inform myself on the details of what is going on in India. It is important for society to know about this issue to further precautionary actions and to further the need for research and a solution to go back to regular life. How are scientist using the data gained from patients towards a cure?

By; Jennifer Oldham, Frances Stead Sellers, Shayna Jacobs, and Marc Fisher
March 24, 2021 at 7:00am
Terror struck the lives of Boulder, Colorado King Soopers shoppers as Ahmad Ali Aliwi Alissa, a native Syrian, kills 10 shoppers. The shooting was a shock to many of the shoppers and policemen in attendance of the shooting, the store is located in a quit community with low crime rates. Witnesses say that body were slain sin the doorway of the store and throughout the shopping aisles, 10 victims who lost their lives to this act of violence consisted of shopper, shop clerks, managers, and mothers, all ranging form ages 20-65. The police were called from the help of witnesses outside of the store that heard the commotion of the gun violence. As police took control oof the seen, the brought Alissa in custody, as the public viewed him, he was noticeable unclothed wearing nothing but shorts. Later, followed by a visit to the paramedics to tend to a gunshot wound in his upper thigh. Is it said the Alissa will be facing 10 counts for 1st degree murder.
Enough is enough. This is the 10th shooting that has taken place this week nationwide. How many more people have to die to place heavily regulate gun restriction laws to protect the lives of all Americans. I feel as though this burst of violence and disruption are products of quarantine. Many Americans across the nation have been caged in their houses to avoid the sickness of the coronavirus, which can be very erupting to ones mental health and stability. We must come together as a society to protect the lives and health of others no matter the cost. Signing a law that protects the lives of others isnât worth the devastation of their lost lives.

House Set to Pass Bidenâs $1.9T Pandemic Relief Package
By Caitlin Emma and Sarah Ferris
02/26/2021 11:00 AM EST
Updated: 02/26/2021 12:17 PM EST
As President Joe Biden is making remarkable moves his first month in office, he answers that plea of help from many Americans who are suffering from the harsh effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. To supply relief to many across the country, President Biden has high hopes that democrats in the House of Representatives are on a steady path to accept his 1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief package. Whatâs to be included in this package is sending $1,400 stimulus checks, boosting unemployment payment and increase the Child Tax Credit, and supplying billions of dollars to small businesses across the country. Time is of the essence though, it could be another two weeks before the legislative proposal makes it to the desk of congress and the president before the critical decline for unemployment aid March 14, 2021. The House and Senate decision will be split because of the opposing views of raising the minimum wage to $15 between Democrats and Republicans. Republicans observed that raising the minimum wage does not meet the budget for the Congressional Budget Office, causing to retract other expenses, like a $36 billion cut to Medicare. As we move forward the nation is finally moving towards a long awaited exhale from the rigorous effects of virus, all though minimum wage will still be up against debate, our leaders are moving towards progression.
This legislative proposal the will be relieving for many Americans. It s upsetting that the Republican leaders in the Senate are resilient to increase the minimum wage for Americans. As the cost of living increase due to our fluctuating economy, it is vital that wages change to create a comfort and affordable way of like for many Americans. I am excited to see local business thrive again to support my community and community across the nation. It causes a tremendous amount of hope to see that your leader are finally coming up with resolution and gaining control over the financial effects of the virus. How you think the proposal will affect your life?

New Story
The uninformed Seniors of class of 2021 of Renaissance High school are unaware of the awaited event of prom and its likeliness to take place in this school yearâs events, as unconfirmed rumors spread of the possibility of the event, Principal Stroughter confirms that not plan have been made.
In an enclosed Discussion Principal Stroughter shares that might be upsetting to most as the Senior's year is coming to a close faster than most expected. The administration is aware oof the growing number of Covid- 19 cases that is storming the state, and because of the unpredictable waves they are waiting for the approval of the district and state.
âWe really don't have any information on prom as of yet...we are awaiting approval and infectious rates, etc. before we will know what we can do,â says Stroughter.
Are students aware of this information concerning Prom 2021? Most students are feeling the disconnected from the high school experience because of the lack of credible information given to them concerning the virtual school year, which includes activities like prom.
âI haven't heard anything about prom, if they are talking about something, I don't know,â says Aâmya Cole.
Seniors still have hope for a prom that they will always remember. Virtual learning has taken away the social contact that is sometimes needs to fulfill and make a school memorable and eventful with classmates and friends, they hope to feel liberated with the first contact event of the school year, prom even if they have to take matters into their hands!
âYou haven't heard anything about prom like I said awareness even if they are talking about something I don't know,â says Anaya Miles.
Student are discussing planning their own prom, without the help of administration or school funding in hopes to still have a celebratory ending of high school. If all planning goes well, student Ryon Baldwin-Willams, thinks that it will be more pleasing than administration planning the outcome.
" If the seniors plan prom, we will like it better because we know what we want and we could use our own money (senior dues) for things that are functional for the event. I think it'll be fun for us to end he year off together working as a team," says Baldwin- Williams.

A Story Through the Hijab Written by Madison Bryant-Carter December 11, 2020 Walking through the Renaissance hallways and observing the demographics of students, you will see a mosaic of brown faces conversing, rushing to their next classes, trying to beat the bell. If you look closely enough, you will see a beautifully wrapped hijab of a student who is unapologetically Muslim. Being a racial and religious minority in a predominately black and Christian high school, she is fearless in the face of difference. âI cant really be afraid, like, first: my parents are immigrants, Iâm a Bangladeshi, so that makes me a minority.â âOn top of that, Iâm a muslim. And, on top of that, Iâm a female.â Her story is often assumed by others, but Nabila Chowdhary, a sophomore at Renaissance High School, knowledge leader for many that are curious about the Islamic faith, represents herself first. Nabila Chowdhary, Renaissance Highschool âEverybody asks me questions,â she says. âIt's not there faults that theyâll assume that I know everything about the religion or Middle Eastern politics.â To provide others with knowledge, Nabila tries to stay updated with information within her culture and religion. She says this is necessary because of negative media that causes misperceptions and judgment. âItâs like my job to always know things." âWhat [students at Renaissance] do know is what media will tell them or how certain outlets will portray Muslims, and itâs always in a negative light.â As a Muslim, says it is her duty to clarify peoples understanding of the Islamic faith. She does this first with her hijab, one of the first things people notice about Chowdhury. âWhen I explain the purpose of my hijab many people donât know that I wear it for similar reasons like Christianity. People are shocked by how similar the two religions are,â Chowdhury had adjusted well and has personal experience with those of the African American race and other minorities. When she came to Renaissance she didnât think too much would change for her. She says, âFor myself African Americans or other minorities arenât a big deal to me, Iâve been around them since I can remember, it was like I know these people, nothing is going to change, but I guess for other people it wasnât the same, and it was like the first time they were really interacting with somebody with my type of background, which is cool.â But it comes with a cost, due to recent media and stereotypes of the Islamic faith, judgment is placed upon her without one word being spoken. Since the tragedy of 9/11, American society has discriminated against and stereotyped Islamic groups for being dangerous and radical. Many of these stereotypes are based on falsehoods and have been proven wrong time and time again. Stereotypes that have been placed upon people have delayed the everyday life and endangered those apart of the Islamic faith. âMuslims in the United States experience the impact of these stereotypes in myriad forms. Individuals have experienced discrimination in housing and employment, or even harassment and attacks from strangers on the street; mosques and Islamic centers across the country frequently report vandalism.â Never did she hope to find similar aspects of discrimination following her in school. Throughout Chowdhuryâs academic career she has experienced prejudices because of her religion and culture, but she has had some of the worst experiences at renaissance high school by fellow classmates. âAt Renaissance it was kind of like people would be racist or like kind of have an undertone of Islamaphobia. Sometimes it will be sub-conscience, sometimes they donât even know that theyâre doing it. When Iâm walking down the hallway, some people would just like look at me weird.â But sometimes looks arenât far enough, some students that have addressed Chowdhury with verbal acknowledgments of their opinion on her religion.
