Cardan truly doesn't like Taryn. He puts up with her for Jude's sake, but he would just as soon banish her from Elfhame. The rest of the court knows it, but because she is the high queen's sister, no one dares treat her poorly (including Cardan). A lot of the Folk think it's because she killed Locke (and everyone knows she did it), but really it's because Cardan thinks she's incredibly boring. She earns some favor with him, though, because she's a good mother to Leander and Cardan loves his nephew.

Bold of you to assume the entire EPIC musical isn't about Cardan begging Jude on his knees to come home but if I had to choose, I'd say "Suffering". Because of the single, silly line "Penelope why 🥺 / you know I'm too shy 🥺🎀 / and terrified 😭" which screams cardan

Also Odysseus was v cunning in that song which is also a characteristic of Cardan

i had completely forgot about this scene in twk until today, but there is still a lot of discourse questioning cardan’s behavior in book one, so i think it’s worth remembering—especially because the explanation comes from cardan himself

                      Offering  a  nod  to  the  redhead,  Cardan  reaches  into  his  pocket  and  takes  out  a  package  of  cigarettes  and  a  lighter  ;  they're  messily-made,  with  their  frail  paper  torn  and  the  substances  nearly  spilling  over  one  end,  but  regardless,  he  places  one  in  between  his  lips  and  reaches  to  light  it  with  the  lighter  whilst  holding  out  the  package  for  Beverly  to  take,  for  he  knows  she  smokes.  As  a  matter  of  fact,  he  has  witnessed  her  smoking  beneath  the  school  gates,  in  a  time  when  she  had  deemed  herself  invisible  to  the  outside  world  ―  but,  most  definitely  not  to  Cardan.  She  can  never  be  invisible  to  him  when  he  can  sense  her  in  his  close  proximity.

                      ❛  Yeah,  monsters  are  real  in  the  stupid  comics  Richie  reads  and  the  near  comical  horror  movies  he  watches.  But  in  real  life  ?  No  one  has  seen  a  vampire,  or  like,  a  ghost,  or  an  alien.  It's  all  made  up  to  entertain,  ❜  Answers  the  teen,  all  whilst  exhaling  the  white  fume  from  his  lungs  and  out  of  his  lips  ―  lungs  that,  unbeknownst  to  him,  are  far  too  glamoured  to  even  register  within  his  mind  that  they  are  flaring  from  the  substances  of  the  cigarette.  Leaning  back  upon  his  hands,  Cardan's  black  eyes  linger  upon  the  redhead  beside  him,  taking  in  her  stance,  her  smile,  the  vividness  of  her  green  hues  ―  and  such  makes  the  corner  of  his  lips  to  turn  upwards,  to  a  fond  smile.  ❛  Do  you  think  monsters  are  real  ?  ❜

Cardan hates Dain. Probably more than he hates Balekin, because it’s Dain’s fault that Cardan got sent to live with Balekin.

So I really wonder what he would say when he finds out that Dain made Jude drive a dagger through her own hand.

Like I know he’d be livid but what would he say to jude?!?! If Dain were still alive I know Cardan would see murder as a solution (for once). But he’s not, so what would he say? Cause I don’t think he would give Jude an empathetic “im sorry”.
