Shipping Anya and Curly in Mouthwashing is absolutely ludicrous. (Shipping anyone in Mouthwashing is, really, but thats for a different post.) Do you really think that Anya would ever, in a million years, feel comfortable dating her abuser's best friend and enabler? In trying to make "fix it" AUs that depict Curly and Anya as a couple, people are completely casting aside the fact that instead of helping Anya in any kind of way by allowing her to sleep in the med bay, giving her the gun, or putting Jimmy in the cryopod until landing, Curly did nothing for her. Curly is more willing to try and “keep the peace” by speaking to Jimmy than actually take actions to make his crew member safer. Are you implying that you want Anya to be with someone who wouldn't stick up for her safety and wellbeing? This kind of thinking also plays into the idea of heteronormativity, that a woman, by default, must be attached to a man in some way to lead a good life. It implies that simply getting with a man will “fix everything” and make her safer. You, like Jimmy and Curly, are robbing Anya of her autonomy and personhood.
