Falling into place at Joseph’s side, he gave a lazy shrug of his shoulder. His gaze focused on everyone else in the vicinity instead of the man he was speaking to. After all, he didn’t have to work to get Joseph’s attention. It was given as easily as Robert gave his own to the blonde or the flask in his hand. Not that anything more interesting than lemonade was inside, but it was bound to drive Joseph nuts thinking otherwise.
“Hardly call stating the obvious forward. Especially when you already know how I feel.” He took a long sip from the flask before holding it out to Joseph, finally looking over at him as he did.

“It’s not everyday someone can finally get me to go on a vacation. I think that deserves a thank you, if not a kiss.”

“Well, I’ve never been one to turn down kisses from attractive blondes named Joseph.”

parts of her would get scared sometimes to reach out to robert. she had been growing so much, she sometime feared she would see him and suck herself back into that hole of just drinking and complaining all the time. yet seeing him again, those fears melted away. they got carried away sometimes but the two were adults, she could control herself. ❝much better than it has before. i think god was starting to feel sorry for me.❞
mary flagged neil down for her usual glass of wine and then looked back over at robert, smile never leaving her face. ❝how’ve you been? i hardly see you anymore. it’s strange to go so long without your best friend.❞

He nodded, happy to hear that she had been doing well. It felt like he saw the kids more than he saw her, though that had to do with the fact that he still saw Joseph more than he saw her. Without her presence it was easy to chalk it up to the ever changing nature of life, but with her right there, he was acutely aware of the fact that something had been missing since she left. “I think we all were. It’s a good thing you two finally called it quits.”
Drumming his fingers on the rim of his glass, he leaned back in his seat. “I’ve been good. Got back from New York recently. Spent time with Val and her girlfriend.”

Frankly, he could hardly call himself a regular around the bar anymore. Not simply because he had lost his drinking buddy, but because he had put a good deal of work into fixing up his own life well before Mary left town. It wasn’t always smooth, constant progress, but there had been progress and he was happier too. Even healthier looking.
In fact the whisky in front of him hadn’t been touched despite the fact that he had been there a lot longer than her. Of course, before she had interrupted, he had been more focused on the cooking contest on the television. But when she appeared, he perked up and smiled back at her.
“Hey. Long time no see, stranger. How’s life treating you?”
they didn’t get to see each other as often as before. which, while she missed her friend. it did mean that she hadn’t been drinking as much. which was a good thing. she’d been just a little too reliant on alcohol the past… five plus years.
since mary had moved out and away, it was just harder for her to get to jim and kim’s sometimes and see robert. plus, the last few weeks she’d just been busy, well, seeing other people too. well okay, not people, but person. it’d been a while since she’d been on a date as nice as the dates she had been going on.
she slid into the booth where robert was already sitting, ❝hey there,❞ she said with a smile. it had been so long since she felt this genuinely happy. / @cryptxdkxng liked for a starter.

Joseph, as usual, was clean and polished; down to the last strand of hair that fit neatly in his usual style. Truth be told, he was looking forward to this lunch but also was rather anxious about it, given that when he’d been alone with Robert, things had been – on off.
Armed with his signature double chocolate chip cookies in a tupperware tub, his favourite sweater now draped around his shoulders as it so rightfully belonged, he arrived at Robert’s doorstep taking in a deep breath. Decorated with a smile of his own, he mustered up the courage to tap the doorbell and there Robert was; standing there with that smile that could melt butter. He didn’t expect him to be so excited, but there was something so nostalgic about it. His own smile became far less forced, and more genuine.
❝ Oh definitely, I decided to have a light breakfast today in preparation. I have to say, I’m rather starving right now. ❞ He laughed softly, stepping inside to hand Robert the box of freshly baked goods. ❝ I was going to opt for brownies but I decided that cookies would be more your thing. You did used to like them. ❞

While loneliness might have been the reason for him inviting Joseph over, there was no denying that the reason he took the time to look him over--taking the time to memorize the image of him--was something to do with his rather complicated feelings toward the blonde. That and the fact that the guy always looked good.
Robert took the box when he was done giving Joseph the once over, peering inside just to get a feel on how many cookies he was being given. He’d never been a big sucker for sweets. There was just something undeniable about Joseph that even managed to find its way into the food he baked. Taking one out, he took a bite of it before putting it back in the container and following the smell of pasta off to the kitchen. Once inside, he placed the cookies down and started to dish up the food.
“It’s nothing special, I’m afraid to say. Just spaghetti, garlic bread and a little salad since you can’t have pasta without salad.” He spoke in a serious tone before giving a shake of his head as he smiled about a joke that only made sense to him. “At least, that’s what my ma used to say. Made it seem like it was in the constitution somewhere.”

It was strange for Robert to remember all the things that lurked in his kitchen. There were pots and pans that he never used, a nice set of dishes that only were used for holidays years ago. Yet, it was those plates that were on the table and those pots and pans currently holding what turned into a rather involved lunch.
Who knew making spaghetti was such work?
Still, everything about his little lunch date with Joseph had required a certain amount of work from him. His house was clean, he smelled like the soap he used in the shower he had recently taken. Even Betsy was freshly washed--though considerably less happy about it. Running his hand over his mouth, he paused when he heard the door bell.
Turning the food on low, he rushed over to the door where Betsy was already barking excitedly and opened it up with a smile. “Hey there. Ready for lunch?”

Send me a number and I’ll tell you how my muse behaves to :
1. Their Parents
Now that he’s an adult, Robert acts like his father is an equal in a lot of ways. They’re both old men by their own admission and he’s learned to let some of his own issues with his father fade, so they get along in the typical father/son friendship manner that tv shows off.
11. A child
Robert treats children the same way he does most adults, but in a more over the top manner. He’s more teasing in his statements and makes his lies all the more outrageous so they’ll either think he’s a miracle or call him out on his lies since he does it to have fun and feels kids deserve to be treated with a certain level of genuineness.

It’s Sinday! Send 💋 to straight up kiss my muse!
Even taken aback like he was, Robert’s first instinct was to kiss back. After all, it wasn’t the first time he had found his mouth against the other man’s--though he was considerably more sober than the last time around.
