the thing that really rubs salt in the wound here is that the voting isn't even real. like, if those blank NPCs really are the committee, caine should be able to rig them to do anything, the same way he makes them fawn over him during the actual ceremony. caine getting no votes is just a material manifestation of him feeling lonely and rejected. ties a nice little crooked bow on the episode's themes of choosing to love yourself
