Long ago, miasma swallowed the world. Its very touch was fatal, and it claimed many lives. But we have since discovered a way to hold it at bay. Crystals protect us from miasma. Smaller crystals now guard the villages of the world, while greater ones guard the cities. We all live within the embrace of the crystals' blessing. The power of the crystals is not limitless, however; it gradually diminishes over time. We must rekindle the crystals' radiance each year by purifying them with myrrh. In turn, they protect us from miasma for another year. But myrrh cannot be found just anywhere.We must seek it in the dank depths of dungeons, across forbidding mountains, even beyond the sea. The task falls to groups of young men and women sent off each year by every town, the world over. It is their duty to collect myrrh and bring it home. They are known as crystal caravans.This is the tale of several such caravans and their adventures.

Attention, aspiring caravanners!
While this weekend is our newly designated date of departure, all members are encouraged to set out at their own pace. If you would like to write a personal journal entry or two (as several have) for practice, or a starter for your caravan, please do! Alternatively, if you will be busy throughout the weekend, don’t worry— while we do encourage activity out of consideration for your caravan mates, this is a hobby, and should never become a source of stress.

More just needling, and I apologize for that. Will Alfitaria drown in Miasma this year? I'm also curious for the sake of possibly meeting the Alfitarian caravan on the road.
Apologies for answering this publicly, but you've brought up a wonderful point. All caravans without roleplayers are to consist of NPCs, so to speak. If there are players who would like to occupy Alfitaria's caravan, or that of any other unclaimed town (even belatedly join an existing caravan, for that matter), they will be accommodated-- but for now, simply assume them a moderately sized band of city Lilties.

Attention, aspiring caravanners!
Multiple accounts are allowed, but be sure not to take on any more than you can handle! If you do need to drop out mid-year, death or the contraction of miasma poisoning (forcing your character to either be left in the closest town to be cared for until they can be sent home, or confined to the caravan until such can be arranged) are suggested explanations, and in the case of a hiatus, a nonfatal injury can leave a caravanner bed-ridden for weeks.
As we hope to set out within the week, it’s advised that you confer with your fellow caravanners on the history of both your characters, and caravan. Do they know each other? Who were the caravan’s previous members? Did those not coming on this year’s trip retire, or fall prey to monsters or miasma during the last? Senior caravanners will be elected Caravan Leader by default, but the prior or planned designation of the member responsible for keeping the village’s Crystal Chronicle is also something to consider.
Schedules will be sent to each Caravan Leader by Alfitarian officials via Mooglemail, so as to assure all towns are guaranteed untapped myrrh trees. Stealing myrrh on another caravan’s schedule is a capital offense, potentially punishable by death. If there’s a certain destination you hope to hit this year, please notify the group, and we’ll do our very best to incorporate it. As with everything else, it’s first come, first serve!

I'd love to join in, but what skills do I need? I'm not a spectacular artist, and certainly not a fast one. I can write well, and I am not new to roleplay...
You need nothing but a vivid imagination and the will to adventure. Much like beginning a new game, you choose a tribe and appearance during application, so there's no need to be particularly talented in the artistic department. If you want to post pictures of your character, there's sure to be fanart of them (though, please do source it), and being an experienced roleplayer, you'll fit right in-- though those new to it are welcome, too. All in all, a moderate knowledge of the game, at the very least, is the only true requirement.
