And also everyone involved is like 19 so they don’t know how a complex, multi-year creative project works.

It is love that saves

Rewatched the 'Dinner with the Devil' Caduceus-Trent massacre again and god. it hits harder every time you watch it. It's such a perfect scene. The way Caduceus is the only one to not be outwardly hostile throughout the course of the dinner, helping Eodwulf with his seat and joking with him about the vegetarian food, watching as his friends' insults slide off Trent's back. I imagine him coming into the dinner with a genuinely open mind, ready to finally understand the mind behind his friend's torture and hoping to help him heal, and then getting gradually more disappointed as the dinner goes on. Trent's entire philosophy is built around going to unspeakable measures for the greater good of himself and his proteges, so any insult from Caleb/ Bren or associates will automatically compute to him as jealous rage from people too weak to reap the rewards of his 'program'. But Caduceus' speech, in a very short amount of words, manages not only to imply that he has no real impact on the world, but also that he is worth pity. Ikithon can't brush it off as a meaningless insult because it's not an insult. It's genuine. Someone is giving him advice. Someone considers him stupid enough to not understand the fundamentals of how the world works, and that someone wishes him well. I know this bitch was SEETHING in his fuckass lab

Been expecting for a while that SOMEDAY we’d have less of the original cast. Doing it like this? Best possible scenario. Let them go try new things! Bring in more people! Try different stories! (EXU:Calamity is one of my FAVORITE things CR has EVER DONE.)

And maybe Matt will SLEEP. For ONCE.

Okay, so I was hesitant at first—like I think a lot of us probably were—to hear that Matt isn’t dm’ing C4 and we likely won’t have the full main cast.

But the longer I consider the FULL implications of the announcement outside of just C4, I’m really, really excited what Critical Role is doing for the ttrpg and non-traditional storytelling community! We got Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford on stage repping Darrington Press, which has struck gold with Daggerheart and been investing a ton in other table top games! We got announcements that CR will collab with Legends of Avantris and Dungeons and Daddies, two of the big names out there in ttrpg actual plays! Even outside of Brennan joining CR, Dropout collabs don’t show any sign of slowing down soon (see Taliesin in the Dirty Laundry season 4 trailer), and we even had a Game Changer joke in the script!

And let’s be honest, is it all that insane that some of the main cast will be stepping back to let in new players? Travis is CEO of the whole gosh darn company. Marisha has her hands in every project they make. Ashley and Taliesin make a regular podcast now, on top of Ashley being the president of CRF, and the rest of the cast are simultaneously parents, writers on CR’s animated shows, and still HUGE names in the VO industry! They are busy folks doing a ton of cool stuff!

Long story short, CR is changing, and that’s gonna take a bit to get used to. But the world of actual plays and internet storytelling is thriving and more connected than ever before. I can’t wait to see what comes next :)
