I was reading something that mentioned that Daisy's body was never found after The Unknowing, and I finally connected the dots on Basira?
No wonder she's so stuck on this "Jon's and Martin's bodies were never found" thing. It seemed a little unusual for her, given how practical she is in everything else, but the last time someone disappeared, they weren't dead.
It's probably nothing revolutionary, but it does reaffirm for me just how interesting Basira is. She manages to hold this side character roll, with just the right level of objective view to crack her own angle on everything. She must have been an amazingly perceptive officer, even before getting Sectioned.

OK, I'm trying to make a list of all the weird/unsettling/morbid stuff in The Priory School
Obviously, there's a murder and themes of child abuse which is dark enough but also...
The recurring theme of deep water and drowning and being submerged in water. There's been things like that in other episodes but there was so much of that in this story. Whether Heidegger literally drowned or not (we don't know exactly what killed him) his body was deliberately submerged under the water and sucked further under by the pipe (and putting him in the water is a Sherlock & Co thing, Heidegger's body wasn't in water when he was found in the canon). The 'drowned' village. Jim talking about a pool that's like a 'dark black lake'. Repeated underwater sounds and then the strange cut off underwater scream at least twice.
The audio glitch after Moriarty's name is mentioned, and also audio recording that seems to come from nowhere and have no explanation.
Repeated flies and moths mentions or sounds. Not only are the flies implying blood, death, decay, corruption, it makes me think about the Lord of the Flies, Beelzebub, who is often linked to Satan or the Devil. Also that the moths have been drawn to the light but have got trapped because of that, and spiders often make webs around lights in order to catch more insects that are lured in by those lights.
Repeated references to hounds and beasts (the deerhound, the talk about hounds stalking the moorlands, and remember John's (and Jim's) shoes brand name). It sounds like a Hound of the Baskervilles nod definitely but it all sounds very sinister and 'devilish' too.
Repeated references to blackness and darkness - not just the pool description and "dark waters" but also Reuben says about "the darkness. And the demons that live within it." Sherlock described the school as "It shines like a splinter of crystal in the darkened brood of its surroundings" (which is a beautiful description, but also kind of chilling). Multiple characters say about Saltire going off in the dark or the pitch darkness.
Also a lot of this seems to very definitely tying back to earlier episodes and A Scandal in Bohemia especially springs to my mind, where Sherlock talked about the prisms, about the "dense web", about the "depths", then his whole speech about plunging and sinking into the deep water.
Also Jim Wilder. He's from the canon, though he's called James not Jim there, so he's not a pure invention of the podcast but I feel like they have set it up so he's seems very suggestive of Moriarty. And Moriarty using the name 'Wilder' might even make a lot of sense, because in The Valley of Fear Holmes talks about Jonathan Wild, an earlier 'master criminal' who he's saying basically Moriarty is very much like. So Moriarty using the name Wilder could be saying he's more than Wild, he's even worse than Wild. This Jim can't actually be Moriarty though if he's Duke's son and Moriarty was in the same year at school as Duke but I think what they've done with him, it's all very suggestive and definitely meant to make us think about Moriarty (and I do wonder if Moriarty's supposed to have been involved by manipulating Jim Wilder maybe).
Also just... never actually hearing from Saltire, I find that unsettling too cos we don't actually know he's OK, not really. Duke says all this stuff about him but Duke is so full of shit and doesn't actually seem to genuinely care about him. So, is that boy really all right? Possibly not.
I did really like the story overall, the tone of it just felt very different to most of the other stories and there are definitely some odd elements in it which may be just plot holes or continuity errors or something but then again, maybe they're not.
(LMAO at John's "OH THE FUCKING SHOOOEESS!!" though. I knew they were going to do something else to ruin his shoes)

The Adventure of the Mayfair Developers
He imagines the quippy cold open, how he could spin it.  He could put in one of those record scratch sound effects. Or just make the noise with his mouth. Yup. That’s me. John Hamish Podcast Watson. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.  That’d be funny. The listeners would love it, for sure.  But Sherlock had solved this one in less than 48 hours—a mystery that had seemed knotted enough to center an episode around, instead unraveled in a day and a half by the same deft hands currently stimming against his scalp. Yes, this was, indeed, a fucking disaster.

I can’t imagine Elias had any good ideas for getting Jon marked by The Slaughter. Like, Melanie appearing was total coincidence, and if that hadn’t happened, then what?
I can’t stop imagining Elias sitting in front of his computer, head in hand, SERIOUSLY considering “should I enlist Jon in the army…?” just super stressed out, trying to weigh the pros and cons of sending his pathetic little archivist straight out onto the front lines.
Coming into Jon’s office one day and just being like “Jonathan, hey, so like, I need you to go to war for me real quick, it’ll just be a sec” ???
It would be SUCH a hard Fear to intentionally mark Jon with, thank god the lesbian made it so much easier.
