not to be a bitch but we gotta stop giving disney attention, end stop. they think they can do LESS than bare minimum (not even remaining faithful to original material) and make money and they CAN. they’re selling nostalgia and infusing it w right wing propaganda and you’re still giving them time and money

People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.
She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.
Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.

I wanna make a connection for anyone who hasn't made it yet that President John F. Kennedy had a sister named Rosemary. She showed issues with speech and motor skills from a young age. Because of this, JFK's father had her lobotomized against her will, leaving her incapacitated for the rest of her life. JFK also had a brother named Robert F Kennedy (Sr.). RFK Sr. was this man's father.

THAT is what we are dealing with concerning the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services. More specifically the legacy of the Kennedy family and their history with disabilities and autism even in their own family.
'There weren't this many autistic people when I was young'. Yeah, there weren't in public.
Autism, disability, deformity, etc. until the 1960's often meant 'automatic institutionalization'.
Autistic people only seem more prevalent now because we have had laws in place keeping autistic people safe from neglect, from being kept in harmful/abusive institutions, from being lobotomized, from being dehumanized and degraded.
Point blank. Period.
Autism is a genetic neurodevelopmental disorder. It's the way someone's brain works. And it isn't something that can be or needs to be fixed. And because it cannot be 'cured', the only way RFK Jr. can 'end autism' in America is through disappearing/incarceration/sterilization/murder.
Wake up.

“you couldn’t make this movie today” not because of cancel culture but because big studios aren’t willing to take risks on cool fun new ideas instead of adaptation number 7,000

a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on

Shoutout to my dad who accidentally moved into an up and coming black lgbt neighborhood and was very disappointed to learn that all of his “new friends” weren’t actually interested in how to use iNaturalist or where he saw coyotes on his walks 😔🙏🏻

It's so weird to me when people are like 'but that will cost the government money!' So what? They're the government, they're supposed to be spending money. What, you want them to take your tax dollars and then do nothing with it? Lock it all up in a big government vault and just look at it? Why are you so scared of giving a third grader lunch or a homeless person a house.

VENT//
What gets me about this whole situation is that Salvadorians of consience, both here and in diaspora, have been attempting to have these conversations with our families who insist that we are dismissing or even justifying the trauma of gang violence because they assume critics of the regime lack specific personal experience with the consequences of gang violence. They tell us we are "naive" for assuming that the regime is doing anything put punishing people who "deserve" it. Dig deep enough and they will tell you that everyone in Salvadorian prisons are gang members, that due process is not necessary because they are essentially human animals incapable of basic human capacities, and some will say that they should save room in the prisons by outright slaughtering people instead of being as "merciful" as they are by letting them live.
Now that Bukele has brought CECOT and the State of Exception to the attention of the international community due to its explicit collaboration with the US's rising authoritarianism, it is painfully clear that these same apologists that confidently tell us we dont know what we are talking about are woefully unequipped to respond to international condemnation of the system that has been put in place because they cannot see how these justifications are in line with every regime in history that has attempted to legitimize its power through dehumanization. At this point, as someone who is both Jewish and Salvi, I genuinely feel like our community's justifications are no different from zionist Israelis that make these same arguments to anti-Zionist Jews in the diaspora and to the rest of the international community.
The co-opting of the "I 💙 pupusas" brand of Salvadorian identity has bothered me for a while as it is an offshoot of the mango-diaspora-poet industrial complex but it goes beyond that now to the point that I find myself genuinely embarrassed to publicly affiliate with Salvi identity while it is associated with these opportunists pillaging our natural resources, buying into the global right wing paradigm shift, and attempting to make our home marketable through surfing, beachfront properties, bitcoin, sunglasses, and pupusas. These things are no longer just annoying but are at this point becoming the aesthetics that will be remembered for how they were used to obfuscate the reality of Salvadorian and US violations of human dignity, and if the gravity of that doesnt hit you now, then it's either because you haven't been paying attention to how much either regime has done or you don't believe it will escalate further than it absolutely will.
If all of us in the diaspora are serious about actually maintaining a legacy worth preserving, we need to be taking notes from our predecessors that were legitimately resisting the right-wing colonial fucks, learn from their mistakes, make it very explicit that all of us from whatever corner of the world we ended up in support whatever the hell our comrades back home have to do to fuck these guys over, and then we have to match that wherever we are.

Luigi Mangione could be getting the death penalty…
This man is innocent, his appearance and build doesn’t match that of the killers, the only “motive” he had was a convenient written confession showing that he supposedly viewed healthcare companies as “parasitic” and too expensive (which does somewhat contradict the actual killers actions) he had said note and the murder weapon conveniently on him while living his ordinary life, the killer held the gun in his right hand while Luigi is left-handed, Luigi and the Killer were potentially seen simultaneously, they wore slightly different coats.
The NYPD KNOW these are different people, they know the evidence is lacking, this isn’t a mistaken identity, it’s framing, they are trying to make themself appear to still be control by catching this man, humiliating him, killing him, when they know full well that the person they are prosecuting ISNT EVEN THE RIGHT GUY! This is an injustice! This is not a fair trial! This is downright tyranny!
