i was going to use this as proof of dyslexic!Snotlout until i realized, finally realized, because it only takes me three times rewatching to start noticing important things like snotlout’s freckles and the fact that the runes on the dragon eye are different from the archipelago runes.

but that leads to a few different questions - i think these are foreign runes, because they look like the same runes used on the dragon hunter cages (and the dragon hunters are canonically foreign to the archipelago)

but if so how does fishlegs decipher them? does he just guess based on their own knowledge of dragons and assume the dragon eye is listing the same knowledge and figuring out the symbols that way? - he mentioned ‘symbols’ representing ideas in the next line after this scene, so either these runes are more like uhm pictographs and less like an alphabet* (*because archipelago runes are used like an alphabet for english in the httyd universe), or he’s skipping over all that language filler and going just off stand-out runes relevant to dragon facts and using these like clues??

if anyone has been thinking about this longer than i have please answer lmao
