I got to thinking about the Weird Route in Chapter 4, specifically what happens with Noelle and the SOUL?
Deltarune is the first we've heard of a SOUL being able to fracture itself and insert a shard into another person to kinda control them.
and I started thinking back that something like this has never happened in Undertale
oh wait
Human SOULs aren't necessarily 'made' of Determination, but they are often the source of it. In Undertale, we see Alphys' DT machine able to extract and inject it into monsters, there it's extracting the Determination directly. The results are horrifying and melty, but also enhances some of their magic, likely if there wasn't multiple monsters that melted together and started sharing a consciousness, their magic would still function differently, potentially stronger.
So now, in Deltarune, we (through Kris) have basically directly injected a shard of our SOUL into Noelle, not just the Determination. It might even be literally the same metaphysical principles as injecting Determination into a monster.
It enhances their magic, and if there are other monsters around, their consciousness gets bound together. But what if the origin of that injected Determination was still conscious anyway. Will the injectee's consciousness still get bound?
We're turning Noelle into a remote amalgam.

The Knighted King
Only technically a spoiler since it references a scene in Chapter 4 where you can sneak around in Noelle's house and can eavesdrop on Asgore talking to himself.
Anyway, this is just my interpretation if multiple things are true: Lightners can look like the Knight if they have/use a Shadow Crystal, and Asgore has a Shadow Crystal and uses it.
Design Notes: I tried a combination of the Roaring Knight's design, combined with Asgore's battle sprite from Undertale. I also very specifically wanted to invoke the "is it a smile, or is it the visor?" on his head (as well as Undertale Asgore's face sometimes looking like a grin, even though he's actually looking down.)
His other horn I had look like the actual Knight's antler, but also looking like a twisted crown. And his Black Shard is his trident from Undertale, but with a giant black blade in the middle.
The fact that his armor looks like a groom's tuxedo was definitely intentional, yup (it wasn't, it was a happy accident)
