Breathe in. The ability to breathe is almost completely reflexive, and like most things, it comes to you naturally, with little effort or meaning. Many of the diseases that affect the lungs are hereditary, is there some unknown family trauma there? Something someone wasn’t telling you? If we only inhale, we die. If we only exhale, we die. We need both. You have mastered that tactful dance, at least, until something unexpected comes knocking. Something that steals your breath away, that pries your oh so precious air from your lungs and leaves you cold, winded and alone. A collapsed lung cannot kill you, but it aches more than broken bone, it’s sticky and bloody and cloying. You can recover though. You always have. Breathe out.

lifting the gold panther mask from her face . her features fleshly and raw beneath the gilded guise were suddenly there now exposed insistently present before him and within the same motion the knife slipped from her grip to clattering onto the tiles . what a relief ( he wasn't scared of her , no. ) but he was afraid of causing a dilemma especially with a v.i.p . but this moment was just only so short-lived ; long elegant nails sliced through the space between them catching the edge of his own mask before he could even register motion he wasn’t expecting her couldn’t have anticipated such a thing but it was fair game , in its own anarchic sense – considering he removed her mask .

the frame itself tore away freely landing with a muted finality between them he was also exposed ; how wonderful in that defiance of the system’s rigid rule to know faces where anonymity once reigned . looking at his now fallen mask his dark brown eyed trailed up to meet her's . his reaction was dry filled with exhaustion but soft amusement was etched beneath the shadowy lids of tired lines of his eyes . disappoinment , his jawline clenched . ‘ pulling my mask off isn’t going to do anything , ’ he said teeth gritted in mild exasperation not cruelly but with that same disciplined restraint that made his presence felt . ‘ you’re still in my facility, still on my floor and still a guest . ’ so you better calm the fuck down . the officer bent down slowly collecting the blade from the floor with the care of one handling fragile glass . the tip resting lazily in his hand as he stepped back unhurriedly growing with an odd mixture of menace and tired elegance he pointed the blade towards her . ‘ get back to the room now . ’

“ how do they sleep ? curled up, sprawled, holding onto something ? ”

⠀⠀⠀ ̷⠀⠀⠀sleep position ; he does not in any single way - have a fixed way of how he sleeps . because most nights he starts out on his sides a hand tucked under his pillow . on other nights he's on his back with an arm bent lazily on his stomach with his legs stretched out but never fully straight and if it's been a long day he's completely sprawl out on to the bed his leg somewhat hanging off the bed depending on how he tosses himself onto the bed . and sometimes if he doesn't make it to his bed , while being infused and intoxicating himself with alcohol . he falls asleep on his single chair - head thrown back - completely out of it . he's long gone and to drunk to even bother about his neck . ( which is going to cause some serious neck pain when he gets up )

“ do they have a recurring dream or nightmare ? ”

⠀⠀⠀ ̷⠀⠀⠀nightmare ; he does - and he always manages to wake himself up when these occur . especially when the nightmare takes him back to past memories he's sworn he's forgotten or even the bleak moment of nearly dying .

⠀⠀⠀ ̷⠀⠀⠀calloused ; and more like the type you can instantly tell they've done heavy work in their life . the roughness gripping onto the surface of their palm . the texture is a bit rough over his knuckles especially the palm’s heel . he uses medical lotion or just regular hand cream to rub on his hand almost every day to soften up the roughness in his hands attempting to his hands much more smoother at least .

“ what do they always carry with them ? ”

⠀⠀⠀ ̷⠀⠀⠀cigarettes ; never has the man ever had a pack of cigarettes leave his side . the addiction wasn't always a thing but now things have changed he always carries a pack in his pocket ( whether theres only one it a few in there ) . he'll puff puff ! whenever he desires .

“ what kind of letter would . they write but never send ? ”

⠀⠀⠀ ̷⠀⠀⠀to unknown ; he wouldn't quite know what to write in the letter but a letter to a now distant someone that he promised to many years ago . but now would be turned into a short apology one that isn't a confession but admitting the moments he still thinks about .

what the fuck was this . . ? of all places in the facility - of all the persons in this facility , he ends up right here with them . knife in hand which was supposed to be used as a threat to him . just by the way her eyes looked through the gold pleated panther mask like she had some sense of control over him . his jaw clenched hardly however it was because of the knife being at his neck but who was holding it . a v.i.p of all of everything . these cheap plastic souled draped in false power and royalties , he'd dealt with them many times before enough to know how pathetic they were under all the masked lavishness . they were cowards with money . but this one ? she seemed like a handful , overly proud to play pretend with him in this moment but she needed to know that he still had authority and she's just a guest . ‘ put the knife down now . ’ the words scattered out from his lips calmly he didn't want to cause much of a problem . because was this because he denied her stupid little request earlier ? he wasn't too sure himself and if she was going to harm him just for it , he would make sure that's not going to happen .
