Changes on SketchUp:
- Instead of having 6 threads on the side, we have decided just have 4 on the corners, and having a 2 frames on the side of the frame. There are also texts which indicate where to cut the thread once people are done with the weaving.
- Red texts under the frames in the sculpture:
- We have come up a little added on detail on the frame sculpture, where there will be text under some of the frames. As the ground is going the be mirror, having bright colour texts will reflect on the mirror, and audience will be able to read it. We were thought that could be a good idea to have some sort of instruction for people who dont know how to do weaving.

Feedback from week 11
- Perhaps there the design could be a bit more involved with the audiences?
- Getting audiences to do some weaving as well??
Changes on SketchUp model:
- Added some thread for people to do some weaving. on the 4 corners and having 6 of them on one side.
Good thing about it:
-The result would be more unpredictable as we will never know what will audience do with the weaving.. e.g. will they block off the space in between frames??

I have recreated a new sketchUp model for our Final design, as we want it to be less complicated and more space in-between panels where people can walk through it easier.
I have export all the final material for this model as well. Here are all the plan section and elevation.

Rationale
Rationale Together as a group we have created an intricate architectural exhibition to be displayed on behalf of New Zealand at the quadrennial in Prague. We have created a structure which engages multiple senses as you are fully emerged within the structure. Our reasoning for creating an exhibition which indulges more than one of the senses is to let the audience become the performance. We want people to come and feel the different materials as well as listen to the different sounds they make while being touched. We have incorporated wool into our design as a way to represent New Zealand, as wool is one of the biggest exports from New Zealand. Our exhibition will be placed on top of reflective glass to give the illusion of a bigger space as well as adding another interesting element to our exhibition. Throughout our design process we have over come a lot of obstacles with changing our design more than once to create something we would be truly proud of to exhibit at the quadrennial. We have all had input into our final exhibition and all our ideas have been portrayed in our final body of work.

Here are a few examples of using thread with our frames in a smaller scale.

Edith Meusnier
Textile Installation Artist
Tumblr media
Contrasting to the immediate environment, this textile installation is eye catching. A weblike structure woven between the natural landscape. Carefully positioned to intertwine, and highlight the connection between the manmade landscape vs. the natural one.
Tumblr media
She often used bold colours, that feel more vibrant due to the sunshine streaming through the semi transparent space.  Depending of the site where Edith has chosen to weave, depends on what she creates. The space above is able to be walked through and interactive with. When wind blows the space gentle gets pulled and slightly transforms.
Tumblr media
She really has the ability to transform the spaces her design occupies. Connecting to water and stone through material is really impressive. I like how she occupies the space, it feels inviting that you want to go up to it and touch it, play with it and see how it feels.

Feedback after Presentation
Look at the materiality and how people can interact with the materials further than just touch
Define scale with Sketch-up models and model
How does transformation happen within the space, explore wider than the concept of perspective
Explore how the perspective of the space can change, - weaving, pulling materials across and through the structure
How do you want people to interact with the space

Exploring Material
We stretched a piece of rubber over one of our panels from our scale model to see how it would look/interact with light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is interesting to see the shadows this created within our design and also gave us an idea of what a covered panel would look like. Although it became clear that we wouldn’t be able to “wrap” the panels as this interfered with the interlocking system. Instead the material would have to be placed strategically within the panel itself.

THE SOUNDBOX
The sound box is an extremely unique space which was temporarily created for the Hanover Expo in 2000. It was designed according to the main theme of the exhibition, sustainability. Constructed out of 144 kilometers of unseasoned wood (sustainably and responsibly harvested). The pavilion was assembled without any glue, bolts or nails. The structure is 9 meters high, with walls which divide up the internal spaces which are all used for various performances. Zumthor’s main intention for the structure was to create an ideal combination of performing art, music, drama, and decor into a form of ‘total theater’. I think visiting the sound box would have been an incredible experience all senses would have been intrigued through the clever craftsman ship. The feel, texture, color, smell and sound of the wooden structure would have created the most natural and organic experience. The only negative thing was the fact that after six months the pavilion was demolished. Although most of the materials were recycled, its sad that such a beautiful design could not be transferred somewhere else so more people could appreciate its fascinating interior.
