Firestar Warrior Cats but he’s a tragic “hero” and everything he ever did was in vain bc in his attempts to save the Clans he pushed away the only cats who truly cared abt him and inadvertently proved there’s nothing worth saving

I was thinking about how to explain all the young cats with vague parentage in Arc 1 without leaning on the retcons and it hit me

You know the epidemic that gets brought up early on (the one that killed at least five kits)? What if it took out so many cats that Bluestar effectively gave her cats carte blanche to Do Whatever Was Necessary to keep the Clan from dying out? It would imply the epidemic lasted longer than in canon, but barring that discrepancy it would add a lot of cool elements to the characters’ backstories:

The reason ThunderClan is initially wary of Firepaw is because they’re “overcorrecting”; they think if they’re extra pious now then it’ll make up for all the sins they committed before

It would give characters like Longtail, Dustpaw, Sandpaw and Swiftpaw even more reason to want to prove themselves; even if the older cats aren’t openly prejudiced, there’s always going to be that lingering suspicion about whether they can really be trusted because It’s The Clans

Tigerclaw has a more concrete reason for wanting to take over. In his eyes, Bluestar and his father both decided to go against StarClan when the going got tough, instead of powering through it

Maybe it could add another reason why Bluestar gives up Featherkit and Stormkit? Some of the younger generation could be half RiverClan, and there’s an implicit understanding that Bluestar is obligated to “return the favor” Crookedstar granted by letting ThunderClan keep the earlier litter(s).

Come to think of it, maybe that’s part of why ThunderClan-RiverClan relations are so bad! Sunningrocks is granted so little in-universe significance that I can easily see it being more of an excuse than anything (presumably neither Clan wants to acknowledge the real reason for the war)

Bluestar has another reason to think she’s “at war with StarClan” if she’s already defied them

Plus it opens up a bunch of fun possibilities regarding the parentage of the younger cats! Maybe Ravenpaw is half-kittypet and that adds to Tigerclaw’s disdain for him! Maybe Graystripe is half-RiverClan and there’s a degree of resentment from the rest of his generation because he “confirmed the stereotypes” they’ve been grappling with! (I was gonna suggest he’s from a second OakBlue litter but then I remembered who Silverstream’s father is) Maybe Frostfur’s kits are half-ShadowClan and ShadowClan wants them back idk there’s just endless possibilities

IT IS SO RETCON-HEAVY here are just a few examples for ppl outside of the fandom

One-eye is simultaneously the oldest cat in Into the Wild and younger than Speckletail and Smallear; both are in ITW and Speckle isn’t even an elder in that book

Barley is shown to be around Yellowfang’s age despite being born in a group that was founded years later (incidentally this would make one of exactly two canon gay ships incredibly problematic which is uh. Fun)

The Clans are EXTREMELY inbred because god forbid a character have no established kin; in particular there is an insane number of shoehorned-in sibling relationships that mean absolutely nothing and utterly annihilate the family tree (like whyyyy are Brindleface, Frostfur, Dustpelt and Ravenpaw siblings NONE OF THEM EVEN INTERACT)

In ITW it was a very important plot point that Redtail didn’t kill Oakheart. Guess what he fuckin does in Redtail’s Debt

Okay I usually like to mark Swiftpaw down as Tigerclaw’s (if only bc it slightly consolidates the absolute mess that is the family tree) but honestly?? This sold me on Stepdad Tigerclaw it’s such a neat dynamic (might make him half-Clan because it’d be interesting to see how Tigerclaw considering him One Of The Good Ones doesn’t save him in the end)

My Warriors hot take is that au’s where Swiftpaw is the bio son of Tigerclaw are extremely mid to me.
