Daeron of Doriath with his flute and fern crown 🌱
(I like to imagine he and Maglor have run into each other amidst their angsty wanderings)

"I see. Why?"
“To the forest.” That wasn’t a lie.

He let her go, worry gnawing at his gut. In all their years she'd never held a secret this fiercely from him, telling him in confidence every attraction, every little fun thing which brought her joy-- he had always been her companion. His flute was twirled in his fingers, and he decided that if she did not desire a friend he still needed to know as a brother.
And so, he gave the message to the guard that they both would not be attending lunch, and followed beneath the guise of a fox.
She shot him another glare, annoyed to be waylaid when she was so eager to be in Beren’s arms once more.
There was a nest of nightingales in the windowsill, and she stuck out her finger for one to hop up. She whistled a melody at it, and the bird took flight.
She brushed past Daeron again. “I’m leaving now, my lord.”

"I learned her enchantments, thank you very much. But I found secrets are more trouble than they're worth. "
"I don't have secrets. Why? Because I have a terrifying mother who always caught any lies I tried to tell with freakish accuracy. Secrets are futile when Ada then asks if you broke his favorite crown with the most disappointed look on his face."
"Lúthien on the other hand--"

"Very well. Then where are you going?"
“I am not sneaking off. I am free to go where I wish.”

He took her words in silence, ignoring the sting, and knowing that this was not going to work. He needed to know where she went, not sit here and argue. Hands swung behind his back, he nodded slowly. Damn, she couldn't make this easy.
"Fine, have it your way. But if I am not your companion, I am not your messenger either. You go tell Ada you will be late for lunch, because I'm not going to."
“You haven’t offended me but you are not my keeper,” she shot back, wrenching her arm free. Her annoyance only grew when the guard listened to Daeron, and not her. “I do not need you to follow me everywhere.”

"Oh yes it is. It's been my job since the moment you were born to watch over you where Ada and Naneth couldn't. Just because you want to sneak off doesn't make that go away."
@daeiron "Stop lying and i won't have to stalk! I'm your brother, Lúthien. It's my job to make sure you'll be alright."
“Get a grip, Daeron. It’s not your job to do either.”

What had he done to earn such ire? His violet gaze glittered in his own irritation, and with a hum he sent the guard a reassuring look and gestured for him to return to his post.
"Have I offended you, sister? I cannot imagine how. Feel free to enlighten me so we might put this trouble behind us."
Her eyes, dark as a starless night glared at him, annoyed at him grabbing her arm.
“It isn’t our outing. You aren’t invited.” She shot the guard an equally annoyed look. Why did no one seem to be listening to her today? “Good. Be wounded.”

Daeron approached with a growing smile and gave a bow ( unnecessary but still from a desire to be respectful before his father's court ). A spark of playfulness rode in his gaze, and when he straightened he answered as he did in youth when seeking to attain Thingols pride. "I did, ada. Though she tried her very hardest to thwart me from accompanying her. I fear my sister has fallen upon secrets as her veil these days. I find myself concerned, for we have a visitor from distant lands whom I spied her greeting. A mortal, it appears, has slipped within the boundaries of your realm."
Thingol smiled gently at his son, motioning him forward as he stayed sat in his throne. "Come. Thy presence here is always most welcomed, my dear one," he said, then got to the matter at hand. He rested his chin on his hand. "Didst thou mere moments ago return from the woods with thy sister?"

headcanon.
Daeron was born shortly after Thingol and Melian returned to the elven population. This makes him one of the oldest in the next generation of elves. He will hold it over your head. Right next to the fact that he invented the written form of Sindarin--you're welcome.

she did not get far, sneaky sister that she was, and his hand grabbed her arm to hold it in his own. Definitely up to something.
"Of course you don't, as if I'd suggest something so ridiculous. A brother who misses our outings and always seems to find you slipped out without him, however? That's a different matter. We can guard ourselves, and have a little fun doing it. Unless you don't want to? Honestly Lú," He smiled, though there was a knowing in his eyes as he urged the guard forward again. ". . .I'm wounded."
She rolled her eyes, dismissing the guard with a wave of a ringed hand.
“I don’t need a guard to leave the palace.” Nothing could harm her in Melian’s girdle anyway. She brushed past Daeron, hoping he’d get the hint.

His eyes narrow, suspicious and completely unbelieving. "Well why don't we go together then?" He asked as nonchalant as could be, pleasant smile plastered upon his face. "We can have a message sent to Ada, don't want you to be alone." He motioned for a guard to come nearer, watching her from the corner of his eye.
“…that doesn’t matter,” she answers, but there is a flush on her cheeks, a twinkle in her eye. “I need you to tell Ada that I can’t make it to lunch.”
