First off, you'll need to deal with Creaking, so do be careful. You'll get Resin by punching them, so get to it!

Anyway, they're hard and crunchy, assuming you don't break your teeth. They also taste like wood that's been soaked in sugar water, yum! (Though I used to suck/chew on tongue depressors in middle school, so I'm not the best judge of this)
