HELLO, HEROES! A NEW TEAM RISES DURING THESE DARK DAYS

Inundated art we with superheroes. Every day it seems new ones are popping up with some new gimmick that’s meant to blow us all away. Some have managed to make a name for themselves while others have faded into obscurity. Most — unfortunately — do not warrant their own features in a publication such as the Daily Bugle. With that being said, a new team has arrived on the scene that’s worth taking note of.

Some may be familiar with the Fantastic Four of Earth-616. They entered Earth-Prime when reality merged with our very own Earth-199999 — a very sticky subject that the Bugle has covered in the past. While the Fantastic Four are prominent in their reality, no signs of their Variants had yet to be seen. That all changed last week when Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm made a public appearance for the first time as our reality’s version of the Fantastic Four when they stepped in to stop the Mole Man in Midtown.

“We’re really excited to be here,” Susan Storm said in an exclusive interview with our own Christine Everhart. “And we acknowledge that we should have made our presence known sooner. There’s been some extenuating circumstances that got in the way, however. What we’re focusing on is being present now at the current moment and doing everything we can to help things run a little smoother.”

Expectations are high as we all wait to see what this Fantastic Four has in store. Their arrival also leads us to wonder if the rise of Victor Von Doom in our reality is imminent as well. We’ll keep our eyes trained on the Baxter Building — and Latverion — in the coming weeks, and you should, too!

BREAKING NEWS: TRAGEDY AT THE AVENGERS MANSION

The Bugle is the first to report that an explosion was called in on 5 April 2026 in Midtown, Manhattan at the Avengers Mansion. The explosion appeared to originate on the first floor of the Mansion, but no source has yet been identified. According to first responders onsite, the scene was catastrophic. “This was no normal explosion,” said NYFD Captain Dan Lee. “There were body parts on the floor. Anything that can blow up a superhero is bad news.” Although the press has tried to get into the Mansion for exclusive pictures and content, Mayor Luke Cage has made strict warnings that the crime scene is potentially contaminated. Captain Lee did point out a high level of radiation at the source of the explosion, leaving many to wonder if this attack came from a superpowered source.

Due to our prominence in the field, the Bugle has obtained a list of killed and injured parties. Walking away from the tragedy are Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Earth-199999), the super lawyer Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Earth-199999), Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Earth-616), Clea Strange (Earth-616), the Avenger’s member Valkyrie (Earth-616), Dr. Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange (Earth-616), Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Earth-616), the Scarlet Scarab (Earth-199999), Moon Knight (Earth-199999), S.H.I.E.L.D.’s newly minted Director Daisy Johnson/Quake (Earth-084) and the Vision (Earth-616). Mount Sinai hospital in Midtown admitted a new of heroes with injuries ranging from broken ribs to concussions, including Scott Lang/Ant Man (Earth-199999), Wakandan royalty Shuri/Black Panther (Earth-199999), Mockingbird (Earth-616) and Rosalind Solomon (Earth-616).

Unfortunately, the day was not without tragedies. From Earth-199999, the press has received confirmations of death from Hope Van Dyne/Wasp, Kate Bishop/Hawkeye, Spider-man, Sam Wilson/Captain America, Shang-Chi and Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange. From Earth-616, losses include Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Tony Stark/Iron Man.

It is worth noting that a number of mutants were also at the meeting. The nature of the gathering has yet to be disclosed, leaving many to wonder why mutant and Avengers came together in such a high profile meeting. Reported alive at the scene were the Earth-616 mutants Exodus, Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, Hope Summers, Kate Pryde, Logan Howlett/Wolverine and Scott Summers/Cyclops. The mutants were not without their losses, however. The once villainous but now reformed Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, and the X-Men members Illyana Rasputin/Magik and Jean Grey.

ENTER THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION

While a tragedy like this would normally predate a memorial service, the recently announced Phoenix Foundation has released a statement that they would kick off the project with the resurrection of those killed in the Avengers Mansion blast. “This truly is Jean Grey’s baby,” Emma Frost said in an exclusive interview, “but since Jean was unfortunately a victim in the Mansion bombing, I speak on her behalf to state that we are thrilled to use our resurrection protocols to help return these valiant heroes to life. We expect everything to be completed by the 7th of April. The Phoenix Foundation normally functions to save those overlooked by society, but even the wisest of men will you tell that there are times when exceptions must be made. After that, we will resume our normal operations.”

This announcement has come with questions from the public. Where the mutants got the D.N.A. needed for the resurrections has been posed multiple times, but the information has not been disclosed.

BREAKING NEWS: THE PHOENIX FOUNDATION IS FORMED!

Following public outcry that mutant have been gatekeeping the secrets of resurrection, it has now been announced by X-Men leader Jean Grey that a form of foreign aid independent from Krakoa has now been established. Titled the Phoenix Foundation, the entity will have candidates selected by Grey herself. This will take approximately five percent of the efforts of the mutant resurrection group known as the Five. Grey went on the record saying:

What we have on Krakoa is a boutique industry. Our psychics cannot back up the eight billion people on Earth. Even if we could, it's not quick. It's going to take over a decade to return all the dead of the mutant genocides. We have to bring back our people...However, we also recognize we are a uniquely fortunate nation. Nations that are fortunate have a duty to aid those who are not. In the spirit of foreign aid, I will personally be scanning those who are selected for immediate backup and recovery. The 'Phoenix Foundation' is a body independent from Krakoa who will be selecting those who receive this gift. This will prioritize the vulnerable, the weak, the poor and those whom the world abandoned. Maybe we can't save everyone. But we will save who we can. It's what the X-Men have always done and will always do...

SO LONG SPIDEY: NEW YORK SAYS GOODBYE TO IT’S FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN

It’s a dark day in New York City indeed. After a sudden decrease in public appearances, it’s been officially confirmed that the wall crawler known as Spider-man has been killed in action. This news comes directly from the official Avengers spokesperson. The statement reads as follows: Although Spider-man was not currently on our roster, we appreciate and acknowledge the years of service he gave both to New York and to the world at large. Spider-man devoted his life to helping others and he’ll always be remembered for his selflessness and sense of humor. The Avengers will be holding a public memorial on February 8th in Manhattan led by Steve Rogers.”

The death of Spider-man comes fresh on the heels of another spider themed hero’s passing. Jessica Drew, known more commonly as Spider-Woman, was also killed in action last month as confirmed by Captain Marvel herself, Carol Danvers. Both announcements fail to report the official cause of death for the heroes, which has left the public to wonder if they are related or not.

Of course, the complicated relationship that Spider-man had with the Daily Bugle must be acknowledged. Although publications have often labeled him as a public menace, the paper does appreciate all he’s done and consider this to be a massive loss. On a more personal note, as someone who had the chance to know him decently well, I can willingly vouch for the stalwart nature of his character. The sun may be peaking through the clouds this winter, but there’s a darkness that simply cannot be denied. Farewell, Spider-man. Until we meet again.

It was only a few weeks ago that NY Mag journalist Nate Jones first published his piece on one of Hollywood’s most talked about types: the nepotism baby. Abbreviated now to “nepo babies”, the children of the rich and famous were called out on their privilege and respective leg ups that they’ve had in the industry. Through an examination of who -- and what -- nepo babies are, Jones put a spotlight on children who grew up with one perpetually shining on them. As enjoyable as it was to read, the article left this journalist with one lingering question: where the hell are our heroes?

Bear with me here. I know it sounds ridiculous. The nepotism babies of the superhero world? We, as a society, barely tolerate heroes themselves. What do we have to say about their children that’s doesn’t involve calls to child protective services over reckless endangerment? This has happened before, mind you, with Reed Richard’s and his family. For more on that, please see the Storm-Richards page! Overall, however, the nepo babies of the superhuman world are born with more than just privilege: they’re born with power.

In this feature, you’ll meet a variety of nepo babies from our world and others. As Jones emphasized, there exists a spectrum within the world of generational heroes. You’ll see some born with cosmic powers while others inherited enough wealth to buy their way into the game. Now that they’re here, some will have the power to stay while others will fade into the background -- or meet a more grisly end. Whether or not their super genetics makes them any more worthy is hard to say. What’s known, however, is that the superhuman nepo baby isn’t going away any time soon.

THIS JUST IN – MUTANTS CAPABLE OF RESURRECTION. STORY BY BEN URICH.

NOT SO PLEASANT HILL -- 

It’s the end of the world as we know it. Well, maybe. Seven months ago, we reported on the Whisperer’s leak on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s top secret program, KOBIK. The news delivered by the Whisperer, later revealed to be Rick Jones, was concerning. It was, however, only the tip of the iceberg. S.H.I.E.L.D. had a dirty secret they were trying to keep hidden from the world, but everything comes to the light eventually. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s secret, in this case, is the town of Pleasant Hill.

From the outside, Pleasant Hill looked like a perfect town full of model citizens. There were ice cream parlors and schools, friendly bartenders, and mailmen. In the words of one witness, it was basically a Rockwell painting come to life. Like a painting, however, Pleasant Hill was not real. It was a construct carefully created by a government organization who was willing to cross lines into a highly controversial gray area. Pleasant Hill was, at its core, an experiment created by S.H.I.E.L.D. Every resident was a criminal or convict that had been relocated into the town and reconditioned. The town’s resident’s – although it’s more proper to call them inmates – were subjected to the Reality Stone and warped into model citizens with no memories of who they were. In other words, it was a huge violation of ethics and human rights. 

Captured criminals included the likes of the infamous Taskmaster; the disgraced former Captain America John Walker; the man who almost destroyed the Avengers, Baron Zemo; and Yelena Belova, the Black Widow who is the “sister” of Avenger Natasha Romanoff. Other inmates ranged from members of the Sinister Six to the Kingpin himself. Pleasant Hill was powered specifically by the Reality Stone that lives in the chest of the super villain Ripley Ryan, aka Star, who was kept sedated under the care of Dr. Erik Selvig. The system flowed smoothly until two events occurred: first, Helmut Zemo came to consciousness and began to wake other inmates. The second was the absorption of a group of heroes into the town after they had been sent to investigate. Another group led by Captain America himself, Sam Wilson, entered the border and the town fell shortly after.

In the seven months since, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been trying to clean up the mess while being held accountable. Rumors of multiversal rifts caused by the reality warping have surfaced (see Merryweather, page 7) are currently being denied. Criminals who were interred in the town have either been arrested or escaped, leading to a new rise in crime as the city is robbed and attacked by those who were inhumanely restrained. Heroes like Spider-man, Captain America and Captain Marvel remain on the job to try and keep the city safe as possible. Looks like it’s going to be one bumpy ride. The villains are back, and this time? It’s personal.

SOMETHING SINISTER THIS WAY COMES – 

Move over, Sinister Six! There’s a new syndicate in town. You heard it first here. A recent string of crimes across New York have citizens wondering if criminals were organizing once again. Although groups like the Sinister Six have reigned supreme in the past, ever since S.H.I.E.L.D.’s reality warping Pleasant Hill (see Urich, page 1) there has been an intense influx in crime levels. An insider tip alerted the Bugle of a new group that is currently making waves: the Sinister Syndicate. What appears to be a female version of the Sinister Six, the roster includes Anastasia Kravinoff (Kraven), Carmilla Black (Scorpion), Francine Frye (Electro), Lorina Dodson (White Rabbit), the Beetle and Menace. So far, the women have been far from secretive. They’ve hit banks and tech corporations around the city and show no sign of slowing down. Love him or hate him, this looks like a job for our controversial Spider-man.

Actress Mary Jane Watson attended the premiere of her new movie, Die Young, Live Free on the arms of hunky co-star Brett Goldwyn. Watson and Goldwyn were rumored to be dating, but the model remained E! corresponder that she’s still happily in a relationship with Empire State University adjunct researcher, Peter Parker. We’re happy for Watson, but the #watwyn shippers live on.

An insider tip revealed that renowned lawyer Matt Murdock has been arrested on one manslaughter charge. The Bugle will continue to update.

S.H.I.E.L.D. UNDER FIRE: WHAT IS PROJECT KOBRIK?

Two hours ago, a mysterious hacker known as the WHISPERER leaked files exposing a top secret S.H.I.E.L.D. security program, nicknamed KOBIK, which would allow authorities to use reality warping Infinity Stones to make changes in the fabric of reality without public knowledge. Here is an abridged version:

Confirmed: The Infinity Stones used by Thanos in Earth-13130 (main designation) were destroyed 26 / 4 / 2023.

Confirmed: Infinity Stones of Earth-616 have crossed over via human hosts. Known hosts are H. Bautista (Time) and R. Ryan (Reality). Task Force IS set to track down the other four.

Project Goals: Renewal. Rehabilitation. Restoration. KOBIK is a solution to a never ending problem and can happen quietly without notice of the general public. Government approval is currently pending but trial phase is authorized in a sealed off space.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

Data analysts have been reviewing the encrypted files and are still working to make a full report. After the danger of Thanos and the genocide he caused, the public is rightfully unsettled by the idea of the government relying on Infinity Stones to solve problems. Former Assistant Director Maria Hill recently took on the mantle of Director from acting leader Alphonso Mackenzie. When asked for a statement, Hill responded strongly:

These accusations have gotten completely out of hand. First of all, Kobik was a proposal, nothing more. I have a lot of proposals on my desk. It doesn’t mean they become reality, if you’ll excuse my choice of words there. Beyond that, for those criticizing even the intent of the proposal -- given what just happened to us -- the recent Thanos “Cleanse” Crisis -- If we could prevent that kind of tragedy -- or worse -- with a minor, carefully considered use of this program, shouldn’t we? Isn’t that our obligation? What we should be discussing today is the criminal who leaked classified intelligence, and in doing so, put lives at risk. Because, rest assured, finding out whoever did this just became my favorite priority.”

The closest S.H.I.E.L.D. has gotten to arresting the Whisperer was this morning in New York City, but former Captain America Sam Wilson stood in the way. Why the Falcon would work with the hacker is unknown, but the Avengers declined a comment. C.I.A. Agent Sharon Carter spoke for the government via Zoom this morning, citing the entire leak as “an unfortunate slip-up, but as the reports say, the government has not approved of this method.” With the Whisperer still on the run, we’ll continue to check for any updates on Project KOBIK and its validity.

CRIME RATES PLUMMET: A BLESSING OR A CURSE?

As recently reported, major crime rates across the country have declined by 30% in the last thirty days. In this case, major crimes pertains to those being caused by higher tiered criminals, like the kind you’d see in a costume squaring up against the Avengers. This change began with no warning and the Avengers have not commented, instead remaining divided over conflicts like Wanda Maximoff’s hostile takeover of Westview, NJ, the governments continued support of Law S.315, the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act and the now disbanded terrorist organization the Flag Smashers following the death of their leader, Karli Morganthau.

While it seems like we may finally be getting a reprieve from the danger that’s been so prevalent ever since the Avengers officially banded in 2012, some disturbing rumors have also come to light. The Bugle received an insiders tip that inmates have been disappearing from their cells across the country. As you may remember, former President turned Green Goblin Norman Osborn did a disappearing act five months ago and has not been seen since despite having an active warrant out. Osborn had been telepathically lobotomized by Emma Frost (for more info on mutant amnesty, check out Irene Merryweather’s Krakoa column), leading some to wonder how he would have been able to escape the Raft without a trace or apparently any aid. Others inmates whose statuses are unknown include Adrian Toomes/The Vulture (Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane), Agatha Harkness (Westview resident), Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye (Ravencroft), Georges Batroc/The Leaper (the Raft), and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Ravencroft). Our insider was able to confirm others have also been reported but could not provide names.

S.H.I.E.L.D. is currently in hot water due to the KOBIK Report that also dropped this morning (see page one) and we are left to wonder if security has dropped or the agency has something to hide. S.H.I.E.L.D. officially disbanded in 2014 after it was revealed that they had been infiltrated by H.Y.D.R.A. all the way up to the highest levels. The reemergence of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes right as Maria Rambeau’s agency S.W.O.R.D. has gained more attention due to their work with the Maximoff Anomaly. S.W.O.R.D. Director Abigail Brand went on the record saying she knew nothing about Project Kobrik or the escaped inmates because “That’s simply not my job. We focus elsewhere.”

Be it the eye of the storm or something more sinister is yet to be seen. If we are experiencing a mass outbreak of our most dangerous supervillains, the Avengers are going to need to find a way to get their heads on straight once more. As you may remember, the team is currently without a Captain America after Sam Wilson chose to step down and his replacement John Walker was stripped of the title and dishonorably discharged. With luck, all the convicts are in Bermuda drinking Pina Colada’s and retiring from crime. It seems unlikely, but it remains better than the alternatives.

WEDDING BELLS ARE RINGING! After rumors placed Inhuman Princess Crystalia Amaquelin and Pietro Maximoff  (the recently deceased brother of Avenger/Baddie Wanda Maximoff) together, the Inhuman Royal Palace confirmed the news along with Amaquelin’s pregnancy. Although our gossip columnist Miriam Birchwood called the baby long before, it wasn’t until five months after the suspected birth that the Palace commented. This comes on the heels of Amaquelin and Maximoff’s April 19th wedding, where civilians stood at the Hudson to try and catch a glimpse of the many heroes, mutants and royals who were welcomed in New Attilan. Princess Amaquelin was reported to be a victim of Maximoff’s Westview, so it’s likely the Inhumans shared the good news officially since a little time has passed. Congratulations to Crystal, Pietro and baby Luna! Hopefully ex-boyfriend Johnny Storm isn’t too heartbroken. There’s a long line of ladies ready to let the Human Torch warm them up.

TIME TO MIX IT UP! The Avengers recently updated their website to show new teams and rosters. Notably, Wanda Maximoff has retained her Avengers spot despite being called a terrorist by some due to recent actions (for more, check out our annual biyearly special).

LET’S LET LOOSE! The mutants of Krakoa have apparently announced that they will be holding a celebration known as the Hellfire Gala on Krakoa and allowing homosapiens onto the Island for the first time. The name Hellfire Gala sounds little ominous, but I’m there! Who wouldn’t want to see Cyclops rocking some formal wear? Hopefully Magneto breaks out the good cape for this one!

BREAKING NEWS: KAMALA’S LAW RESUMES!

Although the House and Senate voted to put a temporary hold on Law S.315, the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act, for ninety days to listen to testimonies and cases for and against it, they ultimately decided to move forward with the Child Hero Reconnaissance and Disruption Law Enforcement ( C.R.A.D.L.E. ) divisions raids and welfare checks last week. Underaged hero activity has seen a recent spike as of late and some assume it was a complacency in believing that they were in the clear that ultimately influenced the governments decision to crack down once more. Crime as a whole has gone down significantly in the last year, with C.R.A.D.L.E. Senior Office Carolina Washington citing it as a sign that it was a good time for young heroes young hero activity to cut back. “Those who register are the heroes we want. The heroes willing to do what it takes to keep our people safe. There’s no reason to muddy the waters with those who are careless or inexperienced,” Washington stated via phone call this morning.

Any hero under the age of twenty-one who is caught not in accordance of Kamala’s Law is brought to  one of the C.R.A.D.L.E. RE-EDUCATION Centers that have popped up around the country. There it is reported that they will receive accommodations and lodging until they are no longer a danger to themselves or others and can rejoin society. No footage has been released of the inside of the Facility yet but the government has assured worried parents that they are completely humane and more like schools than prisons.

Leading the charge against C.R.A.D.L.E. are the the Champions, a formerly popular team of Avengers affiliated teenaged heroes. Their failure to handle an incident at Coles High, NJ led to the injury of Kamala Khan (namesake of Kamala’s Law) and was the incendiary act that the government needed to move forward with the legislation. Those directly involved have warrants out for their arrests, and C.R.A.D.L.E. has been actively pursuing Spider-man (not the recently unmasked Peter Parker), Ms. Marvel, Nova and Vivian Vision. A warrant was also issued for Riri Williams (Ironheart), one of the few Champions whose true identity we actually know, but she has remained inactive. The closest C.R.A.D.L.E. has come was their raid of a Champions meeting on 30 May 2025 due to an anonymous tip. Although most were able to escape, officers took Amka Aliya (Snowguard), Lana Baumgartner (Bombshell), Fernanda Ramirez (Red Locust), Nadia Van Dyne (Wasp), Tiana Toomes (Starling) and Lunella Lafayette (Moon Girl) into the Virginia Re-Education Center where they are scheduled to stay for a month pending all goes well.

The United States picked Captain John Walker to take over as Captain America following the retirement of the original holder of the title, Steve Rogers. Although Rogers intended for his former partner Sam Wilson to fill his boots, Wilson donated the iconic shield to the Smithsonian after nearly two years of duty and has since refused to issue an official statement. Reception of the former Falcon was tepid at best, a far cry from the thunderous applause that welcomed Walker when he took over on 19 March 2015. During the next month, Walker and his partner Lemar Hoskins (Battlestar) worked globally until tragedy struck.

Sergeant Major Lemar Hoskins was a childhood friend of John Walker who also served alongside him in the U.S. Army's 75th Rangers Regiment. When Walker received the Captain America promotion Hoskins was officially presented as his partner who would work closely with the new Cap. Hoskins and Walker were following a lead on the revolutionary terrorists the Flag Smashers in Latvia alongside Sam Wilson (once again the Falcon) and the Winter Soldier, James Buchanan Barnes, when Flag Smasher leader Karli Morgenthau reportedly struck Hoskins with enough force to send him careening into a column where he died upon impact from a severed spinal column. The involvement of Wilson and Barnes is still under investigation as they were not authorized to be investigating Flag Smasher activity, and Morgenthau fled the scene. It was at this point that Walker was seen chasing a Flag Smasher out into the public square.

Walker’s brutal attack against the Flash Smasher identified as “Nico” saw the revolutionary defenseless begging for his life while the former war hero used the shield to cave in Nico’s chest cavity and nearly break the body in two. Caught on camera by the horrified onlookers, the United States Government sent in forces to retrieve Hoskins body and handle clean-up in the town square. Walker himself fled the scene but was apprehended by Wilson and Barnes, who took the shield and left Walker to be taken back to the United States.

Former Captain John Walker was officially stripped of his titles and honors by a court-martial on 28 April 2021, a week after the death of Hoskins. Cameras were not allowed in the court during the hearing but reports state that Walker made an impassioned plea on his own defense that were instantly disregarded. Although dishonorably discharged he does not face incarceration pending his return of the shield and continued agreeance to never again operate under the Captain America alias. A private ceremony for Lemar Hoskins will be held in Chicago, IL by his family and the United States made an official statement regarding him as a national hero.

With John Walker - once regarded as a national hero - off the table, the public is again wondering who the shield will fall to. Now that #takebacktheshield is once again trending on Twitter and the eyes of the world are once more on Sam Wilson, James Barnes and Steve Rogers. Will Captain America become a new face or one we’ve seen before? If a man with three Purple Hearts can fail to live up to expectations, how can anyone?

BREAKING NEWS: AMERICA’S NEW LEADING MAN EMERGES

In the two years since Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, retired from the public eye the mantle of America’s pride has been held by his former wingman, Sam Wilson (formerly known as the Falcon). The response to Wilson’s tenure has been subjected to a great deal of criticism and what some have called “racist bias” from the beginning with the hashtag #notmycaptainamerica and #takebacktheshield trending on social media platforms. Analysts have called Wilson “too bipartisan” to hold the shield while citing that he failed to sign the Sokovian Accords and lived as an international war criminal for two years. This has led to debate over the fact that Wilson was gifted the shield by Rogers himself but now acts on behalf of America. The legitimacy of a Captain America not selected by America has remained contentious until now.

Worry no more, folks. Captain America is here.

Following the events of the Maximoff Anomaly in Westview, New Jersey on 9 March 2025, Wilson quietly stepped down and donated the shield to the Smithsonian Museum of American History for safe keeping. The shield is, however, government property and the United States claimed it a week later. They made the official announcement on 19 March 2025 that they had selected Captain Jonathan F. "John" Walker to take over as our brand new Captain America. A West Point graduate, Walker was a special operations officer of the U.S. Army's 75th Rangers Regiment whose body has been tested to show results that it is nearly past peak human performance. Walker was a suspected candidate for the role of Captain America back in 2023 when Rogers first stepped down before Wilson took over and people are currently rejoicing over the change. The government sponsored a rally for Walker last night, complete with a marching band and surplus of American pride. In addition to being a patriot, Walker is also a humble individual who claims he’s just “trying to be the best Captain America that he can be.”

Whether or not Sam Wilson ever intended on reclaiming the shield is unknown and now irrelevant. With the symbolic icon passed from one set of hands to the overly competent next, America finally has a Captain America who is not only a hero but also aligned with the values that we American’s pride ourselves on. We’re going to need him more than ever with new threats always popping up, such as the terrorist extremist group the Flag Smashers. BREAKING NEWS: OSBORN ESCAPES!

Former United States President Norman Osborn, recently unmasked as the Green Goblin of Earth-616, has broken out of the Raft according to a confidential source. During his brief tenure in office, Osborn succeeded in dismantling S.H.I.E.L.D., creating S.315 ( the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act ) and his own teams such as the Cabal, America’s Avengers and America’s X-Men. Osborn was taken into custody four months ago on September 1st following a confrontation at Citi Field that saw both Avengers and X-Men working together for the first time since the Avengers v X-Men conflict at the end of 2023.

Osborn was kept in solitary confinement as isolation was deemed to be the best way to temporarily contain him. Although left catatonic by Krakoa’s Emma Frost ( the self proclaimed White Queen ), Osborn was returned to coherency in preparation for his trial. Several S.H.I.E.L.D. guards were injured in the escape but there were no deaths. Due to tampering with security footage there is no video evidence as to how Osborn escaped or who aided him. S.H.I.E.L.D. director Alphonso Mackenzie has confirmed that former America Avenger Ripley Ryan ( Star ) is not currently considered a suspect.

TRAGEDY AT THE UNITED NATIONS: MUTANTS MURDERED

THIS JUST IN -- Reports made at approximately 21:35 cited an explosion at a United Nations building in New York. The space has been used by the nation of Krakoa ever since December when they annexed the Island and became a sovereign state. Sources have confirmed that the wing was occupied when the explosion occurred and there are significant casualties. The U.N. announced via press release that eight of their staffers were killed along with the Krakoan / S.H.I.E.L.D. contact Nance Winters, who oversaw the nations relations through the now defunct government organization.

Within an hour of the explosion, the normally private nation made an announcement to address the incident. Mutant leader and humanitarian Charles Xavier has been missing from public sightings for the last two months for unexplained reasons and in his absence various prominent members of the mutant community have stepped forward to deliver statements and attend press conferences. This one was headlined by Emma Frost, the White Queen of the Hellfire Trading Company and Scott Summers, the former mutant terrorist known as Cyclops who currently serves as the Island’s Captain Commander. Both Frost and Summers are a controversial choice after their unpopular tenure as the leaders of the mutant extremist group known as Nation-X and their later involvement in the Phoenix Five. Still, the two made a rare onsite appearance at 799 United Nations Plaza so Ms. Frost could deliver the following:

It would be remiss to say that our hearts are broken. The intensity of the sorrow that we are feeling is insurmountable and unable to be put into words, but I will try so we can properly explain the injustice that has been done today. As you can see from the carnage behind me, a peaceful meetings of mutants was attacked and the building obliterated. In addition to the eight staffers and Ms. Winters, we lost thirteen of our own in one foul, deliberate swoop. Krakoa, as a nation, has prided itself on its privacy and independence but in this instance transparency is needed to express urgency. Eleven prominent mutants were attending a meeting with an Avenger and an adjacent to discuss an extremely confidential matter that was not disclosed to anyone outside the meeting. We do believe what they knew got them killed. 

Today we mourn our following friends and family: from the Marauders, Katherine Pryde ( Shadowcat ) and Robert Drake ( Iceman ). From Excalibur the team’s head, Elizabeth Braddock ( Captain Britain ). From the recently formed X-Factor, Lorna Dane ( Polaris ) and David Alleyne ( Prodigy ). From the new mutants, Samuel Guthrie ( Cannonball ) and Danielle Moonnstar ( Mirage ). They were joined by two lines of Krakoan defense, Sage, who handles all technology and interfacing and Celeste, Mindee and Sophie Cuckoo, three of the Five-in-One who were there to run telepathic interference. Our Quiet Council of Krakoa also suffered a loss as both Kurt Wagner ( Nightcrawler ) and Jean Grey ( Marvel Girl ) from the Summer faction were present. I realize that many of you care not about the plight of mutants. Our lives are trivial, our deaths meaningless. We have toiled tirelessly to prove to our children that that is not the case. We will not be denied, and as of late, have begun to receive more mainstream support. It is because of this that I have to announce with great sorrow that the last two victims were William Kaplan ( Wiccan ) and his mother, Wanda Maximoff ( Scarlet Witch ). Despite her role in decimating our people five years ago, Maximoff has since been an invaluable link between her people and her team. Because she is the daughter of Erik Lensherr ( Magneto ) we hold hope that both she and Kapplan will be able to be resurrected along with the other mutants. Which, brings me to the next order of business.

Last night, two adolescent mutants were arrested while on leave from the Island. Hope Summers and Eva Bell were taken into custody despite the fact that neither were using their abilities. Our sources have been able to confirm that they are not at the C.R.A.D.L.E. Holding Facilities but are most likely alive. Without them, we are unable to begin the resurrection process. Due to the nature of this attack we are considering it a direct call to arms and sign of war. We do not take this lightly. Now we mourn but we also prepare for the onslaught that must be rained down. You may wonder why I am the one they sent here today. It is not because all the other leaders were dead or incapacitated. Nor is it because I lost three daughters and Scott his wife. We are here because we get things done and right now that list is rather large. Perhaps in the past you could push us down but the Dawn of X began long ago and nobody is safe from retribution, President Osborn. Please, don’t worry that this is a threat. It’s not. It’s a promise. We’ll see you soon.”

So far, no further statements have been made on behalf of Krakoa to see if Ms. Frost’s words were being exaggerated. If our sources are to be believed then without Sage’s ability the nation will go dark in regards to updates and information, virtually crippling them. While we cannot say for certain that Ms. Frost is correct and this was a planned attack against the mutants by the United States government, the tragedy is currently under investigation. Elizabeth Braddock ( Captain Britain ) is a British citizen by default and M16 Agent Pete Wisdom has urged an international response due to the assorted citizenship of those present. Like always, the Daily Bugle will continue to update any further news. For now we send our sincerest apologies and best wishes to the Island of Krakoa during this difficult time.

AVENGERS OR ASSASSINS?  US PRESIDENT ATTACKED.

Tensions have been high ever since August 7th when a meeting called by the Avengers to sit down with President Norman Osborn became hostile. Mutant Nathan Summers ( Cable ) appeared to attack the President and in the following skirmish his father, Scott Summers ( Cyclops ) landed a direct blow on Osborn. Although America’s Avenger Star was there to help aid the President the entire group managed to escape. In this situation, it appears that the Avengers used diplomacy as a ruse to get closer to President Osborn. It’s no secret that the two groups have not gotten along ever since Osborn dismantled S.H.I.E.L.D. and created new teams such as America’s Avengers, H.A.M.M.E.R., C.R.A.D.L.E. and his own flavor of X-Men. With the recent development against the mutants it’s almost a dead-set certainty that things will continue to escalate.

An unexpected announcement came from the Inhuman's in New Attilan that their current Queen, Crystalia Amaquelin, is abdicating the throne effective immediately. Amaquelin stepped in over a year ago after her sister Medusalith Amaquelin and her husband, Blackagar Boltagon, stepped down as Queen and King.  Some wondered if Crystalia’s days on the throne were numbered due to her infamous temper, but representatives have made it clear that her reason for resigning is so that the former King and Queen can resume their duties. “Princess Crystal has always known that her tenure of Queen was not longterm. She was to rule until her cousin, Prince Ahura Boltagon, came of age or her sister and cousin were able to once again manage their responsibilities. We appreciate her hard work keeping the Inhuman nation afloat and are glad to see where we go in the future.” Hopefully that transition goes smoothly and the now Princess Amaquelin is content in her further endeavors.

OUT ON THE TOWN -- Paparazzi snapped pictures last Tuesday of the former Captain America, Steve Rogers, and the recently resurrected Natasha Romanoff ( Black Widow ) going incognito downtown in Manhattan. One keen viewer pointed out a rather simple looking engagement ring on Romanoff’s left hand. Rumors had been swirling before her 2023 death that the two were romantically involved and this seems to confirm them. Sorry, everyone! It looks like America’s Ass and the hottest redhead we know are officially off the market for good. Congrats to the new couple!

BACK & BETTER THAN EVER, OR, A TALE OF REALITY WARPING & RESURRECTIONS 

Gone, but never forgotten. That’s what we’ve repeated to ourselves time and time again in the six years since the Mad Titan Thanos snapped his fingers ( an act we call the Cleanse ) and half the world dissolved into ash. It wasn’t until five long years later that a group of brave heroes reversed what he had done and restored the world to a shade closer to what it once had been. This was, of course, not without great costs having to be paid. When Thanos was finally vanquished for good two founding Avengers were laid to rest: Natalia Romanova, the Black Widow, and Anthony Edward Stark, aka Iron Man. News of their deaths were confirmed by a representative for the New Avengers the day following the New Avengers Facility battle against the Black Order that culminated in the largest hero team-up we’ve yet to see.

Natalia Romanova, more commonly known by the alias Natasha  Romanoff started her career in Russia’s infamous Red Room academy, which turns young girls into trained assassins. Romanoff’s ledger was made public in 2014 following the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the revelation that the Nazi organization H.Y.D.R.A. had been embedded in the agency for years. After being recruited to S.H.I.E.LD. by fellow Avenger Clint Barton ( Hawkeye ), Romanoff worked as an agent for years before becoming a founding member of the Avengers in 2012, where she continued to serve until 2016 when the Sokovian Accords were passed and stricter international restrictions were put in place. Although she originally sided with Stark and the government, following the Clash of the Avengers in Berlin Romanoff dropped off the map. She was spotted once in Russia before going on the run with the former Captain America, Steve Rogers, and his associate Sam Wilson ( the former Falcon who has recently taken up the Cap mantle -- for more, on this please see Christine Everhart’s article on page 3 ). Despite two years as an international fugitive, Romanoff fought in the Battle of Wakanda against Thanos and acted as the representative to the public during the Cleanse. One of the more vocal Avengers dead set on righting Thanos’ wrong, a New Avengers spokesperson confirmed that Romanoff died on April 26th, 2023 securing the Soul Stone from a classified location alongside Barton. She was laid to rest in a private cemetery with the Romanoff Scholarship for at Risk Girls being created in her honor shortly afterwards.

Anthony 'Tony’ Stark was always in the public eye due to his father, Howard Stark, being an inventor, scientist, engineer, businessman and movie director. The elder Stark created Stark Industries, which his son later inherited after his untimely passing. As an arms dealer Tony was taken hostage in Afghanistan in 2008 but freed himself by creating a suit of armor. Living with an arc reactor in his chest, Stark became the first superhero with a public identity as Iron Man and became a founding member of the Avengers. After nearly sacrificing himself in 2012′s Battle of New York, Stark remained active even though it was his actions that led to the creation of the villainous robot Ultron and the untimely destruction of a large part of the European nation, Sokovia in 2015. Many considered Stark’s actions to be an apparent disrespect to life and property and urged him make amends. As a result, Stark sided with the Sokovian Accords and urged other heroes to sign as well.  Because of this he and Steve Rogers had a falling out that lasted years as Rogers went on the run and Stark started the Stark Internship, whose inaugural recipient was high school student Peter Parker ( who was recently unmasked as Spider-man ). After going to space in 2018 to try and stop Thanos, Stark came home after briefly being presumed missing and largely vanished from the public eye. The failure of the Avengers to stop Thanos from the Cleanse was something not commented on by Stark, who chose to move Upstate with his wife, Stark Industries C.E.O. Pepper Potts, and their daughter, Morgan Stark. He came out of retirement to help retrieve the Stones and was the one to don a specially created Infinity Gauntlet to kill Thanos once and for all. Following his passing Stark was buried a few days after and the Stark Foundation for the Rehoming of those Disrupted by the Cleanse was created.

For the last year, the world mourned the losses of both Stark, Romanoff and other deceased heroes, such as the synthezoid known as the Vision who was killed by Thanos in 2018 when the Titan stole the Mind Stone from his forehead. Rumors began flying recently, however, when Avenger Wanda Maximoff ( the Scarlet Witch ) appeared to be spotted with a man who resembled the Vision. This set in motion what appears to be a new era in which what we lost has been returned to us. The New Avengers were able to confirm that it was, indeed, the Vision returned by means not yet confirmed. Mutants have been known for their resurrections as of late, but that seemed limited to their nation of Krakoa. It never seemed like something that we’d see in our world at large. Not until recently, that is.

On August 3rd, 2024, President Norman Osborn held a press conference that promised a sign of hope and change. Osborn’s Avengers, known as America’s Avengers, have been received with various degrees of public support. Along with him Osborn brought team member Star, who was recently revealed to be reporter Ripley Ryan. A controversial member, it has been revealed that Ryan possessed the Reality Stone from her home world of Earth-616 in her chest. “I don’t want to dip into the cliché and say that I live to serve,” she stated at the press conference. “but my goal is to be an Avenger for the people, and that means doing everything in my power to make the world a better place. Thankfully, I happen to have a lot of power.” This sentiment was echoed by Osborn, who pointed out that in the past the Avengers had failed as public servants and had instead caused more harm than good. He went on to add, “Instead of trying something futile like banning them once more, we’ve taken a new route. We’re leading by example, making good of our gifts. We’re making America a place you can feel safe and secure in. Consider this the first step.”

The ethics behind President Osborn’s following announcement have already been debated on popular social sites like Twitter as the public weighs on that which was once considered impossible: resurrection. That’s right, folks. You’re hearing it first here from the Daily Bugle that President Norman Osborn along with the help of Star has resurrected Natasha Romanoff and Tony Stark. The two were present at the conference and expressed gratitude for their return but remained, for the most part, silent and let Osborn speak. A call to the New Avengers confirmed that they were unaware of the President’s plans or the return of their teammates. We have reached out to Stark’s widow, but so far Ms. Pott’s has been unreachable.

“The last thing we wanted to do was dishonor Stark and Romanoff’s respective sacrifices, but this was a wrong that we knew we could right. Under careful supervision Star was able to achieve a great feat and there’s no ulterior motive or fear that reality will crumble. We’ve  worked with multiversal experts to see what it’s possible to achieve. We also won’t be pushing Iron Man or Black Widow to join America’s Avengers. They’re welcome to rejoin their old team or retire and enjoy the world they helped save. This is the power that heroes who work in the best interest of the people possess. This is a world that we can live in, and America’s Avengers are dedicated to continuing this notion. We hope you accept this offering and remember that we live in a world of possibility.”

As soon as the dust clears the Bugle plans on reaching representatives for Romanoff and Stark to try and get individual statements. Osborn spokeswoman Lily Hollister, who handles statements for America’s Avengers, has promised that more details will soon be revealed and that an exclusive interview with Star will take place. In the meanwhile, sources have reported that Stark and Romanoff have been taken to the New Avengers Compound in Upstate New York to reacclimatize. The Bugle will continue to update the story as it unfolds, but in the meantime we wish the best to our fallen heroes and hope they’re happy to see the world they died to protect. If we live in a world where the dead walk again, what will we become when life is no longer fleeting?

TOO MANY COOKS IN THE KITCHEN: CAP’S, THOR’S AND MORE. OH MY.

Captain America. Thor. Captain America. Thor. The names are likely to be familiar to anyone who follows the Avengers, but lately things have become a bit convoluted. Following the final battle against Thanos on April 26th, 2023 our beloved Captain America, Steve Rogers, retired and passed the shield off to friend and former Falcon Sam Wilson. In the year since we’ve reported the trajectory of Wilson’s attempt to get his footing as the public pushed back with the unfortunately popular hashtag #NotmyCaptainAmerica. Some have accredited the hesitation to embrace Wilson as Captain American as a racist statement due to Wilson being an African-American man, while others attribute it to an inability to let go of the old and embrace something new. Rogers, meanwhile, has voiced his support for his friend but has remained out of the debate for the most part. Old rumors have placed Rogers and the deceased Romanoff in a romantic relationship, and his withdrawal from the spotlight could be a direct result of her death and the two years he spent on the run as an international fugitive. An issue some have had with Wilson is that appears to be too ‘bipartisan’ to be Captain America, and they prefer the United States Government’s option to #takebacktheshield: John Walker. Walker stated that he was flattered to be considered but doesn’t step on any toes. Still, if Rogers picked Wilson as a replacement he must see something in him that the rest of the us should believe in.

Similarly, there’s a new Thor in town. Although we love Thor Odinson whether he’s rocking long hair or short, he seemed to fall on hard times during the Cleanse and has only recently resurfaced as a hero. In the meanwhile a new blonde, helmeted, Mjölnir wielding Thor has made an appearance. Although dubbed the Mighty Thor by some, public reactions to a female Thor has been mixed as preciously repeated. Despite this she has served as a New Avengers as of late even though it appears that no one knows her true identity. When asked if she had any inclination of who it could be, Asgard’s current King, the Valkyrie, scoffed and stated, “No, but she’s worthy so that must mean something. Asgardia needs the help she can get, and we seem to have a preference for beautiful sparkly blondes.” It not the most illuminating statement, and while it may be concerning that their leader doesn’t even know the name of one of their champions the Asgardian’s need a break after all the sorrow they’ve faced between Thanos and the mutants during the Avengers v X-Men conflict of last year. As for our original Thor, he’s been spotted in both Norway where Asgardia is located and around New York with a very large axe. As it stands we’re not totally sure of the relationship between the two Thor’s and why they share a name, but it only seems like a matter of time before some answers come to light. Some wonder if Thor Odinson will try to take the throne back, especially as reports about the Valkyrie’s drink continue to pop up. Welcome to Earth, Asgardians. Hope you like speculations.

I’m sure everyone has their preference on which Avenger they prefer, but I personally am open to trying something new. After all, we as people aren’t stagnate beings. Some things change and people do as well. It’s natural to see mantle passed from one hero to another as time goes on. Hero work is, in a strange way, a job and sometimes positions need to be filled. Of course, time will only tell how well these new faces hold up against the daunting legacies of those who came before them. If it counts for anything, they have the good luck of this reporter.

Despite the passing of Kamala’s Law within the last few months, underaged superhero activity has remained at an all time. The black-suited web crawler Spider-man was recently spotted with his team, the Champions, in Brooklyn despite the fact that their teammate, Ms. Marvel, remains at large for her part in a recent incident at Coles Academic High School that left civilians injured. Recently registered underaged heroes include Ghost Spider, the two children of Reed and Susan Richards ( Franklin and Valeria Richards ), Billy Kapplan ( Wiccan ) and Nadia Van Dyne ( the Wasp ). The majority of the public has so far responded positively to the idea of underaged heroes requiring some form of accountability but response from the heroes has been negative. 

Go away, Guardians of the Galaxy! Not really, but most are scratching their heads over the fact that the intergalactic team that consists of aliens, talking trees and raccoons are still residing on Earth a year after Thanos was defeated. Members Rocket Raccoon and Nebula acted as honorary Avengers to help reverse the Snap, and when the Cleanse was undone their teammates Drax the Destroy, Groot, Mantis and Peter Quill ( Star Lord ) were returned to life. They are joined by former Daughter of Thanos Gamora and seem quite comfortable on our planet. Maybe it’s just part of our apparent alien invasion as the Shi’ar, Skrull and Kree still have dignitaries present. Looks like Earth is getting a little crowded!

AMERICA’S FIRST FAMILY LEADS THE WAY!

Although responses to the newly created S.315, aka the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act have been decidedly mixed the first superheroes have finally stepped out in support. Fantastic Four members Dr. Reed Richards and Dr. Susan Storm-Richards announced that they not only believe in Kamala’s Law but have also registered their own children, Franklin Richards ( 16 ) and Valeria Richards ( 14 ) with Mister Fantastic set to sponsor Valeria while the Invisible Woman will register Franklin. This announcement may come as a surprise to some but analysts predicated it weeks ago due to the Fantastic Four’s history. Child Protective Services were called a few years back, according to government records, as it was believed that children could not be raised in a healthy and safe environment if superheroics are in the mix. It was ultimately decided that the Richard’s were fit to maintain custody of their children. Their current support of the Act shows a continued devotion to making the world a safe place for young heroes.

Psychologist and government agent Dr. Valerie Cooper pointed out that S.315 was not put in place to discourage underaged superheroes, only disruptive behavior. “During formative years it’s important for there to be structure and consistency. S.315 requires underage heroes to enter partnerships with established adult heroes who can provide advice and guidance.” By that definition it should be easy for people to take extra precautions to protect their children and set them up for success. Upon turning twenty-one sponsored heroes are able to become mentors themselves, therefore creating a positive cycle that shows sponsorship is not censorship.

“We want the world for our children,” the Invisible Woman said in a Fantastic Four press conference. “But we also remember the fear and struggle that can come with harnessing metahuman abilities. Our son has fantastical powers and with proper guidance we know he can do fantastic things. That’s why we support Kamala’s Law; it fosters potential. We’ve always been champions of positive change and hopefully, through this, a little bit more is passed onto our children.”

With the Fantastic Four now behind the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act more heroes are expected to step forward. So far none of Osborn’s American Avengers have been listed as potential sponsors but they are expected to be soon. Hero teams such as the Champions and the family of minors the Power Pack are expected to sign up for sponsorship soon or will face repercussions. As more and more time passes it seems as if President Osborn’s America may be here to stay. If the Fantastic Four leads the way we may very well end up in a world with supervised heroics. Hopefully this goes better than the last time.

ROBBING THE C.R.A.D.L.E.: A CONTAINMENT OUTBREAK

Over the last three months the Child Hero Reconnaissance and Disruption Law Enforcement ( C.R.A.D.L.E. ) division of the government have rolled out raids and warranted visits to bring in underaged superheroes. As it stands, being a superhero under the age of twenty-one is not illegal as long as said hero has a government approved sponsor. The government has deigned Central VA Correctional Unit 13 in Virginia as the official C.R.A.D.L.E. Correctional Facility. “The goal is not long term residency,” C.R.AD.L.E. Captain Carolina Washington said in a statement after the announcement. “They’re not inmates. It’s a correctional facility in name but the point is to have a consolidated place to keep heroes safe while we process each case. After they comply they’re welcome to go home and continue making a positive difference.”

On May 25th C.R.A.D.L.E received an anonymous tip that the New Avengers would be having a meeting at the New Avengers Compound in Upstate New York. This tip came shortly after the Bugle received word that high school senior Peter Parker of Queens, NY was actually the masked hero known as Spider-man. Whether or not Parker was the reason C.R.A.D.L.E. was called to the Compound is unknown, but he was confirmed to be present. Please see our article by reporter Melita Garner on page 3 for more of Spider-man’s story. C.R.A.D.L.E. Captain Carolina Washington led the strike alongside America’s Avenger team-member Star, who was there to oversee the situation. Upon arriving they received pushback from Katherine Pryde ( Red Queen ), Sam Wilson ( Captain America ) and Carol Danvers ( Captain Marvel ) the operatives were able to take seven underaged heroes into custody. Parker managed to evade arrest alongside Illyana Rasputina ( Magik ) and Nathan Summers ( Cable ). The addition of the May 25th raid brought the total of arrested minors to seventeen total in the Correctional Facility.

Surprisingly, among those taken into custody was Xandra Neramani, daughter of the deceased Shi’ar Empress Lilandra Neramani and famed mutant leader and humanitarian Charles Xavier. The arrival of the Shi’ar in March revealed that the galactic empire had chosen to allow a fifteen year old to act as their Majestrix due to her Neramani royal blood.  She has been supported by Shi’ar Grand Council and former Majestrix Kallark ( Gladiator ). The Shi’ar are known for complicated family relationships, and it was her Aunt turned guardian Cal’syee Neramani ( Deathbird ) who handled the incident. Empress Neramani’s action as a minor on American soil conflict with her diplomatic status, but she was released the following morning to Deathbird’s care and the elder Shi’ar made reassurances that the Empire took no offense and that Empress Neramani’s position is an understandably delicate one. Xandra is the only arrested minor to be released and the rest were booked that night.

On June 15th there was a disturbance at the Correctional Facility when a group disguised as guards broke in. Security cameras have positively identified them as Avenger’s Hawkeye ( Barton ), Hawkeye ( Bishop ), Spider-man ( Parker ) and Spider-Woman ( Drew ). Also present were mutants Angel ( Worthington III ), Cable ( Summers ), Cyclops ( Summers ), Gambit ( LeBeau ), Hellion ( Keller ), Kid Omega ( Quire ), Illyana Rasputina ( Magik ) and Polaris ( Lorna Dane ).

No guards were killed during the break-in and injuries were minor. They managed to break into special holdings and free seven minors. Some of these youth were deemed a danger to themselves and others. Take for example, eighteen year old Lana Baumgartner, aka Bombshell. Baumgartner and her mother, Lori, were booked a decade back for robbery and the eight year old was sent to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Maximum Security Facility for Mutants. A child criminal with mutant terrorist charges, Baumgartner was deemed a victim of poor parental influence and given a parole that meant she was prohibited from using her abilities until the age of twenty-one. The revelation that she has been working with the Champions means she has broken her parole and is legally required to stay at the Facilities until she can be tried again. Cases like this show why C.R.A.D.L.E. is important. Some kids are caught up in things bigger than themselves but others make conscious decisions to do wrong and need to be held accountable.

C.R.A.D.L.E. is currently working to reprehend those who escaped. Jurisdiction remains complicated in mutant cases due to the fact that while they now claim Krakoa citizenship most were born in the States and operate here. The same goes for Terrigen fueled Nuhumans, but like Krakoa’s Quiet Council the Inhumans Queen Amaquelin has remained firm that her people - who are also Americans - should be allowed to live freely as both.

THE CABAL THAT ISN’T A CABAL AT ALL, OR, POWER PLAYS

Cabal, noun: a secret political clique or faction. Normally, the point of a cabal would be to stay true to its definition and remain out of the public eye but news broke back in late April that President Norman Osborn was assembling his own with an impressive array of world leaders in a new sign of unity and development. Shortly after the leak Oscorp’s new spokeswoman Lily Hollister confirmed that the Cabal was real and would function similar to the now defunct multiversal Illuminati of heroes that had consisted of heroes such as Doctor Strange, Namor, Black Bolt and others. According to Hollister, the Cabal was never meant to be secret but treaties and alliances had yet to be secured.

Now made public, the ‘Cabal’ name has stuck but the group is being touted as a sign of unity and progress. Representatives hail from across the galaxy and are compromised of groups that normally would not be seen working together. Of course, there’s been a fair amount of discourse stemming from the proximity and relationship that each member has with the leader of their populous. I was provided information on each member from Ms. Hollister with permission to reprint it here.

Representing Latveria is world leader Victor Von Doom ( Doctor Doom ). Doom is the current leader of Latveria but used to be at odds with the Fantastic Four. His participation on the Cabal is one of the least surprising. Representing the United States is Dr. Valerie Cooper, Special Assistant to the President's National Security Adviser. Dr. Cooper has been instrumental on setting up S.315 and overseeing President Osborn’s new programs and initiative. Part of Dr. Cooper’s platform, however, is the danger of mutants and how superhumans can be harmful to the country, which leads some to be uneasy about having her as a representative.

Representing Asgardia is Loki Laufayson, the adopted brother of Avenger Thor Odinson. Laufayson is infamous for attempting to take over New York through the force of the Chitauri during The Battle of New York in 2012. Although apparently redeemed, there were rumors that he was murdered by Thanos in 2018. Laufayson’s blatant disregard for human life and safety is not something most want to associate the United States with. Laufayson is also acting as a diplomat for Asgardia, but he was not appointed by their King nor does she support him. The only statement that the Valkyrie would make is that “he is a snake, both literally and figuratively.” Because of this it would appear that Laufayson’s words hold no power in the country is supposed to be representing.

In a similar position is the representative of New Attilan, Maximus Boltagon. Boltagon is the brother of former King Black Bolt and is known for his madness and attempts to seize the Inhuman throne. When Black Bolt and his wife, Medusalith Amaquelin, stepped away from the throne it was Amaquelin’s sister Crystalia Amaquelin who took over as Queen, effectively passing Maximus over. This comes across as another power play by Boltagon to claim the Inhuman throne. Queen Amaquelin emphasized the fact that the Inhumans have a Royal Diplomatic Party and Boltagon’s participation on the Cabal is not reflective of their stance. Queen Amaquelin’s cousin isn’t the only Cabal threat to rule over the Inhuman people though.

Representing the Kree Nation is Ronan the Accuser. Queen Amaquelin made waves with her brief marriage to Pietro Maximoff, twin of the New Avenger Wanda Maximoff, and their daughter marked the first and only mutant-Inhuman born ( the inhomosuperior ). Maximus Boltagon announced recently after Amaquelin’s blowback on his Cabal participation that, “My darling cousin is, to put it simply, upset and distempered. She feels insecure about her position but with the stress of running our nation - which has nearly been run into the ground - it seemed fitting that I slip into the Cabal’s shoes. Of course, I know there is the additional possibility that she is unable to look outside of her own past emotions and consider her people due to the participation of Ronan. Oh, yes. That’s right. It’s not commonly known but Crystal and Ronan did wed once upon a time. While it did to work out in the traditional sense it was never annulled and likely the reason why she fails to live up to her duties.” A royal representative did not deny the claims that Queen Amaquelin and Ronan had wed but said it was for the sake of alliances and had no continued contact, nor did his presence impact the Queen’s ability to rule. Maximus, who has been admittedly unstable in the past, is currently listed as working against his people although the Cabal does not denounce his actions and the Accuser has only commented on the state of the Kree and not his marital status.

As mentioned in Sally Floyd’s front page article, Cal’syee Neramani, the Shi’ar known as Deathbird, arrived on Earth with her niece Empress Xandra Neramani. The representative for the Shi’ar was announced to be Deathbird, though,  instead of the young Majestrix or former Majestrix Gladiator ( Kallark ) who had ruled after the death of Xandra’s mother, former Empress Lilandra Neramani. Deathbird and her younger sister had often gone head to head after Deathbird was exiled for matricide but still wished to claim the throne. During her banishment Gladiator became a prominent leader until Xandra’s existence was discovered. The teenaged Empress had been living with an attendant of her mother and her father, Charles Xavier, had not known of her birth. Because the Shi’ar believe a Neramani should sit on the throne Xandra was selected as Majestrix over Deathbird, who took on the role of advisor. Following Deathbird’s participation on the Cabal and Empress Neramani’s arrest by C.R.A.D.L.E. it looks as if there are cracks in the Shi’ar ruling infrastructure. “Xandra is our Majestrix,” Gladiator told the Times. “I serve the throne and she is the one who by blood and title deserves to sit there. Deathbird’s actions have been nothing short of treacherous and while that kind of behavior was endured by Lilandra it should not be by her daughter. We will not tolerate the behavior of Cal’syee. Any stances from the Shi’ar will come from the Grand Council. As for the Empresses arrest, we are currently working with the nation of Krakoa to look into the disrespect.” Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and it seems there may be one too many under it in the Shi’ar nation.

The most intriguing of the representatives is that of Krakoa’s, however. It came as a surprise to most that the mutant nation would get involved as they have been pushing their  sovereignty and independence. Emma Frost, the White Queen, was announced as the Krakoa representative and brought with her connections to their very exclusive  Hellfire Trading Company, the most recent iteration of the Hellfire Club. Frost’s participation with the Cabal allowed previously denied access to Krakoa’s drugs and medications and the Island stayed mostly silent about her involvement, although inside sources say their Quiet Council was far from pleased. A group of New Avengers and mutants crashed a Cabal meeting last month and Frost was seen getting into an altercation with Katherine Pryde, the X-Men formerly known as Shadowcat who has since become the Red Queen in Frost’s club. The incident involved Pryde apparently breaking Frost’s nose and rendering her unconscious before she was carried out by former flame and partner Scott Summers. In the week following the Hellfire Trading Company released a statement that, “While Emma Frost believed she was acting in Krakoa’s best interest it has since been decided that that is not true. Krakoa wishes to have no ties to President  Osborn’s Cabal and the Hellfire Trading Company will no longer dispense petals through it. All trading will resume on the same international level as before. Both Ms Frost and Katherine Pryde are fine, their disagreement a very tiny part of their impressive friendship and partnership.”

It seems that from multiple sides the Cabal may be crumbling. The Shi’ar are actively petitioning to have Deathbird removed and Asgardia and New Attilan have made it clear their supposed diplomats do not represent them. The resignation of Emma Frost marks a vacancy in mutant representation but Krakoa is making no moves to fill it. This old reporter has always had his hunches, some of them right and some of them wrong. Power hungry people working together can either lead to two things: domination or a fracturing with the potential to go very, very badly. Sometimes you say ‘only time will tell’, but in this day and age there’s an ever pervasive feeling that we don’t have all that much time before things go wrong.

PETER PARKER: THE WANTED WEBHEAD UMASKED

Peter Parker is Spider-man! As you may have read in my May 25th expose, the Daily Bugle received a hot tip that a photo had been taken of Spider-man maskless. I’m sorry to report to those who are crushing on our spandex clad wall crawler that Spider-man is actually just a seventeen year old from Forest Hills in Queens, NY. Photos of the teenager in costume were sent to our publication and after verification posted a digital article update on the situation. This comes as a surprise to most, including the Bugle, as the Midtown School of Science and Technology worked as a photography intern for us over the course of the last year and was the inaugural recipient of the Stark Internship in 2015. Due to Tony Stark’s work as Iron Man  it is likely that the deceased hero knew of Parker’s identity. His Internship now seems like an elaborate cover-up to aid him in dangerous activity instead of a real accomplishment. Bugle Editor J. Jonah Jameson sent out a press release that, “Spider-man is dangerous. Always has been, always will be. The Bugle was not aware of our connection to this deceitful young individual and we renounce any ties to him moving forward. It’s a shame. A real, crying shame.”

Another connection to Parker is Captain George Stacy, a respected member of the NYPD. It was confirmed by Parker’s classmates that for the last few months he had been seeing Gwendolyn Stacy, the Captain’s daughter. Although there’s been no word of how serious the relationship is Captain Stacy has announced that the NYPD will be monitoring the graduations of Standard High were Gwen and President Osborn’s son Harry go and Midtown School of Science and Technology for the safety of Parker’s classmates. “Leave my daughter out of this.” Captain Stacy ordered. “Gwen was just as in the dark as everyone else. Her personal choices are not yours to judge, and if she learns anything about Peter Parker’s whereabouts it will be reported.” Similarly, the White House issued a statement as Harry Osborn is a known childhood friend of Peter Parker’s. Secretary Henry Gyrich went on record saying, “Mr. Osborn believes, like his father, that America comes first. He is glad that a potential danger has been exposed and hopes Mr. Parker will do the right thing, turn himself in and register soon. The Osborn family will be issuing as no more further statements on the matter as President Osborn has a country to run and Harry needs to focus on preparing for his next stage of life.”

From what we have been able to gather, almost no one knew Parker was Spider-man. We have reached out to his best friend, Ned Leeds, and ex-girlfriend and classmate Michelle Jones for comments but have been advised by the Leed’s family that Ned will not be commenting. So far we have not made contact with Jones aunt, Anna Watson. Calls have been made to Parker’s legal guardian. May Reilly-Parker, but she has left her Queens residency and been moved to the New Avengers Compound. It is not known if Parker is with her and the Avengers are aiding a fugitive. You can expect to hear updates as soon as  they are released.

June marks graduation season, and the Daily Bugle would like to congratulate this years group of seniors, many of which were victims of the Cleanse. For recognition, Midtown School of Science and Technology submitted senior valedictorians Elizabeth Brant and Michelle Jones. Their original submission included senior Peter Parker for his work with  the Stark Internship, but have requested that his name be removed following the recent revelation of his double life as Spider-man. Standard High would like to recognize senior valedictorian Gwendolyn Stacy, daughter of New York Police Captain George Stacy. Also coming out of Midtown is Harry Osborn, our country’s first son and the only child of President Norman Osborn. The Bugle congratulates this years graduates and wishes them happy, successful futures.

July 4th marked what would have been the 106th birthday of American hero Steve Rogers. Although our favorite Captain America ( sorry Sam Wilson! ) may have passed away back in 2023 following the fight against Thanos we will always remember the sacrifices he made for this country. Thank you for your service, Cap. We miss you.

High school student Kamala Khan remains in critical condition in an undisclosed hospital in New Jersey. Her parents have said that while Khan has made a lot of progress there’s still a long way to go. The former Champion and hero known as Ms. Marvel who is believed to be partially responsible is still wanted for questioning and considered at large.

In accordance with the United States Government, C.R.A.D.L.E. has been given control of Central VA Correctional Unit 13 in Virginia as the official containment facility for underaged superheroes who fail to comply with S.315, aka the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act. Our facilities will have five holding sections: general holdings for unsponsored minors, general holdings for sponsored minors, general holdings for minors with pending statuses, general mutant holdings and specialized holdings. Specialized holdings are tailored to fit each inmates needs to ensure that they cannot escape or harm themselves. Following raids leading up to May 25th, 2024 the following underaged heroes were apprehended and put into custody. Attached are their registration codes.

BREAKING NEWS: SPIDER-MAN UNMASKED!

That’s right, folks. You’re hearing it here at the Bugle first: Spider-man has officially been unmasked. Our friendly neighborhood Spider-man ( although some here at the Bugle would disagree on the friendly part ) was captured without his mask on in a series of photos sent in anonymously. After being verified to confirm that they were not photoshopped, the person in the photos was identified as Peter Parker, a 17 year old Midtown School of Science and Technology student and resident of Forest Hills, New York. Parker is cited as an exceptional student and member of the debate team as well as the inaugural recipient of the Stark Internship in 2016. 

“I know Peter Parker really well,” Parker’s classmate and fellow Midtown senior classmate Eugene ‘Flash’ Thompson told the Bugle over the phone. “You could even say we’re best friends, best bros, always hanging out. He’s a real humble dude, not in it for the bragging rights. If you want more deets I’ll be vlogging about it soon. Maybe I’ll dial his ex, MJ, or his current boo Gwen. Maybe even Peter will drop in. You never know who you’ll see on the Flash network.”

So far, calls to Parker’s Aunt May Reilly-Parker have not been returned, nor has any call to anyone else close to Parker. It is yet to be determined if Parker was aware of the photo leak before it occurred or who sent in the photos. The Avengers have also not commented at this time. As a minor, Parker will be required to report himself and register under the recently passed Kamala’s Law so he can become government affiliated and receive an accountability mentor. Failure to comply is currently being responded to with imprisonment in the Raft until the proper steps are completed.
