Panel of a Hyper-radiant Fresnel Lens (late 19th century) located in the Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum in Cascais, Portugal. That panel of three was taken from the Berlenga Lighthouse 1985.
#oh hey i took this picture! :D#forgot i uploaded it to Wikimedia commons honestly#I found out about that musem from Wikipedia and was annoyed that there were not any good images of the inside of the museum#also that panel is HUGE#like 12+ feet tall i think. insane.#i almost cried when I saw it

Happy 2 years birthday to this blog!!!!
I haven't been posting regularly as much this past year as my academics have really picked up, but it's been an interesting two years!
This blog really was the turning point that got me really invested in lighthouses and especially Fresnel lenses!
In those two years I've climbed the oldest active lighthouse in the world, saw a panel of a hyperradial Fresnel lens, climbed a lighthouse during a full moon, and many more things!
Future plans involve starting to collect USLHS Passport stamps, visiting Cape Lookout Lighthouse, and collecting more lighthouse books and memorabilia! Once I finish this next semester I hope that life will settle down enough to start posting again.
Maybe I'll make a spreadsheet to keep track of the lighthouses I post.
Anyway thank you all for loving this blog and I hope we can all continue to share in our love of lighthouses!

Building the Lego motorized Lighthouse set and they have a whole two pages in the book dedicated to how they ended up designing the custom fresnel lens piece I'm literally gonna cry guys this is so sweet
They went through multiple models and tested them all and ended up going with a piece that both looks similar to the original with a similar functionality of focusing the light beam
This set has so much detail and thought put into it ahhhhhh

Like when I first saw the set I was a lil disappointed with how the fresnel lens piece looked cause I have a soft spot for the older ones. But Man
They put so much thought into it especially considering the limitations of the size of the set and the Legos themselves

Perks of people knowing you like lighthouses is that they'll just give you stuff they find that has a lighthouse on it
My parents were at a rummage sale and got me a very pretty lighthouse painting as well as a patch from the Key West Lighthouse
