https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/73864/why-does-quarter-mean-same-thing-quarter
"Quarter of" means "quarter to," but its use is highly dependent on region and possibly age. (more here)
Ok this is something my gf and i disagree about but im less interested in settling the disagreement and more curious what other people think so

Some of the earliest research into schizophrenia spectrum disorders documents a phenomenon called 'double bookkeeping' where some people with psychosis have some level of awareness that their delusions are not true in the broader 'reality' that the majority of people live in (even though they are still real for the psychotic person in question).
If you are okay with more clinical language, here are some articles/studies that look into this:
Double bookkeeping and schizophrenia spectrum: divided unified phenomenal consciousness
Double Bookkeeping in Delusions: Explaining the Gap between Saying and Doing
Double Bookkeeping and Doxasticism About Delusion
For more accessible language, here is a StackExchange thread that highlights what 'double bookkeeping' is in the context of psychosis.
this may seem like a stupid question, but i can't really find info about it online
you can have delusions, and be conscious that they're delusions? like, partially knowing it's not true, but at the same time they make you afraid, distressed, paranoid and anxious?
it may be dpdr too, but i wouldn't really know...
Hello dear! This is not stupid. I am not a medical professional, so all I can do is try to provide resources. From my own research, it seems the the accepted definition of a delusion requires the person experiencing it to be unaware that it is a delusion. However, there is a lot of mixed research and information around this topic as it is hard to define what these experiences are like for each person. There has also been a distinct lack of proper ethical research done on the topic of psychosis and delusions. I found two articles that are helpful in some ways but do not necessarily answer the question. The NHS discusses psychosis and delusions in the article below, and the WIRED article actually talks about research based on methods that center the patient experience over just neurological testing etc.
Sorry I couldn’t help more! I hope you can consult a professional who will give you the answers you seek.

man the like Outspoken European Who Smugly Jokes About School Shootings type guy is annoying but honestly i think a lot of (largely white) americans have gotten a thoroughly undeserved sense of superiority over europeans in online spaces forgetting that were like. fucking american
like i know you hold in your head how bad our country is, how atrocious america is, but i think a lot of you 1) hold it moreso as “bad to us, and also to other countries i guess but most importantly bad to us” and 2) are a little too willing to set that aside to engage in faux ironic patriotism that is increasingly coming off as not so faux
to be honest, and ill admit bias here as its one of the things i focus on so i see this more specifically, but i think some of it is some combo of like sublimated jealousy and inability to see past what you grew up with when it comes to urban planning that is not just inherently inimical to human life

Schizophrenic people: *struggle to identify our feelings* *have memory problems* *can be traumatized by our psychosis* *can have trouble speaking at all* *are afraid to talk about psychotic symptoms because of the intense stigma*
Nonschizophrenic people: So what do you hallucinate? What are your delusions? How do you feel when those happen?

being chronically ill is just. the world hates me. i have found such great community through people with similar experiences to me. i am never going to get better. i want to get better. the world wants me dead. someone showed me one iota of compassion and the world is beautiful again. my symptoms are flaring up and i wish i was never born. ha ha funny chronic illness meme. no one will ever know my body like i do. i love my body. i hate my body. i forgive my body. i wish my body belonged to someone else. no one understands. a stranger online thousands of miles away understands deeply.

getting tired of the genre of post that's like "<insert relatively common human experience> is because of autism/adhd" bc i feel like maybe autistic people or people with adhd might notice some things more acutely, but posts like these cause people to think (1) that anyone who has experienced that must be autistic and/or have adhd or (2) that being autistic and/or having adhd is basically the same as being "neurotypical" but idk, quirkier?
and the lines between "neurotypical" and "neurodivergent" in these cases aren't even perfectly solid. plus "neurodivergent" encompasses more than adhd and autism, so assuming that <insert relatively common human experience> must inherently be a "neurodivergent" experience even if it's primarily an autism/adhd experience just further erases neurodivergence that isn't adhd or autism
and even within discussions about autism, ppl don't really like to hear that "going nonverbal" isn't a thing (you're either nonverbal or you're not, it's not a temporary thing) or that ppl with higher support needs exist and are often talked over by people who are more functional (and no it's not a competition but yes, some people do need more help than you and that's not an attack on either of you)
so it's just. frustrating, i guess, trying to have actual conversations with ppl about what neurodiversity is and looks like, because if you look online, you see mostly (lower support needs) autistic people and people with adhd talking about how being neurodivergent looks like their experiences only, and if you look offline, you see mostly ableist autism moms whining about how "their child is still in there" or some other bs like that
and if you're not autistic and don't have adhd but are still mentally weird enough for "neurotypical" people to be like "yeah something's wrong with you, bud" then it's like. where is the solidarity? where is the support?
this is written from a schizo perspective but applies to personality disorders, intellectual disabilities, down's syndrome, and so many others who are constantly erased and/or demonised
(and no i'm not saying autistic people and people with adhd can't or shouldn't talk about their experiences. i'm just a little frustrated with how a very specific subset of those people have dominated the entire conversation about what it means to be "neurodivergent")

its so funny in a very ironic way that ppl who put themselves on such a high ground for having sooo much sympathy and for being soooo nice to others and for being soooo not abusive will look down at people who are literally trying just like everyone else to survive their trauma and disordered brains for having "scary" symptoms. they'll harass us, treat us like inhuman trash, like that just by our existence we are ruining the world. we're called abusers, rapists, murderers, monsters, disgusting, worthless, and incapable of being "saved." and you know what this does? it makes us hide. we dont get help for our symptoms, we get worse, we end up killing ourselves at a young age. just because we cope with trauma in a different way. and some people will see that people diagnosed with personality disorders have a high mortality rate and they'll smile and feel glad.
im just. there are books about borderline abuse. websites dedicated on how to hurt narcissists. every serial killer and politician and abuser ever is called a sociopath. histronics don't ever even get mentioned unless ppl are looking for a reason to misogynistic. and this is just cluster b. cluster a and c are usually never mentioned, and are just ignored.
without a seconds thought or care, people who claim to be mental health advocates will treat ppl with pds like shit. and when we try to tell them real people are diagnosed with these disorders, real people are affected by this, ppl without pds will sit and whine "but i was abusedddd !! im traumatizedddd!!! what about meeeeee?!!!"
its fucking hard having a personality disorder. like, surprise surprise, mental illness is fucking exhausting and disabling. we have to make sure we keep our intense emotions to ourself so we dont scare people away, we have to try and keep our mental illness under control so we dont end up hurt, and then we have to hear people call us terrible, terrible things, accuse us of being abusive just by fucking existing. and its like holy shit. do none of you even hear yourselves. can none of you tell how terrible you are. do you really think you're the ones in the right in this situation.

A reasonable point! I interpret the original Tweet to be less of a push towards extreme collectivism and more a push back against the Western (and especially the US-American) idea that doing everything without help is the epitome of success. That's how you get stories about billionaires supposedy single-handedly becoming wealthy through hard work, even though they wouldn't be where they are without the help of thousands of workers.
And even past the capitalist work aspect, we humans rarely ever do anything truly alone, nor were we meant to. Living is a collaborative effort, and that's what these Tweets especially emphasise - we all inherently come from communities, from cultures, from some sort of collective, and we should remember that.

i think one of the reasons the psych critical movement is so important to me is because in many ways, this is what i needed more than anything as a suicidal teen with suicidal friends. the biggest barrier to me getting support in high school was mandatory reporting laws around self harm and suicide. there were no adults in my life that I could trust while I was in high school, and I knew that even if I did talk to my school counselor about suicide, my parents would find out and likely the cops would become involved. neither of those things were risks I could handle as a trans teen in an abusive situation.
if i had been able to talk to a counselor without them reporting me? if there had been a local crisis hotline that didn’t do active rescue with police? I probably would have been able to access support before I started attempting suicide regularly. instead, all I had to reference was shitty lessons from my high school health classes that presented the warning signs of suicide and then told us to talk to a trusted adult if we knew anyone experiencing them. you can imagine how helpful that was for me and my group of queer friends who were experiencing not just mental health distress, but also extremely unstable home lives.
i cannot emphasize enough how much there was no support that I could actually access–adults in my life refused to acknowledge the reality that there were teens who were doing peer to peer suicide support, instead just telling us over and over to talk to an adult. as a teen, i needed resources that addressed my reality as a traumatized suicidal teen trying my best to keep myself and my friends alive. i needed someone to help me figure out mental health first aid skills, harm reduction, crisis intervention, boundary setting, and so much more.. i needed resources that enabled self advocacy and peer to peer support without expert input, even as a young teen. most of all,  i needed resources that were not involved with police, pysch incarceration, and instituional control.
through the psych critical movement i’ve found a lot of those things and see people who are advocating for the structural changes that would have completely changed my life as a teen. it makes me cry sometimes, seeing the care and love that fellow mad/mentally ill/neurodivergent people are putting into building a better world for us.
we keep us safe <3

Anti-trans bills are unfortunately not the only thing at play here. I promise I don't mean this in an argumentative way, but please please also remember that Eden Knight was an immigrant. Eden was a Saudi woman who was exploited by both Saudis and Usamericans. They lied to and tricked her so that they could force her back to her unsupportive family in Saudi, where she was forced to detransition and ultimately died.
It’s true that the anti-trans bills in the US are horrible, and I am not diminishing that, but Eden also feared seeking help in the US because she was undocumented and afraid of being deported. The people who exploited her knew this and used false promises about helping her with her immigration status. The United States’ hostility to nonwhite immigrants directly contributed to the circumstances that pushed Eden away from the life she had made in the US, and that is also unacceptable.
الله يرحمها وتعازينا الحارة. (May she rest in peace, our deepest condolences.)
a few days ago, a trans woman named eden knight killed herself after her parents forced her to detransition. this is the future that kids in america will face with all these new bills coming out, and it should not be tolorated.

I also just want to point out that “transracial” as a descriptor was stolen from transracial adoptees and foster kids. In its original use, it refers to people who were adopted or fostered by people of a different race and is (or was) largely used by people of colour who were adopted by white people. Transracial adoptees and fosters use the word to talk about their struggles growing up cut off from their heritages and being raised by people who think they mean well but often have white-saviour complexes.
Adoptees and foster kids, especially those of colour, are already left out of so many discussions, and it is appalling that racist white people have stolen one of the few words they had to talk about their experiences.
TransX is not the same as trans and nonbinary folks. gender is not comparable to race, ability, or age. trace, transabled, transage are just fake madeup troll things and the people trying to use them as an identity on tumblr is why yall on this site wont amount to shit. There is a reason yall are seen as cringe and liars. it would be laughable if it wasnt so disrespectful to real struggle.
leave your rooms. get a hobby. get a job. read a book. stop making up identities. it is transphobic as fuck and racist and pedo-ish as fuck. My partner and our future kids could be shot for being black. my native friends have been abused for who they are. People suffering with disabilities dont get choose to function in an ableist society whenever they feel like it. Trans-age is just creepy and yall know that. y’all are trifling disrespectful bitches for real.
like who hurt and traumatized you that you need to identify as twenty different things for attention. Some white guilt, attention-hoe type shit

just cause i’m mad about it
caring about someone and the concept of love do not equal each other, you can care about someone and not love them
i can care about the well being of people i’ve just met or hardly know or even strangers but i don’t love them , and i guarantee those who argue you have to love the people you care about have instances where they don’t
being loveless and having friends and family can be rough because of the expectation to love them but it’s not required to care about the people around you , and just for the record you don’t have to care about everyone around you to be a good person, that can be exhausting and doesn’t come naturally to everyone, give yourself a break

Also I think we need to get rid of the idea that therapy is just a paid bestie for you to vent at because like therapy is so much more than ranting to someone it's challenging your internal cognitive disconnects and replacing maladaptive coping mechanisms and a whole bunch of other stuff and involves you putting in as much work as the therapist but I feel like that part is lost on people
