The plastic bag book is just so clever. You could actually carry it around like a bag. I like the illusions of these pieces. They’re just fun.

ISO5O studio. This is an album cover for Leon Vynehall. I havent experimented with editing an image in such a way, but I love the distortion here. It looks like everything is caving in on itself, changing teh meaning of the image complete. Turning an image showing a mundane activity (going to work?) into something chaotic and dangerous.

Tim Hetherington WHat i like most about this image is the lack of a real person. There a contrast between outside and inside - war a a safe heaven, a taste of home and normality. The colour difference between inside and outside heightens this too - warm and cold.

Tim Hetherington This image strikes me because what is happening in teh place is not matching up with the actions in the image. It’s so obscure.

Tim Hetherington. His war photography is striking. What i liek most about this image is the slanted landscape to one side and the guy leaning to the opposite side. It’s off balance. It’s uneasy. But, a really nice illustration of a person’s relationship with teh environment they are in.

I’m drawn in by the obscure shapes mounted on the body and the shapes made with the body itself. The muted colours of just using black and white are very striking too.

Artist- Max Hattler
Inspiration for my gif project. I love how this piece is based around the basic idea of a circle, but there are lots of different parts doing their own things. Makes a great, interesting pattern. Like a kaleidoscope. EVen though there are so many different things going the piece is always balanced - its not cluttered or too busy.

Artist - Nils Voelker For my gif project i took major inspiration from this piece. My responce was based around breathing and i thought an inflating and deflating plastic bag would capture 'breath’ beautifully. Voelkers work was obviously an installation, but i could explore the plastic bag digitally.

Artist - Eric Rose. These shots really show a mysterious element to the subjects. Theres a complexiny to their characters, but in both there is some kind of obstruction/ abstraction in each image which distances them from you. They are made to be inaccessible.

Artist - Fabian Weiss.
Was looking at this for my motherhood project. Weiss’ work explores the culture around the subject rather than the subject itself.
I think this is most likely to be shown through a series of images rather than a single images. Sometimes quanity is important to get the whole picture. But what i like about these selections of images is the connection each mother has with the child. We are seeing that same love in different tones. It gives it depth.

Artist - Erwin Wurm
In his book The Artist Who Swallowed the World (Hatje Cantz) Wurm said: “I am interested in the everyday life. All the materials that surrounded me could be useful, as well as the objects, topics involved in contemporary society. My work speaks about the whole entity of a human being: the physical, the spiritual, the psychological and the political.” Making everyday stuff absurd.

Artist - Wolfgang Tillmans This series is called Fragility, and its all about showing fragility as strength. What i admire about this series is that not all the images have a human focal point - so i feel Tillmans is exploring this idea in a more open way. (fly on crab) The one with the deer - the content and narrative is beautiful. Such a clear story being shown - the deer’s trust in the human.

What draws my attention to these photos is the pastel colour palette and the textures in the images. They are so other worldly and surreal - i feel like i am being taken somewhere fantasical. There is a softness throughout al these images.

Artist - Brooke DiDonato
What i like most about Didonato’s photography is the mystery of the people in the images. The ways the bodies are shown - it’s difficult to relate to them, but it’s intriguing. There is a very conscious choice in her palette for each image - everything is considered. For example, the red shoes in the last image is what grabs your attention first - if these shoes were black or navy the figures position would not be as striking.

"I wanted to draw attention to the fact that our genderqueer and trans brothers and sisters are so much more likely to experience physical violence: worldwide, transgender murders increased by 20% in 2012." - Cassils In this exhibition Cassils attacks a lump of clay in the dark for 20mins.
This person has put so much effort into making their body strong, that the whole piece evoke so much pain and emotion. The message in this piece is clear - and thats where the power in it is.
