Hostel Choosing Tips:

What to look for when choosing a hostel:

- Type of Rooms: Dorms or private. Mixed or separated by gender. Bigger rooms with more beds are cheaper, and are a good way of getting to know fellow travellers. If you are travelling in a group, large dorms will not seem so bad. You can often get good deals on private rooms off season.

- Location: Check location of the hostel, make sure you don’t lose too much time getting too and from it. Make sure the neighbourhood is good and safe.

- Bathrooms: Check how many people share the bathroom and make sure you are comfortable with it.

- Bed linen: Make sure your linen is given to your for free. Some hostels have an extra charge for linen and/or a towel.

- Free Breakfast: Perfect if your on a budget, you can even make sandwiches for lunch with left-overs. They may also offer cheap lunch and dinner options.

- Kitchen: Save money by purchasing from supermarkets and making meals at the hostel.

- Bar: Some hostels have cheap bars downstairs, not only good for cheap drinks but also socialising with fellow travellers.

- Lockers: Safe storage for your bags and valuables. Some hostels have large lockers for your whole bag, overs have small ones for valuables.

- Storage: Some hostels will hold your luggage if you have time before your next journey. 

- Free Wifi: Save money on phone data, by checking your messages from the hostel.

- Opening hours: Check if the hostel closes and when. If your planning on having a night out or get have a late or early train, you are better off with a hostel with a 24 hour reception.

- Washing Machines and Dryers

- Events or Attractions: Your hostel may host bar crawls or organise excursions for you

- Staff: Check reviews to see if the staff was friendly and helpful, it makes your time much easier when staff recommends places to visit or eat. Saves going to a tourist office.

- Pay: Make a note to whether the hostel only accepts cash payments.

You can check all of these things via their websites, on hostel booking sites, reviews and blogs.

Extra bits to take:

- Padlocks: Not only to lock your bag, but to secure your bag to your bed if no locker is available. If so make sure it has a longer shackle to fit through the frame.

- Cushion: You may want to take a travel cushion, not only for trains, but for extra comfort in your hostel.

- Tupperware: You can make pack lunches at your hostel to take on the road. You might even want to take a small thermos flask for hot drinks or soup.

- Adaptor and extension lead

- Flipflops: To wear in communal showers.

I was having problems with videos that I took, They were upside down or sideways, anyone know how to turn videos? Or should I just record them again? 

Rubric Grading: 

Your documentary film must be 3 - 7 minutes long.                    Yes. Around 4 minutes now. Will be around 6 minutes with the  extra scenes I need to add. 

It must include: - at least 3 sound aspects (6 pts.)                     -only one so far. Going to add music in the background during certain scenes (particularly the title or credits), I’m also going to add a voice over which will add another sound. 

- at least 2 image modes (4 pts.)                  - Yes. Photos and video. Video in moving car. Stationary video of the backpack and other objects. 

 - some organizing narrative structure, e.g. build up, conflict, resolution (3 pts.)                    - Not really present yet. Once the voice over is there, the video will move in a more structured way. 

 - title and credits or citations (2 pts.)                        Not yet. 

- response to three of yours peers’ films posted to the appropriate forum by the correct deadline (3 pts.)                        - Later
