You’ve been trying so hard to plan out things for your parents’ gardening market. They said you were on duty and were counting on you. Just that one sentence was enough to motivate, but also overwork you. If you didn’t please them, who knows what’ll happen? Of course you knew. They’d hate you. At least, that’s what you thought.

You were sitting on Camilo’s desk at around 8:12 p.m. You stood at the Madrigal’s because your desk at home was already overflowing with piles upon piles of scrapped concepts and ideas, but also ones that were rough drafts and final products. You were tired, oh so tired. But did you care? No. You just kept on trucking, maybe then, you’d receive something back. Like a hug or pat on the head.

That’s what you strived for.

After hours of chewing on your pencil and having crumpled up papers around you, you heard a knock at the door, “(N/N)! Can I come innn?” Camilo sang. The voice immediately lit you up. You nodded as if he saw, “Of course, sweets! Come in!” You beamed. The handle was turned, and Camilo came in and his mouth almost dropped by the sight of you.

Messy hair, drooping eyebags, your beat-up and trembling hands from gripping your pencil so hard. “Dude, what’re you doing?” He scrambled towards you, prying you away from all your stuff. “Wh— Hey! What do you mean? I’m just working,” You said. “Just working? Look at you! You’ve been at it for hours,” He said. You blinked. Hours? Wow, it seemed like you weren’t trying enough or long enough.

You dropped your head down in shame, exhaling, “I’m sorry. Did you think I was avoiding you?” You asked. Camilo sighed and climbed on his bed with you, “I did, at first. But it isn’t your fault. Don’t think I’m scolding you either,” He laughed. You shook your head no with a smile. “Good, ‘cause I don’t want my lovely—,” He began, grabbing your face hard and smooching it tremendously.

“Stooppp!” You giggled, “—absolute darling boyfriend to feel so bad!” The curly-haired boy teased. He let go and laughed, wrapping you in an actual embrace this time. “But seriously. Take a break, (N/N). What’s making you wanna do all this work?” He asked. You finally leaned back onto his pillow and tried to rest, “My parents… They didn’t make me. Didn’t even say I had to do all this. I just don’t wanna disappoint them,” You confessed. Camilo looked at you with worry. Has he been feeling like this ever since last week, when he started overworking himself?

“Aw… Mi Vida,” Camilo began. He wrapped his arms around your waist and let you lightly nuzzle his shoulder. “I’m so sorry. I know how it feels, trust me,” He smiles. He gave you that talk before. His entire family used to be put under a lot of pressure thanks to his Abuela Alma. You don’t hate her, of course. But what she did was kinda sucky, so you tend to keep your distance from her but to the point where it isn’t noticeable.

“Rest now, please,” He said, almost like a demand. You shook your head drowsily, “No, no… I need to…” You yawned. Camilo started putting you under your pillows and just pushed all the crumpled papers onto the floor. “I need…to…” You fluttered your eyes shut. Camilo smirked and went under the covers, holding you like a stuffed animal. He pressed his lips against your forehead, “Rest, mi amor. Goodnight,” He said softly, pulling down on his lamp’s string to turn it off with a click.

guys. okay. my Encanto familia. Here’s a deep dive into Pepa’s room. BECAUSE HER ROOM MATCHES HER GIFT. here’s what I found!

WALL DECOR

Her wallpaper is raindrops! And the tiles on the wall and floor are rain and the sun. And she has green and blue earthy colors of course, for the weather!

Also there’s even a shadow for her cloud on the walls.

Next for her wall decor, her lampshade is a cloud lampshade with rain drop beads!

FLOWERS! Pepa’s room has this pot of flowers. It took me a while to figure out what these flowers are, but they are Common Zinnia flowers! They are native to Mexico but has been naturalized all over Central America, including Colombia! Y’all won’t even be shocked to find out what they symbolize…

they symbolize LASTING AFFECTION. and what TWO characters in Encanto literally embody lasting affection? PEPA AND FELIX. these little details. my God.

also the colors of the flower coordinate with Pepa’s side of the family!

HER FURNITURE:

This thing on her nightstand is a combination of a windvane and an anemometer. these are typically on sailboats. a windvane measures wind direction and a anemometer measures wind speed. both of these are meteorological instruments for….telling the weather!

And during this scene, when Pepa starts thundering, they spin!!!!!

Next on her furniture, her chair!

Her chair has many little features. On the top of it, it has two clouds on the top handles. The it has a big cloud in the middle with rain drop streams and a big lightning bolt. Then a blue pillow with subtle cloud shapes.

And lastly, Pepa’s teapot! Her teapot set has raindrops and suns on them.

Props to you, disney. These details are so specific and I appreciate how much effort they put into bringing their characters to life. Fucking phenomenal. I love and appreciate pepa<3

Random Encanto HCs that popped into my head throughout the day.

- Camilo says “choccy milk” unironically

- Felix sings quietly to Pepa when her storms get really bad. it always works like a charm

- Luisa LOVES tea. any and every kind of tea. it really just helps her relax and take her mind off of everything. she even makes her own too

- sections of Dolores’ room are sound proof so if she ever gets sensory overload she can just stay in that section of her room

- Antonio likes to explore how big his room is but he’s nervous about getting lost because one time, when Camilo and Mirabel were exploring with him , Camilo was goofing off and decided to wonder off and he got lost. it took all day and the whole family to find him. so now whenever Antonio goes exploring he ties red string or other bright things on stuff so he can find his way back

- (not really a headcanon but they didn’t say it was canon so 🤷🏽) Agustín is definitely allergic to bees.

- Isabela keeps her carnivorous plants in a very special place in her room and literally babies them 24/7. always making sure they have the right amount of sunlight and water, fed on schedule, ect. ect.

- Mirabel has hand embroidered skirts and shirts for everyone in her family. (sometimes on special days, like her birthday, all the Madrigals wear/carry the things she has made for them to surprise her)

- Bruno, Antonio, Mirabel, and Dolores (and sometimes Pepa and Felix) watch the rat telenovelas together. (sometimes the rates come up with their own too and Antonio translates for everyone so they know what’s happening. the rats stories are always very moving. a lot of crying will be happening)

- (we know this already but) Camilo is genderfluid.

people who demonize abuela alma don't understand or have never experienced generational trauma and if you turn her into the villain, you totally missed the point of the movie in this essay i will

Encanto Spoilers

I am so tired of people bringing the movie down for "not being healthy" and claiming it shows domestic abuse as okay.

The entire scene at the river is two people having a healthy conversation about their misunderstandings. Alma explains her trauma and actions to Mirabel, while admitting she has been wrong and forgotten the important things in life while upholding a standard way too high for anyone to meet. At the same time Mirabel admits that she never understood her abuela or her actions before knowing this trauma. She admits that not everything that went wrong is Alma's fault, but all that they are thankful for is her earning too. It is basically two long "I was wrong and I understand why now."

No one is the villain. The movie is a picture of what happens in so many families: misundestandings. Not understanding each other. Everyone fights for the same goal, the family, but they use different strategies, and then misunderstandings happen.

Alma is 60 when Mirabel is born. How is a 15 year old just gonna understand someone who has experienced so many years' pain, loss and growing before she even took her first breath? And how would a 75 year old understand a young girl who never experienced the true danger of life, because she was raised with everything Alma never had?

I'm sorry, but the plot is so deep and mature. Don't make Alma the villain just because you have trouble forgiving. Not every disagreement have a winner. Sometimes both sides are wrong, and they grow from that.

Encanto Spoilers!

Just a theory. 

I’ve seen multiple theories about Mirabel and why she didn’t get a gift. A lot mention her as the new candle holder, but the candle never returned after they rebuild the casita as far as I remember? 

I have also seen theories that she didn’t get a gift, because she wiped her hands off on her dress before touching the door. What if she in that moment tranferred the “gift” to herself, making her the new miracle? 

After they lose the candle, they wouldn’t have an outlet for the miracle. Unless maybe Mirabel is the new outlet? She didn’t have a door before the ending of the movie when she appeared on the front door of casita. Maybe her role as the new candle started then, after the other candle burned up? It could be a symbol of Mirabel starting to take her place as the miracle, and Alma stepping down as the candle holder?
