Hello everyone!
My name is Daniyar Temirbekov.
Finally, I have to return back to the Tumblr because I would like to share my autobiographical journal entries in a multimodal and creative way. Tumblr has all the features of internet blog where I can use a multimodal approach to share my musical examples and illustrate my musical memories.
“Where words fail, music speaks” - Hans Christian Andersen.
Warm welcome!

For you my dear reader ☺
Since it is up to me to decide what I would like to do with my blog, which is a fantastic opportunity to create something original and show another side of myself.
I am going to write eight entries about my musical development while I was growing up. Besides, I would like to share some musical examples with the help of Tumblr's multimodal approach. I want to share several musical examples for better associations with my entries, which would be more convenient for my reader to relate it with something that they already knew or it will be something new to "discover."

Entry “Infancy”
Music appeared in my life long before I learned to distinguish between different styles and trends, learned about the work of great composers and musicians. The first melody, I remember so far, was my mother's lullaby. My mother softly sang "la-la-la," and her musical tunes reassured me and, probably, marked the beginning of my attitude towards music. This early acquaintance with music for me played a meaningful role as a stage for the life-long role as a potent emotional regulator. Moreover, exposure to maternal singing may also influence music perception and production in infancy. I am grateful to my family that they spent a lot of time on my development. Parents often sang a lot of songs in different languages, read fairy tales and poems. If they had not made an enormous contribution to me as a child, probably now I would not be so strongly connected with music. Besides, I want to note that my grandmother also made an incredible contribution to my musical development, since I spent most of my childhood with her. She likes to sing in our native language, and it was unforgettably amazing.

I want to share one of my childhood memories which is connected to my folk music, and especially to the instrument "dombra," the sounds of which reminds me of home. The dombra is a long-necked lute and a musical two-stringed instrument. My family does not have any musicians or people who know how to play on musical instruments, but the dombra was always in our house, and anyone can have a chance to play on it. I still can remember myself as a small child who cannot even speak. However, I have an image in my head where I took this instrument in my hands and tried to play on it, but it did not go well at all. The relations between the dombra and the people are still very stable. The instrument itself is one of the important parts of any holiday or ceremony celebration that is held quite often. To this day, people hold competitions, concerts, performances with the participation of the dombra. It is interesting to note that during boarding time of our national airline company, in the cabin of the aircraft, you can hear the folk melody with dombra on the background. It is also possible that this particular music reminds me of home and childhood whenever I go on a flight. Besides, there is a legend about the acquisition of the dombra of the modern look says that earlier the dombra was with five strings and without a hole in the middle. The history of this instrument is closely connected with the musical life of the Kazakh people, its history and way of life. Dombra calms me, and I like to listen to it when I get homesick.

I want to share one of the crucial moments in life when I realized that music is not only for pleasure or entertainment. In fact, for the sake of music, people can give a lot of important things that are precious to them in this life, for instance, the time. I have not known, how much someone needs to spend on their musical development and how it is difficult and time-consuming. However, with hard work and effort, you can achieve most of the things, and I was the lucky one to share this “reward” with my childhood friend. My best childhood friend was studying the piano, as his parents were quite famous in the world of music, regarding knowing how to play on several instruments. During free time, he practiced his skills again and again and improved them day after day. I admire his skills and knowledge on how to play on the piano because even today I can see my best friend playing and his passion for music. When I was around 12 years old, we were huge fans of Linkin Park band. After some time, he learned their song on the piano and played them for me. It was a wonderful and fascinating memory when my best friend made me such a surprise that I did not expect to hear. We went through a lot with him, we have changed many common interests, hobbies, sports, even video games. It was he who first began to create music on the computer and explore his skills. The part of my early musical development during that time was associated with my best friend, who opened me another side of the musical world. We only can see each other on holidays, because we are living in different countries.

Entry "Childhood”
Our music teacher had a lot of rules regarding learning activities. Each lesson we repeated the same chorus songs, but she introduced more and more new songs, one after another, while playing them on the piano. From the beginning of the year to the end, our brain learned a considerable number of songs in different languages, singing with accompaniment, and the most important thing is that we could sing them a whole lesson long. This memory from elementary school and especially the music teacher herself helped me to relax and enjoy the music while I was sitting with my classmates in the same room. She taught that music could be shared and enjoyed with others. Music as a social-cultural phenomenon belongs to humanity, so we also can enjoy it together with others. It is interesting to note that my school was one of the prestige international school back in town, so there were a lot of students from other countries. Even though we had some kind of cultural and racial diversity in our musical classroom, we were all singing together as one. Besides, someone was better at singing, someone not, but everyone enjoyed their time to learn music in elementary school. However, in the middle school, I met one of the wonderful teacher, who demanded from us even more effort towards the musical self-development. Later in middle school, I remember how she did some music quizzes to test our knowledge on different musical compositions. She taught us how to distinguish between all months of "The Four Seasons" by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi by randomly playing them during a lesson so that we can have our bonus marks.

My personal favorite season in “The Four Seasons” by Vivaldi is Winter. Although I was born in summer and I love warm weather, which is not related to music preference at all, but "Winter" is associated with my personal worldview and my internal emotional state.

Entry “Adolescence”
One clear musical memory that I have related to my youth was when I got my first cell phone. It was a brand new fancy old Motorola. However, it was one of the best phones back then. My classmates and I used an audio recording option to record our favorite songs from Radio, TVs or even from other cell phones while the music was playing. I had a lot of recording of songs in different languages, even some classical music as well. The only issue was the capacity of memory cards was extremely poor, so I was not able to have more than my memory limited. In other words, I had to choose what kind of music I can have on my cell phone so that I can enjoy it the most. It was my start for collecting and selecting new songs, artists or bands. I was so curious about different genres and styles so I cannot stop myself from exploring the world of music. It is the greatest enjoyment for me to have such an opportunity to choose music with my own preferences, anytime when I need it. It is fantastic when someone has a choice to select his or her way of entertainment. Most of the music that I choose, I found it using technology, for instance, smartphones, computers and especially the Internet, where I can find most of the information and music by myself. Even today, it is one of the essential aspects of my musical development because I am still searching and looking for something new or old in different musical compositions or songs that can match my inner-state.

With the development of technology, I have started to listen to music in different ways. Usually, when I am in public places, I always have headphones with me. However, at home, I try not to listen to music with headphones because I prefer to use speakers for it so my ears can take a rest.
Here is an example of the speaker, which I personally use for a long time.
It is interesting to note that it was a gift from my Grandmother when I was studying at high school and more importantly, she chose it by herself.

Music is still one of the most favorite ways of entertainment. Especially, I love and adore listening to my favorite performers, singers or bands. Today, music plays almost everywhere where possible, however, this experience is way more different from live performances, concerts, festivals, and so on. In my life, I had visited dozens of concerts, especially when I flew to North America, where such an event is common, or at least you have higher chances to attend a show of famous singers. The idea of interaction with others people while listening to your favorite music is such a unique experience. A massive crowd of people, they are all singing or screaming out loud, and their energy is flying in the air, which someone could feel and even enjoy during the performance. I had a chance to visit concerts of my favorite singers live. However, I will not stop only on one or two concerts. I want to keep attending them because of the positive energy, fascinating specter of emotions, inner-feelings, and most important is music that should always play. Besides, it is a social activity, entertainment, and enjoyment at the same time. Now singers do not only sing on stage, but they also have a performance, for instance, dance show and most importantly they are talking with their audience.
In my blog, I would like to share some of my video fragments that I filmed during the concerts. Although it is difficult to convey it in words or even by video, it will be way more clear if you go there and see it by yourself.

Music is an excellent way of entertainment, lovely assistant in mood regulation and an integral part of nowadays society. As a separate art form, music has already managed to obtain the hearts and minds of many people in the past and present. However, music is more than just entertainment or an emotional regulator. I believe, since kindergarten, I have always participated in all sorts of performances, concerts, dances, and have often been on the stage. However, listening to the melody and dancing at the same time on the scene was a big issue for me. It took me many years to develop my hearing while dancing and music listening skills got better with practice as well. Since most songs have not only a unifying poetic text but also a melody that should have special attention. Back in high school, my favorite dance teachers told us that music could come to life. He taught us through his creative vision and opened new doors in the music world of dances. He explained to me that it is essential to listen to music very carefully because it consists not only of words but the melody. It is crucial to hear the tune itself, because of its subtleties and beauty, which I can convey in my dance moves. My teacher taught us to listen to different types of music, so our hearing could faster adapt to the variety of melodies, which was a crucial step forward for my musical development. The most important aspect was that we were given a lot of time to improvise, play with music, demonstrate personal skills, style and movement. When I listen to music, I am trying to break down musical composition on sounds and find out the components of it. It has become like a habit for me since music and dance became one whole. In my opinion, an idea behind musical compositions can be conveyed through actions like dancing and performing.

Entry “Aging”
I have probably mentioned it many times, or it was not difficult to notice, but music has surrounded me from birth to this day. However, I do not think this is my limit, and I want to discover more music, especially in other languages or cultures. In the begging of my musical development, I was very attached to the meaning of the songs. I have always been curious about an idea or a message between the lines of a song because usually, authors or songwriters want to tell their audience something valuable and personal in music. I believe that internal emotions, feelings can be conveyed in any language through music. However, to accept and understand it, I had to go through several stages of development in my life.
During my "growing up" in the music world, I categorically refused to listen to music in a language that I do not know. My explanation was simple: "I did not understand it." However, my sister said that music in any language has the same meaning, so we need to find out what language it is and translate. Probably, in the era of the current level of technology, it does not sound so complicated. However, before that, it was not a piece of cake at all, so we accepted our challenge through language barriers with my sister. I adore and love my sister because she raised me in creative ways, but this experience was kind of nightmare or a masquerade. We were digging into different cultures, countries, nations and looked for their films, art, music, history. It was a worldwide tour in the library or at home with a lot of books, movies, music cassettes, etc. After some time, music on social networks has become extremely popular, so people gathered various groups and communities around different musical directions, cultures, and styles. We created a public group in one of the social networks, where we posted thematic music and made up playlists of different genres and styles of musical art. My sister and I tried to show people different sides of the musical world that most likely they had not heard about before. For us, it was like a hobby and a great joy that our selections and taste helped people to enjoy music, relax, love and learn something new about it. I am thankful to my beloved sister that showed me that the music could be so different. However, its emotions and feelings can be conveyed in any language. Everyone has their music preferences, which is beautiful and fascinating in its own way.
