Ink breaking off into fragments and photographed
The ink forms can't seem to maintain the shapes they're moulded into. Perhaps I will go into using graphic novel pages themselves that already involve ink.

Beginning Paper Folds
In order to develop the project further I began to experiment with paper aswell, I have developed this by folding the paper into forms that seem to catch light in an interesting way making more a richer composition.

As the ink solidifies it can be spread in thick layers much like paint which makes the varieties of it's uses more extensive.

Giving life to ink
In an attempt to add further depth to an aspect of comics I wanted to change the properties of ink to maybe make it more sculptural. By adding flour to the ink it gained a richer texture and tried quicker and in a variety of thicknesses

Ant Colony - Michael DeForge
Ant Colony is a panel graphic novel, short stories compiled into a singular book. Ant Colony plays off the troubles of Ant's but portraits them with human struggles and quirky humour. The vibrant colours used present such a unique reading experience as the visuals contrast with the dark and realistic views of the characters we view throughout the narrative. As it stood out I wonder whether I could incorporate a vibrant colour to a complex scene.

Pimp my .... Graphic Novels
Graphic Novels have always been a passion of mine. My love thriving from as young as 8, devouring DC and Marvel comics primarily. I believe what makes Graphic Novels so special is the power they maintain, or more specifically the power of the narratives they share. The complex characters, the motives, the protagonists fight in one way or another.
I suppose fight may be overgeneralisation... a protagonist is made so because they miss something. They search for something or someone who has wronged them, or search for an object they need or may need to just accept their situation through exploration of the world they live in. The world an illustrator has imagined for them to make a point. To share a perspective on certain subject matters.
For example; Bruce Wayne's parents being murdered before his eyes caused him to shut off from the world. This understatement of such an iconic character references the need for one to grieve, to accept naturally the circumstances they've been plundered into. As this wasn't the case Wayne grew vengeful and created an alter ego by which he could search for his parents killers and avenge them. Of course , saving his city in the process from other creatures of circumstance.
This has been my view from childhood, I don't see masked heroes in spandex swinging from buildings lighthearted fighting crime. I see characters which have become victims of circumstance.
People that have been forced into responsibility, that have undergone great torments or circumstances that required them to change their perspective and the way they live their very lives.  I find this to be so powerful and helpful throughout my life. Of course the cool powers ranging from the x-men (a personal favourite) to the complex debates that 'Ghost in the shell' has raised about the laws of consciousness are also extremely interesting to me but the fun resides in seeing deeper.

Protest Brief
Throughout the course of our set brief my group has looked at  the complexity of Terms and conditions deceiving us into signing away personal information. We come to selecting our focused subject matter through a series of discussions; sharing and feeding off of each others creativity to develop an initial concept. Through this method we came up with ‘Designed to be ignored’, an exploration of how Terms and conditions are designed to be taxing to read through and draining to look at.
The above are images of our finished protest. Using signs made from intersecting lines to protest outside the apple store; a main culprit of using taxing wording to manipulate us. The intersecting lines mimicking the taxing aesthetic of terms and conditions.
