in phrygia alexander the great came upon two oxen tied to one another with a rope, running tirelessly in circles. they were literally tied to nothing except each other, and as they ran they looked sort of like a whirlwind, or the blade part of a blender. alexander said to a townsman "why are these oxen tied together" and the townsman said "i dont know". alex (thats what his friends called him) said "what will happen if anybody undoes this knot" and the townsman, now visibly annoyed, said "i literally Do not know." there was an implicit 'so stop asking' attached, & big lexi (thats what i call him) was socially adroit enough to catch that. so he stepped toward the spinning heap of ungulate and drew his sword and to be honest he flinched several times while trying to psych himself up to cut the rope. he was scared of hitting one of the oxen (stupid plural ftr). anyway he finally did it, he cut the rope and the oxen kept running, they just kept running in circles at a perfectly even pace like satellites around an invisible point. and xander (nobody calls him that) said to the townsman "why are they doing that" and the townsman gave hima nasty look thta said it all. and the oxen kept running.
MORAL: the oxen can be used to model a rudimentary n-body problem

Just digitized a new Piko BR 191!
The 191s were built for the Deutsche Reichsbahn in three batches between 1924 and 1927, and were designed to haul trains of up to 1,200 tonnes on 10% grades on the rough railways of the Barvarian and Silesian mountains. The class was very successful, and the Barvarian examples served until the 1970s under Deutsche Bundesbahn. The prototype of this model, number 191 098, was part of the last batch built in 1927, differentiated from earlier models by improved traction motors and different arrangement of vents, and was retired in 1974.
Although I haven’t installed a speaker yet, the rattling dc motor does a decent job of emulating the original.

Rome actually was built in a day. But nobody knew about it because it took them a lot longer to make even one road lead to Rome

I do enjoy it when a game is clearly trying to use a wildly inappropriate pre-built game engine for what it wants to do, but I don't see why RPG Maker should have all the fun. Do grid-based tactical combat in Inform. Write a rhythm game in Twine. Implement that precision puzzle platformer in Ren'Py. You know you want to.

while I was staying at hilbert's hotel I went down to their infinite casino and basically they had these machines where you could bet increasingly absurdly large sums of money to gain a respectively increasing yet always arbitrary slight chance to win infinite money and blaise pascal was leaning over one of them dead eyed muttering "just one more spin"

Seed investing at 2 notes.
I think once a post on tumblr gets a certain amount of notes - somewhere in the 250k range - it should be automatically deleted. One way or another we shall be free of the past

yeah so my university got in trouble with the Platonists for the Ethical Treatment of Abstractions. yeah, for catching eternal forms in the immaterial realm and vivisecting them to discover their hidden properties. apparently nowadays people think this is “barbaric” and “cruelty to eternal entities,” but i dunno. when I was an undergrad you couldn’t get your degree without slicing up a commutative ring or a high-dimensional polytope in the mathematics lab. it’s gross, but you develop a strong stomach real quick. the smell doesn’t leave you, though. blood mixed with pure nous. they quiver when the scalpel sinks into them. I mean they don’t feel pain so it’s fine. at least that’s what they always told us. what would they even feel it with? I’m pretty sure it’s fine. not everybody is cut out to be a mathematician. but how else are you going to make progress in the field?
