Desire and decorum is fun, just finished book 1 and I have to say: why would the grandmother stick her nose in business after we tell her we have things handled. Like it would be one thing if our prospects were iffy and she was very concerned about the estate. But she outright says she has eyes in the city and has been watching the MC enough to know whether they lie to her when she confronts them about rumors that they've been interacting with men unchaperoned (I was waiting for it to become a plotpoint).
So she should be well aware there are at least 3 men vying for the hand of her granddaughter 2 of them being nobility, one of them a prince. And that's not even including Mr Chambers if you go for Miss Parson's romance. Like those are some good prospects. She made it clear she was upset that her husband ruined the happiness of her son all for status, and yet she whips around and ignores the explicit statements of discomfort and distress her granddaughter vocalizes about a man who nearly assaults her and arranges a marriage.
"You deserve to be a duchess" lady we just needed to marry to maintain our hold on the estate. Now you had to go and make a mess just to grab power we didn't need which will lead to drama because now you've angered and ostracized your grandchild from you.
#desire and decorum#play choices#i was doing the hamid route and got so wrapped up in how sweet and romantic the garden scene was#that the rage i felt upon the grandmother's meddling sent me into the stratosphere

Me playing desire and decorum: oops. I picked an option that seemed harmless but raised Miss Parson's romance. Well should be fine, I don't plan on going for her and it was nothing
The game: you and her are secretly a thing now
Me:????? I said I was glad she helped me learn piano?
#we jumped right to the forbidden lovers conclusion it seems and i didn't mean for that to happen#play choices#desire and decorum#ramblings

One more bloodbound note: I love that the devs kept screaming at players that any physical relationship with Priya was a bad idea. Its so fucking funny to me. Like it doesn't matter how hot she is she will still murder you. Go crazy but understand consequences will be swift.

Replaying Bloodbound: honestly it is so funny to me that the writers were like "yeah all the older vampires were evil at some point. Adrien was basically an attack dog for Gaius, but we draw the line at making him racist." They really said you can't force us to make a former confederate soldier out of our love interests and I respect them for it.
#choices bloodbound#bloodbound#give me more bloodbound/nightbound universe books man its such a fun setting#i love all the love interests in both books#they just made him a union soldier and left it at that#rip to the dumb confederate vampire trope adrien was just built different#also hearing him talk about his wife and son made me so sad

After playing a few of them, I think the thing that makes the solo love interest books less enjoyable in choices is just that you don't get a real choice to slow burn the romance. The book instantly tells you attraction is there and strong arms you into the romance at specific moments when in other books with multiple romances you get more opportunities to have things progress at a normal pace.
It's clear they were written specifically for an audience that wants as much smut in their stories as humanly possibly and honestly I just never really enjoy playing through them. If they allowed for the tension to build over the course of the books, allowed us to have a MC who isn't instantly smitten with their RO from chapter 1, I think they'd be fun books.
I don't mind books where you have to end up with a specific person. One of my favorite interactive fictions I replay is one where the love interest is set and you mainly control how your MC romances them. I just wish choices allowed for a more natural progression and wrote their solo love interest books like they do their ones with multiple leads for once.
#also the fact that the only two werewolf romances are in this style#im so upset#give us a werewolf book in the bloodbound/nightbound universe#play choices#ramblijgs

Alright this is how I would've done the royal romance/royal heir series because I'm bugged now.
Trr trilogy ends then before royal heir we get an in-between book, something similar in style to how they handled love hacks where all the remaining romance options can be set up with love interests. And we get the chance to play as them during said romance scenes so they have some agency in their lives.
Hana and Madeline
Liam and Olivia
Drake and Kiara
And maybe someone for Maxwell but Maxwell was also the only romance who I don't believe pursue's MC without you initiating it yourself so I could see him just being content as a bachelor for life.
The book fully centers around MC helping her friends find their true loves as a way of giving back to them for helping her with her own.
When the royal heir book takes place if Liam and Olivia were set up we then follow MC and the rest of the group as they try to make things run smoothly for the eventual birth and life of the crown heir. We can still have MC with a kid and make it that she and Olivia bond together over it. But in general this helps explain why MC and everyone would be so involved in helping with a kid.
I need to play trh to see how things pan out full but since I'm aware MC's kid is heir no matter what apparently, it just feels like it was done to explain MC sticking around and everyone adoring her.
Let the characters grow outside of her please.

Okay so, I only recently jumped back into play choices after a few years. I played back around when mtfl season 1 ended. I had been aware there would be more to come and I remember not enjoying the game so I just didn't keep up with it.
When I tell you I was flabbergasted to see that not only does mtfl have 90+ chapters, but also that rather than break it into seperate books with each season being a new title they decided to CRAM IT IN 1. Play choices what were these decisions 😭.

So I haven't gotten to it yet, but I'm aware the royal heir sets up the MC's kid to be the next queen even if you don't romance Liam. And it really feels like it makes no sense to me especially if you romance someone like Drake who has 0 interest in noble politics and in my opinion would fully be against his kids being in line for the throne.
Maybe if the plotline had to do with MC being a surrogate for Liam's kid since he had no interest in marrying but still was angling to have a successor to put the public at ease then it would make more sense. Especially if you're romancing Hana where having a child would have to be something intentional.
But even then there's politics involved with a child coming from a duchess who could potientially have a stronger sway over political affairs if she were the mother of the new heir but not directly joined with the royal family.
I'd say this could be fixed by trr book 3 letting us set up Liam with someone (Olivia to name one) and then have trh take place a few years down the line.
#drake already is clearly out of his comfort zone by marrying a duchess#that man would not be cool with his kids being royalty#the royal romance#play choices trr

Only just getting around to playing the royal romance series, all of the romance options are cute and im having fun. That said, even though I'm not doing his route this playthrough, MC and Maxwell romance gives me jessica/Roger rabbit vibes.
He's endearingly dumb and excited.
#play choices#the royal romance#choices trr#i imagine Mc to be the same height/barely shorter than Drake and the prince who i imagine as tall#statuesque stunner if you will#im doing the drake route but i adore hana#i feel bad for constantly rejecting the prince and hana on social quests but im not wealthy

Okay but the funniest thing about MC being in a polycule at the end of Book 1 would be Kade's reaction. Like he already reacts to one love interest. Imagine getting sucked into a dark world and being tortured for months only to discover your sibling is now dating 4 hot people on top of becoming the hero of the realm.
#choices bolas#play choices#ramblings#blade of light and shadow#i also personally believe there wouldve been hints of Tyril courting nia#imtura and mal as friends with benefits#and the beginnings of imtura/nia#thank you for coming to my ted talk

I'm reading various stories for diamonds to unlock choices in games, and I only just got around to playing the love hacks games. I honestly gotta say you can tell just how much the writing has changed between 2016 and 2020-current with slice of life books.
Love hacks feels like it actually cares about the characters it's telling stories about, all of the romance options are endearing and the friend group being given screen time outside of our MC means that we get to see their lives playout in a way that feels more natural than the typical choices story where only the MC can give people happy endings.
I love that we get to see the friends find relationships outside of each other and even get spotlights on how some of them met for the player to run through. There are also moments where I fully expected a diamond scene to pop up only for it to play out fine.
I also kind of like the more painter like look to the faces than what we have for recent books. They have personality to them.
In general it's a cute duology that was clearly made out of love and outside of just getting diamonds I genuinely wanted to see where the story went. Would recommend.

Adding some examples from later chapters because these read as anything but strictly platonic to me.
Me explaining to the devs why the core 4 companions from the Blades of light and shadow games should actually be in a massive polycule with mc

Finally getting back into playing choices games mainly for Blade Book 2 (had no idea it came out and I'm happy). But I'm farming diamonds by rushing through the nanny affair series, and I just gotta say this has to be the most unlikable group of main characters so far if not the entire choices canon.
Like yes everyone who criticizes the MC and Sam for their relationship is valid, no it doesn't matter if Sofia was also cheating, Sam went after MC from day 1 so we can't act like they're morally superior.
And in book 2 when Sam went "I want to hire a new nanny" I immediately said "why so you can sleep with them to?" Like rip to MC but I'd never be able to trust a significant other who I got with through an affair. I wouldn't do that to begin with but the fact is there isn't anything about Sam's character that makes me think they're a good person or a fit parent for that matter. They consistently make innuendos and advances at MC in front of their sons, actively aimed for the nanny of their children, and from what I remember will often put the MC above their own kids which is insane.
If you could make unlikable choices in the game and get different endings then we could at least see Sam being a good parent by drawing a line of what is acceptable for their kids, and even have it be that MCs romance with them is based on their treatment of the twins, but we don't so instead I get to watch the most irresponsible couple in the world think they have some life changing romance.
#ramblings#play choices#the one good thing is i never feel remotely like spending diamonds#i played mother of the year and at least that game got me invested in the characrers#mother of the year made me want to win that court case against the ex#im trying to unlock almost every diamond choice in blades so i need to farm#i hear the ex wife shows up and sues for custody and the mc gets to choose if she stays in the kids lives#no give that woman her children
