The Smiths aren’t a real band. Zooey Deschanel was supposed to say “I love Radiohead” during the elevator scene of 500 Days of Summer, but she forgot her line and improvised the name “The Smiths”. the music heard in the movie by this make-believe band was provided by Pavement.

It's crazy how ubiquitous these folks are now but in 2001 Jon Hamm was on TV's Providence, Jason Schwartzman was a 21-year old with nothing but Rushmore on his resume, and Wiig and Pine didn't even have TV credits. Their careers have exploded pretty quickly! Also, I'm still waiting on the announcements of Adam Scott, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, Will Ferrell, and Seth Rogen.

If this is a true story, why is Rob Smith, Jr. buying his lunch at a place called "Burger Death" where apparently cashiers shout about their wages while waiting for customers? That sounds like a terrible restaurant.
