the old chateau is honestly gaudy as hell bc of the people who designed it and the time period, but dawn thinks it goes hard so she's trying so hard to preserve everything the best she can. the ghosts like it too so why change anything u_u

Dawn has been thoroughly taught and trained extensively in the aspect of honorific speech, known as keigo in Sinnoh, Hoenn, Johto, and Kanto. Her proficiency in the three types of keigo are at the level of an expert, due to how rigorous her schooling was for use of this speaking style, along with the fact that Dawn uses all types of keigo extremely frequently due to her role.
Sonkeigo (respectful language) is used when Dawn addresses superiors, such as the League administration, elders, deities, diplomatic guests, or others in professional settings she means to show great respect to when speaking.
Kenjōgo (humble language) is used when addressing herself in a situation with superiors/higher-ups, addressing herself in public statements such as in interviews or when addressing the public, or if she's being hosted in another region for a summit/meeting/gathering.
Teineigo (polite language) is used in general professional settings among her own colleagues such as the Gym Leaders and Elites. Although Dawn is hierarchically superior being Champion, she still respects them as equals. With other Champions, as well, if given permission (depending on the situation, such as if she's being hosted/is hosting someone) she will err in utilizing teineigo.
It has taken years of extensive classes and training to put all of this into practice, as keigo is extremely extensive. Each style of keigo have their own grammatical rules and special vocabulary that differ vastly from casual ways of speaking. In a way, this method of speech is an art form in of itself in the professional world, being especially important in Sinnoh (and the three mainland regions, as well). It was one of the most important things Dawn was taught when being mentored to fully take over the Champion role, as showing full respect when speaking in these diplomatic and political situations is paramount.
It was the biggest pain for Dawn, being someone who wasn't proficient in normal schooling at all (beyond the hands-on classes with battling as the focus, and history as well (thank you great-granny Akari for the Hisuian ancestry buff!!). Sitting for hours upon hours in language classes, even with Sinnohan (Hokkaido dialect Japanese) being her first language was a grating pain. However, it was still an important part of taking her role as Champion seriously. Like with the diplomatic and political aspects, this was another nuanced aspect outside of battling that Dawn dedicated herself fully to. Pain in the ass as it was, taking her tutelage as anything but one-hundred percent serious was not an option for her, and Dawn dedicated herself just as wholly to this as she would anything else. Her goal was always to be Champion, not just as the region's protector—its shining beacon of strength and light—but as a strong and respected diplomatic force as well for Sinnoh and its people.

also ngl the main reasons for me that dawn hasnt done mega evo bc 1. why does gf leave gen 4 underwater when they dish out all the cool new megas and forms, like im BEGGING for a single crumb please god (none of dawn's pokemon both in her normal and ghost teams have a mega form so far). kanto and unova fans eating constantly and as a sinnoh fan im sitting with my pathetic empty plate begging and pleading... 2. i am the most painful person alive bc i like saving things like this for big thread/plot ic development points bc i am a doer for that kind of thing rather than just being like btw this happened now. bc i just cant!!! i need to write things out, ppl who can just be like oh this is a thing now.... i envy you.... but i cant :') whether its a plot point i do w another muse or someone else or a series of drabbles at the very least if all else but thats abt the limit for what im personally comfortable w
and dawn also just thinks its fun to win without gimmicks (though she doesnt mind other people using them, like go nuts) because it makes her and her team feel accomplished. but gamefreak if you guys hit a sinnoh mon with the mega beam then my life is yours

❓+ "Do you think I've been doing a good job so far as Sinnoh's Champion?"
The suddenness of the question gives Cynthia pause—she looks up from the documents she had been previously been reading, all of her attention now focused solely upon her protégé.  Eyebrows knitted together, Cynthia turns her gaze towards Dawn and really, truly looks at her.
It’d been a long time since she first met Dawn, a quiet young girl, wise beyond her years.  Her reticence had startled Cynthia at the time—she had always known the children around her to be loud and boisterous, wide-eyed and innocent, not having yet been beaten down by the cruelties of reality... but Dawn was different.  She silently took it upon herself to look after her during her journey as best as she could.  In many ways, her best had not been enough—someone more forgiving would have called it impossible to fully shield any young trainer, and Cynthia was barely into her twenties herself at the time, but she still can’t help but lament the things that Dawn had been forced to see and contend with.  Far too much for a child.
And yet, for all her failures as Dawn’s mentor, there that young girl stood before Cynthia now.  Now a beautiful, capable, strong young woman.  She had dealt with even more as Sinnoh’s Champion, handling it all with a remarkable aptitude and sense of grace.  Sometimes, Cynthia couldn’t help but wonder if Dawn really still needed her by her side to guide her anymore.  The thought was a melancholic one, but one that made her proud in equal measure.
Tumblr media
But looking at her now, she can see more clearly the slightest of cracks in this image of herself Dawn has built up.  Beautiful, capable, strong, yes—but still painfully human.  Still just as prone to those sinking feelings of unsureness and inadequacy, the same that Cynthia had known all-too well during her time as Champion.
She smiles, gentle and familiar, standing up and walking over to meet her.  Placing a grounding hand on her shoulder, Cynthia says the truth:   “ Yes. Of course I do.  You’ve done nothing but the best you can, and your best?  I couldn’t ask for better. ”
the 'yes or no' game. accepting, for @dawnedon!

a proper hc ill need to put together tomorrow, but for now. dawn is proficient in all types of keigo (japanese/sinnohan dialect honorific speech, basically the politest polite way of speaking possible). which includes sonkeigo (respectful language) for elders/superiors/guests in professional or diplomatic situations. kenjōgo (humble language) when addressing herself in a situation with any superiors, or if she's being hosted as a guest in another region for diplomatic/political reasons. and then there's teineigo (polite language) for use in general talk with her equals/colleagues. she uses this the most often with her own league when talking with them in professional settings like meetings and that kind of thing.
the classes for this sucked!!! by the way! her least favorite part of the learning process by far. japanese is her first language but ohhhh she hated having to sit in class, but this way of speaking is so involved, and dawn had to be dedicated... anyone who hears her speak like this, vs when she's speaking casually and not at work would think she's an entirely different person

the fact that for the first several years of battles dawn had as champion where she was just. needlessly cold and dismantled people's entire team and strategies within a moment of observing her foe's battle styles was made worse with emperor having his big ol scar. she didn't always lead with him and liked to mix things up, but when she did its like 'AHHH GET YOUR PENGUIN' he dont bite-
though not many were able to reach the summit that was sinnoh's elite four, much less the champion, she was probably like this for any televised exhibition battles even with no real stakes against sinnoh's elite four/other trainers. she was just. so SO SICK!!! of people!!! putting her down and the rumors that people go easy on her etc etc etc. just going entirely fully ruthless even in matches that were just for fun all to prove a point, fighting as if her life and her team's lives depended on victory, tapping into that sheer desperation she felt when the fate of the universe was in her hands. anyone who battled dawn during this turbulent period in her life were met with the most thorough, cold dismantling and thrashing ever experienced in a battle with her thus far.
being undefeated for over a decade is a huge part of her identity that she's crafted for herself so that no one could ever say anymore that people went easy on her or let her win as the years continued on without her suffering a loss... and to her shock it actually worked, as the years passed, the rumors about all of that (with cynthia always denying any claims on her part) did lessen, so surely she was doing something right... up until may finally puts a stop to her streak and topples dawn and her team, can sinnoh's champion finally feel like she can breathe again. it really is the end of an era, but dawn can finally let go of the ungodly amount of pressure she placed upon herself and the mental/emotional burden that came with holding that perfection for so long.

Taking a super-effective hit from a primordial deity far beyond his strength and years, and living to tell the tale, is a great source of pride for Emperor. He wears his gnarly battle scar with honor.

my favorite lore about dawn is that she spent hours sitting in the veilstone game corner to rack up 10k coins in one sitting for the ice beam tm to teach to emperor. fast forward to the dw, when she was fighting giratina she had him use that move on gira's scarring (dawn didn't know the scarring was from arceus' ice judgement though, she just saw icy blue scars and was like well. if i learned anything from video games that's gotta be the big boss weak point right (oh dawn honey.)) since she honestly. really had no idea what the fuck else to do and didn't want to subject any of her team but emperor to this fight. it didnt help that dawn was able to feel this sudden icy chill that knocked the wind out of her bc of the pain that was inflicted on gira is also felt by her in an abstract way, not like she's directly being hurt but like. She Knows yknow!! and the feeling of that already unfathomably deep anger growing deeper ABSOLUTELY did not help!!! at all!!!! and it's all because of that funny little single ice move that dawn got blasted to death with an aura sphere and emperor was severely injured by it. the hours of sitting and playing the slot machine to rack up her coins for that silly little tm was the biggest catalyst for her death besides the events of spear pillar and galactic's plan :)
