         manny drains the last of his beer, too cheap and too thirsty to turn his nose up at the dregs.   “ doc, huh?? like the smurf?? ”   he had pretty limited access to television as a child, and this is the end result      really shitty smurf jokes. fuck you, nbc. 

         he crushes the can with a smirk and rakes his fingers through his hair. if anything, it stands up a little taller. defiant.  “ you like my hair? i call this look the ‘i’m using my comb as a bathroom door lock.’ ”  the rv has seen better days, but it’s nothing a little diy home repair can’t fix.   

            his eyebrow arches when doc orders them drinks.   “ damn, we just met, and you’re already well on your way to becoming my new best friend.  gotta ask, though     this a pleasure drink, or a business drink?? ”

          yet another reference he simply doesn’t understand. smurf. sounded weird. groucho and smurf. 

          “more like... the gunslinger.” he explains with a shrug. he’s not sure what business he could have with this wild haired young man, so he answered accordingly, despite the implication that came with it. 

          “well, pleasure, i suppose. if we must decide between the two. what brings you to our fair little town, ah-- i’m sorry. you have me at a disadvantage. you now my name but i do not know yours.”

        manny looks up at the man on the other side of the bar, beer stalled halfway to his lips.  “ y’know, i used to think cold beer and voodoo chips were the best things in the world,  but i think your mustache might’ve just bumped them off the top spot. s’that stache come with a name, or should i just call you groucho?? ”

          doc has gotten a great many comments on his signature facial hair since emerging from the well. this one, is by far the strangest. he doesn’t understand the reference being made, but of course, that doesn’t mean he can’t muster a response,

          “why thank you, stranger,” he thinks, “i think you’ll find the name associated with this mustache is john henry. most just call me doc. that’s quite a head of hair you got. did you get caught in an electical storm? or is that on purpose.”

          he taps the bartop and orders them a round with a playful smirk and a wink.
