there was only a handful of people in the world that he could talk to about anything &. colt was surely one of those. it had been a while since he had sat down with the other, despite the differences that they shared growing up, they were close , even if derek didn’t agree with colt’s choices one - hundred precent of the time. a roll of his eyes ❛  how’s everything been ? ❜ he inquired as he looked at his cousin.  his hand wrapped around the beer bottle, while he lets chocolate hues scan the other’s features. ❛  anything new ? ❜

it wasn’t a shocker that he was here, he practically lived at the clinic. though 90 percent of the time was spent in the baby delivery nursery, seeing the babies gave him some type of serotonin. chocolate hues scan the various babies who were sound asleep &. there was something about children that always kept him at bay. he doesn’t even feel the presence next to him, a small jolt as he sees the other  ❛ you know, a heads up would be nice. ❜ he added as he looked at the other who was next to him ❛ what brings you here ?  ❜ he asked

Selin had a day off to do all of her errands given that she was on call for the follow three days and the likelihood of being called in was high. She’d run to her lawyers office, had lunch with a few friends and picked up a prescription. Now she was headed for a coffee break before doing her least favorite errands of all; groceries. It was the level of decisions she had to make that drove her insane. 

Her attention hyper focused on something. It wasn’t the person’s outfit or face that first caught her attention but the glint of an item on the ground which had made her eyes trail after them. “Excuse me.” The nurse tried to call out after them, rushing over to the object that was on the ground and then turning back to them. She didn’t know if it had fallen off of them but they were the closest person so she was guessing at this point. 

“This was on the ground, does it belong to you?” The item was in her hand, outstretched towards them. 

today was one of those days that he was simply all over the place, he had meetings after meetings. not getting a single break, he just needed to get out of meetings with a bunch suits ( even if he was one of them ) talking about needing new additions to the hospital &. making more money off of it. the reason that he had initiated the clinic was simply because a lot of high risk surgeries were way too over priced &. if he could help out as much as he could, he would. 

making his way down the hallway as he slips out of the elevator, his mind is elsewhere but he hears her voice, it’s soft. he turns to look at the brunette holding a stack of papers he had been handed earlier that day. turning around he accepts the paper from her and gives her a small nod. ❛ thank you, yes, sorry i wasn’t looking . ❜ he adds on with a small smile as chocolate hues scan his features ❛ you saved me from explaining to the medical board why i have missing payments. ❜ he explains as he gathers himself once more. ❛ but thank you, i am in your dept.❜

OUTSIDE OF HALAL GROCERY & CAFE, SUFFIX MILLS — After having only been returned to Heartsdale, her hometown and place she was born, for a few days now, Yasemin was beginning to feel the rashness of her decision to come home.

Homeless. Jobless. Directionless.

There was only so long she could crash on her sister’s couches. As loving and welcoming and caring as they were, Yas knew how cramping it could feel to have an extended house guest. Especially with Nesrin having Selvi and needing every inch of her small space. Then, affording a new place would serve to be tricky in a couple of months time when her savings ran down and she was without a job to not only pay for it but also the utilities and important things like food. But — what did she do for work? Yasemin had spent her entire life dancing, she had no other skillsets that she saw on each job listing.

It all felt so… overwhelming.

The mild panic began to set in and wet her eyes. At least in Paris she’d had a job and a place to live. Why hadn’t she prepared more?

“What have I don— gotten myself into?”

it wasn’t strange that derek would be out making his way to get some things for the house, marylynn always did the grocery shopping, even when he told her that he could do it himself &. today was a perfect explanation of that . oceanic hues scan the various options and as he fills up his basket and pays making his way out the door until he hears some mumbling. his figure turns slightly to see a very familiar face, a small smile spreads on his features as he looks at her.

Derek Devereaux comes from a long line of kings &. Queens, his great-great grandfather made it big in just the outskirts of New Orleans before it was even called New Orleans. The name devereaux surely held it’s own weight but home was anything but perfect, his father was a king in his own way &. was exactly like his grandfather, always had to have the last word. His mother on the other hand was a middle class woman, someone who worked everyday of her life and never took anything for granted. At the start that was something that his father enjoyed about his mother but as years passed it seemed a treat that he ignored about her. His father instilled in him that money was what made the world go round, while his mother did his best to to drive him through the most humble ways ; her ways. derek ended up taking more after his father, the luxuries of what life had to offer him seemed to be endless &. way more fun than being thankful for people who were not on his level. 

things change , fast and out of nowhere. derek loved where he came from, even though his parents thought two different ways, raising him correctly and respectfully was always something that they agreed on as well with his siblings. derek had never truly met anyone who moved him, there was always girls here and there but nothing serious, no one until her. the one who would leave him completely broken, a complete disaster. he fell hard for her and like all fairytales, they just come to an end. things didn’t rule in his favor, due to choices his father thought was best, he lost the girl and the future child that he would have wanted. after losing what he loved the most , he coded himself off to anyone , even his parents and siblings. he simply wasn’t the same, he was meaner and colder, related a lot to his grandfather who he despised when he was much younger. 

life is cruel , isn’t it ? Not to people like him though, he got anything and everything that he wanted, no questions asked. as he grew older, he started making investments for himself. none that had no type of connections to his grandfathers or father money, his own source. putting his money in ideas he just knew would sky rocket was a gift that he had and worked all too well. yet visits with his grandfather became more and more frequent and his grandfathers life and mottos instilled in his brain ; love is weakness &. he would live by that til the day that he died.
