i think gen 3 ponies are born with cutie marks that imply an idea of the talent they're predestined to have, and name themselves in correspondence to this talent. it's a low-pressure tradition though, no one is necessarily obligated to dedicate themselves to their talent or pick a thematic name. toola roola is an artist but my headcanon is that she's called that because she's just really passionate about european cultural history.

Ok I only really did this so I could have a reference later. But here are all the the Official royalty from each generation of My Little Pony that I could find. To qualify they had to have been called a queen, princess, king or prince on a toy, in the cartoons, comics or games. Second is they are directly related or are married to someone meeting condition one. I may have missed some or some maybe on here as a technicality.
Gen 1
Gen 2
Gen 3 (because names are not on images) Wisteria and Star Catcher
Gen 4 will be a fallow up post cause it has a lot, and tumblr has limits.
Gen 5 queen Haven, princess Zipp storm and Pipp petals.
#g3 rarity and the rest of the rainbow princesses count by namesake#and if we really want to be all inclusive then all of g3 ponyville is made up of princesses
