Wow, all of this.... I didnt even have a room till I was around 14, and it didn't have a door for a year or so after that, never really understood secrecy or privacy until well into high school. A bit more of my social issues make sense now, I never really thought some of what I experienced would be considered abuse.

So my dad took away my laptop because I wouldn’t give him the password. I wasn’t even allowed to type it in, he demanded to know the password to my personal computer because he thinks I’m “ doing things I’m not supposed to do. ” My sister is not, and never has been, held to the same standard when it came to passwords on her own phone etc. But my parents always suspect me of being “up to something” and will randomly ask to use my computer/ know the password, and when I say no, they get mad at me. In the past, they have taken away my devices and looked through them, which cased me a lot of anxiety and is part of the reason I don’t like it when people use my computer or go through the camera roll on my phone. Even as I type this, I’m being asked what I’m doing. If you think parents demanding to know the passwords to their child’s personal devices is a breach of privacy please reblog

Saw this on FB, it irked me to the point of thorough statistical analysis. Enjoy: Let’s examine this overly simplistic model using real world data.

First, let’s make some basic assumptions.

Tom is a person making minimum wage, currently $7.25 per hour. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Tom probably works about 30 hours a week. That would put Tom at an annual gross salary of $11,310. After federal taxes, he takes home about $10,349 per year. Also according to the BLS, Tom probably works in the service industry (65% chance) versus the farming (0.5%), agriculture (0.6%), or transportation (7%) industries, where the milk is produced and distributed.

Milk is about $2.71 a gallon, and the average American consumes about 20.4 gallons of milk a year, meaning Tom’s annual milk budget is approx. $55.28, or 0.5% of his annual take home.

Now let’s assume Tom gets an incidental raise via minimum wage increase, along with his friends involved in producing and shipping milk- from $7.25 an hour to $15.

Tom now makes $23,400 gross per year. After federal taxes, he now takes home about $20,116.

As for the cost of milk?

Well, Tom’s job had nothing to do with it- however, minimum wage was raised across the board. With the minimum wage farming, agriculture and transportation jobs accounting for about 3.1% of the overall jobs in those industries, and with the minimum wage increase representing a 206% increase in labor costs associated with those jobs, (and also ignoring all non-labor costs involved, which would further lower the impact) this would roughly increase the cost of a gallon of milk to about $2.88 per gallon.

Tom’s annual milk budget has increased to $58.72, or 0.2% of his annual take home.

Considering those were mix tapes gifted by his mother, and his father IS alien, more likely that the tapes themselves could be alien tech, after all we have terabyte cassette tapes right now.

though honestly my biggest question every time i watch this is how has his cassette tape not worn out after 20+ years

bc a lotta you kids might not know this, but VHS tapes and cassette tapes, if you played them enough times, used to get worn out over time which would show mainly in sound distortion. no way he’d be able to get that clear of a sound out of it after 20+ years of even semi-regular usage.
