The irony of this new breed of self-righteous AI hunters on AO3 is that they're all just copy and pasting peoples fics into AI detectors, which are all operated by AI and therefore THEY are feeding people's work into the algorithm without their consent and in some cases no doubt circumventing the locks people put on to avoid getting scraped...

Don't copy and paste anyone's AO3 work into third party websites, you're not the good guys in this situation?

If I was in a fanfiction and started coughing up flowers while working at a flower shop (because this is a flower shop au) I would NOT connect my crush on the tattoo artist next door to the flower cough situation. I would freak the fuck out and think the pollen at work was doing some Last of Us shit to me, quit my job and move FAR away. inadvertently my flame for the tattoo artist would fade with distance, solving my hanahaki situation and proving my 'the flowers were trying to turn me into a plant zombie' theory

It's a standard behavior of psychological abusers, often taking the form of "I can't believe you'd accuse me of abuse. Don't you know how much you've hurt me by doing that? You are the real abuser!"

In this latest fandom wank, the perpetrator tried to spin everything as others racistly attacking her when, in fact, she was being racist to them.

Among other reasons this should have raised red flags is that she was so in your face about her identity and oppressions. Many people in fandom are cagey about their exact demographic if it isn't a common one, especially if they have little power to protect themselves offline. It certainly can be true that someone's the target of a major attack because of their identity, but when they accuse multiple fans who seem to be of a similarly underprivileged demographic and when their own backstory seems a little too dramatic, it's time to entertain the possibility that they're trying to reverse the real situation.

And, indeed, we're now seeing fans come forward to complain about her behavior who were hesitant to out their own exact demographic because they didn't have as much power and safety offline. We're seeing fans who were less glib in their rebuttals because they aren't native English speakers and didn't have time and money to spend on fancy school and learning a bunch of languages. This is a typical victim profile for this type of "Perhaps it is you who is the racist" fandom person.

One main issue i have with CERTAIN proship people/proship spaces, is...they're not as "anti harassment" they claim to be, AND they're way too quick to slip the anti label on someone.

No, that regular normie non fandom person who doesn't want to watch GOT because of the incest isn't an anti. No, that idiot on Twitter (who is probably a rage baiter) who thinks that horror/tragedy shouldn't be written because it ends with sorrow and no comfort isn't an anti. No, that person who made a one-off comment about RPF shipping being invasive and creepy isn't an anti. No, that person who reblogged something punching up on published Twilight/Reylo/Dramione fic isn't an anti. I mean, those people COULD be antis, but those STATEMENTS aren't anti rhetoric. But I've seen proshippers describe all of those things as "anti rhetoric." And then in some cases they continue to dogpile and harass and make fun of these people, which I'm REALLY not into! Tbh, I'm normally in the camp of "if you see a bad take online you should just make fun of it in your private GC" but even then, if it gets to the point where the private GC in question will seemingly ONLY exist to make fun of such takes, I'm like...aren't you tired?

I don't even think actual, meatspace-world censorship is anti rhetoric. Book banning and shutting down of libraries isn't something that you can really blame "Proshit DNI!!" on, yet some people seem to think there's an actual cause and effect phenomenon of such things.

Obviously, self-described proshippers who act Like That are a pretty vocal minority, but unfortunately they're the minority that I often seem to run into (which? I am willing to admit that maybe I'm somehow doing something wrong here by continuing to find these groups?) and it's turned me off from the label/movement. I still 100% believe in the quote-unquote "actual" meaning of proship, of course, but it does upset me that a very small group of particularly...uh...passionate? people have soured many parts of it for me.
